By the front door of my Target there is a bin of old animation titles for $1 each. In the bin I found two volumes of Fleischer Superman episodes (eight episodes a disc). These cartoons provided inspiration to the creators of B:TAS. The transfers are not the best, but they aren't bad. For the price it is well worth it, and are fun to watch.

There are several other distributors with high quality transfers at average prices.
Bosco, Winstar, and Delta have great packages. The Delta release from last year is a two DVD set of all 17 cartoons. They have carefully separated the Fleischer SUPERMAN cartoons from those produced by Famous Studios. This is usually a detail that is confused by many others who have released these cartoons in the past, not properly identifying the two producers.
Moved to Boomerang forum.

Of those, the Bosko package (IMO) appears to be the best executed in both picture and sound. A very minor quibble there would be the appearance of the original release date at the start of every short, which could be read as a scholarly touch as well as Bosko's way of establishing its own copyright on the project itself.
And this set too presents all of the Fleischer and Famous shorts in their proper chronological order.
But then I get to a not-so-minor quibble. There's a tiny but oh-so-PC soundtrack edit in the very first of the Fleischers, which has presented itself on Nick at Nite, CN, and Boomerang a bunch of times over the years. And I know the cut had to have been made for cable TV, because I've seen/heard at least one untouched 35mm print on the art/revival house/museum circuit that betrays it. Listen closely after Lois Lane leaves the Chief's office, and Clark turns to ask, "Don't you think that's a dangerous assignment <<snip>>?"
Aw, you guessed already.
(The last three words on that 35mm version: "...for a woman?")
And so the Historical Revisionism Society marches on into the DVD age. They even took a yard off Superman's hide.
Heavy sigh ...

Anyone been to a Dollar Store lately? Aside from Superman, I've seen "Betty Boop," "Van Buren Collection," "Popeye," and a few more classics on DVD. I picked up a bunch.
I also have eyed a cheap Superman cartoon DVD, I know it's one of these - but I'm fuzzy on how many there are. Can someone show me the covers of the multiple DVDs please? I'll then try and match the one I saw.
