Tonight at 8 p.m. ET time tonight is the second episode of fourth season of Smallville. Last week was Crusade (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=122385).

Lois & Clark do their first investigating as a team! Here is the official preview from TheWB.com (http://www.thewb.com).

Smallville #4-2 "Gone"
Clark (Tom Welling) and Lois Lane (Erica Durance) investigate Chloe's (Allison Mack) apparent murder, but are stopped by an army officer, General Sam Lane (guest star Michael Ironside), who turns out to be Lois' father. Lois suspects that Sam knows more about Chloe's death than he will admit, and Clark discovers that Sam has recently been in contact with Lex (Michael Rosembaum). Jason (Jensen Ackles) arrives from Paris and convinces Lana (Kristin Kreuk) to continue their relationship. Suspecting that Chloe is still alive, Lionel (John Glover) sends an assassin with the power to morph his limbs into metallic weapons to keep Chloe from testifying against him.

John Schneider and Annette O'Toole also star. James Marshall directed the episode written by Brian Peterson & Kelly Souders.

This is actually the very first episode of smallville I've ever seen that that's because of the hype about Loius Lane. And it's great!I guess I'll be tuning in a lot from now on...:)

Does anyone know of a website that has a detailed plot synopsis of each episode of season 3? I don't mean a brief description, but everything that happened in each episode. Or at least a page that reveals that key stuff relating to the overall arc. Having not watched last season, I've got a whole bunch of questions after watching "Gone" and last week's episode (like why Clark and Lex are on bad terms now).

Bangin' episode. Didn't really care for the fact that there was another freak o' the week, but everything else was awesome.

-Welcome back to Smallville, Lana.
-Lois was smokin' hot in every scene. I'm definitely diggin' her.
-Didn't expect to see Papa Lane drop by, but cool nonetheless.
-Freak o' the week had some nice special effect. Too bad the character was throughoutly disposable.
-What the hell was the deal with that in-mate stabbing Lionel in the shower? He came, he stabbed, he left. Were we supposed to know him from somewhere?
-Interesting way of explaining how Chloe survived.
-Chloe and Clark's reunion put a smile on my face. Welcome back, Chloe.
-...and goodbye, Lionel. You were great, and you shall be missed.
-Can't wait to see Clark meet Lana's new toy. It'll be nothing but tension from now on.
-With Chloe and Lana back, I was afraid that Lois's role in the show was over, and that she would pack up and head back to wherever with Papa Lane. Nice to see that she'll stick around for at least one more episode.

Some good moments, mostly with Lionel. But the direction, acting, and writing in general in this episode was poor. I wish I could say it looks like it could get better but I saw the preview for next week.

Lois was great in episode 1, good to see she kept it up this week.

Move over Lana, Lois has arrived. And in a far more interesting fashion than you ever had. This show has just gotten way better with the addition of Lois, and I didnt like the idea when I first heard it. Take that back now

WOW

For the first time, I felt like I was watching a movie! This was an expertly-written episode, casting doubt on Chloe ever coming back until she finally actually appears by using every "contract not renewed" stunt in the book, e.g. cutting her out of the title sequence. They also knew people would just accept freaks showing up out of nowhere now, so they had the morphing guy shock you by just suddenly showing up set to kill. Lois has easily become the best character on the show. The T-1000 ripoff guy was not the focus, breaking this show out of the formula by using the FOTW to help the main plot, not lazily have it as the ONLY plot.
This is the X-Men Evolution of prime time....it started out pretty bad but each season has gotten better and better. If they keep up this quality I might actually have to buy a DVD set!

As for that promo for next episode, which no one has mentioned yet...WTH?? o_O Messed up.

What was the purpose of having Lionel Luthor getting stabbed or something? He gets stabbed, he recovers, and nothing really develops from there.

The guard disappears and some guy comes out of nowhere to stab him, I guess just to show the harshness of jail? Or maybe something deeper
I also thought it could be Lex sending him a message, that he can also hurt Lionel. Not just Lionel hurting Lex

I am so confused with this episode. So Chloe is not dead, and Lana is back from Paris with her boyfriend. I have hard time believing Clark and Lana are falling apart. Can somebody explain why Lex wants to kill Chloe? As well as give me the review of the episode. ;)

Can somebody explain why Lex wants to kill Chloe? As well as give me the review of the episode. ;)Clark and Lana are just awkward around eachother. Keep in mind Lana was in Paris for four months, and Clark was AWOL. Lana's going to Paris telegraphed to Clark that there was nothing in Smallville (including him) worth staying for.

As for Chloe; it was Lionel Luthor who wanted her dead. Chloe, who had worked with Lionel in the past, had proof that Lionel had in fact, killed his own parents (Lex's grandparents) and was willing to testify against Lionel to that effect.

