Close Encounters of the Third Kind just arrived on DVD this week after a LONG wait among fans for any classic Spielberg movie on DVD. It got me wondering when some other great classics will ever arrive on DVD. These are titles that, no matter when they come out, I would find a way to buy them. Give up eating, sell my clothes, whatever it took, I would get them on DVD. There are only a few but here they are:
Star Wars, the original Trilogy. I don't know how Lucas will handle these releases, but personally I think the original Star Wars movies deserves to be a three disc set. Disc one will be the the original version, with all the bonus features included on that disc for that version. Disc two will be a movie only disc, but with two versions of the movie: the special edition that was released to the theaters back before Phantom Menace came out and the ultimate finished special edition Lucas has been working on which will put back in deleted scenes that have been on the cutting room floor since 1976. And the third disc would be nothing but supplimental material, and I couldn't even begin to guess what they would put on there, since there is so much to choose from. But three discs would only begin to do this movie justice. Empire and ROTJ would be well off with two disc editions for each movie. Of course, that's what I WANT to see. What they will do I have no idea.
Indian Jones trilogy. I mean, haven't we waited LONG ENOUGH. I heard a rumor around the time I got my DVD player in 1999 that this would be out in May 2001 (and I even had found a site that had the cover art and even the menus for the DVD) but here it is, May 2001 and still no Indy.
Back to the Future trilogy. Another one that has been promised so many times in the past but keeps on getting put off.
What ones do you want to see out on DVD more than any other movie?
ok, time to go and watch Close Encounters on DVD!!!
