The plot revolved around the adventures of the Pink Panther's pink (and very talkative) children. The eldest son wore a red sweater, the younger was still in diapers. They also had a bunch of multi-colored panther friends, with their opponents being this punk panther gang. If I remember, dear ol' dad shared relatively little screentime with his sons or their gang, though PP sometimes figured in the plot (getting framed for a crime, with the kids trying to prove his innocence, etc.). I think it was because PP's pantomime act didn't fit well with the sons' adventures, which required talking. The PP did get to have his own short in the show, done in the style of the old Freleng-DePatie films.

I vaguely remember this series. It originally aired on NBC and it was dominated mainly by the kids. As for the sons themselves, the older one was Pinky and his baby brother was named Panky. Pinky's friends were a multicolored group. Among those I remember best were Rocko, the yellow kid who was the tough guy of the gang and Chatta, the purple-furred blabbermouth. I can't remember much else since it hasn't aired since the late 80's. If we're lucky, Boomerang could fit this series into the schedule along with the original Pink Panther series. I also heard they did another PP series in the 90's where he did speak. If I heard correctly, he was voiced by Matt Frewer, but unfortunately I never even remotely saw that series, which is surprising even for me. But then again, I missed the last 2 seasons of Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels, so I guess I'm not really that sharp.

Despite the series being produced by Hanna-Barbera, the show is with MGM (Which is in the process of being purchased by Sony and a group of other investors) along with the original theatrical and later series. So don't expect it to be showing up on Boomerang in the US.

If the series ever came on DVD, I'm buying it. I used to watch it right before Muppet Babies.
I always wanted a plushie Panky.
The tough panther in the rival gangs name was Finko.

Ah ha, MVM are reallising a Pink Panther DVD box set called 'The Pink Panther: Cartoon Collection' it has all of the pink panther cartoons but I thought that didn't inculde 'The Pink Panther and Sons'. I hope it does.

I'd bet on it just being the theatricals.

That show was drivel, and it mightas well have been an ANTI+Panther or a NON Pink show since his very different, "cute" kids were in the show with NO humor, and NO Henry Mancini music except in the few times when the Panmther showed ujp.Say what you want about the later Max Headroom/Matt Frewer version but HE appeared in those and many other regulars did as wlel and the classic theme was used.

Pink Panther and Sons sounds terrible, no doubt.
So, why not make "The Aardvark and Sons", "Roland and Sons", "The Inspector and Sons", "The Blue Racer and Sons"*, or maybe "Hoot Kloot and Sons"?
*-actually, in BR short "Hiss and Hers", he has a nagging wife and a son, so I guess, it's already done, but I don't think they ever appeared again, IIRC. I haven't actually seen the short yet, although I did get it recently, but it's in PAL VHS format, so I'll have to wait, to convert it to NTSC.

so true.
Tacking "and sons" onto any classic cartoon character just to fill a "fresh" TV half-hour shows a definite need for help, and probably always will.

As a nine year old it entertained ME. I LOVED the Pink Panther growing up, he was my favorite cartoon character and Pink Panther and Sons was just the coolest thing to me. A NEW Pink Panther cartoon! Sweet. Sure, it was terrible but so was pretty much everything else in the eighties. If you grow up with something you love it no matter how bad it is. (Transformers excepted.)

I was watching the end of a movie on TV which ended short, and they padded out the end by showing a bunch of Pink Panther cartoons(dunno why, it only happened once...and it happened within the last 2 years as well). One of the cartoons was a "Pink Panther and Sons" episode, and running side-by-side with the Freleng stuff, it looked just terrible. There wasn't an original moment in the entire cartoon...they found a genie and some guy stole it, then they got it back...then they wished for "The Golden Touch" and everybody knows how that goes. Even Clouseau would be smart enough to turn that show off.

How about "The Dogfather And Sons"? And "The Tijuana Toads And Sons?" Or maybe "Crazylegs Crane And Sons"? :D

Well, Crazylegs Crane already has a son in his own series that aired in 1978, so it won't count.
Speaking of the 1978 "Crazylegs Crane", ever wonder who Crane Jr.'s mother was?
Well, in a 1973 Blue Racer theatrical "Aches and Snakes" (Which Crazylegs appear in BTW) the bumbling Crane has a wife. I have that short and if I can take a picture from it, I'll post it.