Lionel planted the bomb, and thought he was successful in killing Chloe, however Lex secretely thwarted Lionel's plan, and then hid Chloe until the trial, never disproving the story that Chloe had died. Lex had the help of Chloes uncle (Lois' dad) in his ruse.

That was a good episode, I like the Lois character, and Lionel and Lex conflict get's better all the time, this keeps the show with more suspense, who stabbed Lionel, what was the reason, hopefully we will find out and I liked the explanation Lex gave to Clark about the explosion, Lana back no no no, oh well. Chole back, guess that'll be cool.

This was a nice little episode, and I thought the way they "brought Chloe back from the dead" this season was well thought out and executed. Also,

And I don't think I would mind the beloved "Clark and Lana stare at each other while trendy music plays" scene as much if Lois is there from now on to drop in a snarky comment or two.

I was really impressed with the action in this episode. Those scenes were directed pretty well as always. The fight choreography with Clark and the Ops agents was nicely handled, especially Clark's smacking and tossing of his opponents.

I really, really like Erica Durrance as Lois, she just does a great job. She reminds me of Margot Kidder in the Donner films, and has a nice amount of spunkiness about her. She had me a little worried in the beginning of the premiere, but she's really won me over by now. I like her interplay with Clark for the most part; I thought she bounced off Clark and his folks together the best.

I'd like to call the fight in the refinery an homage to T2, but it wasn't. An homage isn't a direct rip-off of what it's trying to emulate. It was an arbitrary choice in location: "they had the liquid metal assassin, so why not just pick the refinery as the back drop for Clark's rescue of Chloe; it works". It's not a big deal, but melting him in the molten metal was just too lazy.

This was a nice episode and I guess it's nice to have Chloe back. Though, next week has me worried: I don't want to believe it, but I think the preview actually coined the name "Krypt/Tuck"...:(

Not just Lionel hurting LexWell, while Lionel enters GenPop in his orange jumpsuit they show a horde of other prisoners surrounding and following him, so I'm of the impression that perhaps he wasn't very well-liked by the other inmates.

In my state a guy's been convicted of killing two girls (and he definately did it; they found the girls buried in his backyard). He escaped the death penalty by confessing and now has life. They put a former prison inmate on the news however, who said that he'll soon wish he was dead, because new, high-profile murderers are always the biggest targets around the prison yard. Inmates gain status and respect by abusing and roughing up the "star criminal." I'm thinking Lionel's stab just had something to do with prison culture...but then again few things on this show happen for no reason.

I have to say this season has started out pretty well IMO, a lot better than I hoped, and having Lois around hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be, although even though how much I like her being around, I can't wait for her to be gone from Smallville so things can progress and all that.

I liked this episode, I thought the freak with the morphing metal abilities was a bit strange. I also thought about the T-1000 when I saw him, it just seemed way too random for him to be involved. I did like how they went about bring Chloe back, that Lex's people found that Lionel was trying to eliminate her, so they made it look like he succeeded only with the plans to bring her back in time for the trial. Sweet tactic. Also I like the whole Lois and Clark detective time, looking around together, getting in each others way, makes me think of the similarities to them when they're older. Also I enjoyed Clark getting somewhat flustered when he was naming reasons why he didn't like Lois to Lana.. "The Great ones always start out that way".

"Gone" gets an A.

I hate Lois...

Though, next week has me worried: I don't want to believe it, but I think the preview actually coined the name "Krypt/Tuck"...:(Welcome to the world of WB ads... These dumb ads have plagued Charmed for years now. That show isn't nearly as bad as the promos make it seem. I guess it was just a matter of time before Smallville got the same treatment. Prepare yourself for week after week of horrible puns. After two years of "nicknaming" episodes of Charmed with these unfunny puns, WB is now forcing the producers to name the episodes things like "The Bare Witch Project." Expect the same from Smallville over the next few years as WB forces it into the same downward spiral they forced Charmed into beginning with the death of Cole.

Does Lois and Chloe know that Clark has superpowers?

How come Lionel didn't want to kill Martha Kent, she also worked for him a little bit in the past?

Who stabbed Lionel?

Good episode. I'm shocked that no-one's brought up that there were THREE DCAU actors in the episode--Micheal Rosenbaum (Flash), John Glover (Riddler) and finally Micheal Ironside (Darkseid!!!) Can you picture a guy with the last name of Ironside being turned down for the part of Darkseid? Sweeeet!

Lois is really cute but she was cussing way too much (I like my DC heroes vanilla!)

Lionel is stabbed while opera plays in the shower. I've said it before, but I'll say it again: John Glover is BUFF! I have a hard time believing he won't last very long in prison. (I'm naive. So sue me.)

I LOVED the fact that when Lana came back it was to pretty much put the kibosh on her and Clark's "relationship". (Wesley and Lilah: THAT was a relationship.) The whole thing seemed to me to be about moving the story forward. Heck, I'll even tolerate Lana and her annoying new boyfriend for that.

Yay! Chloe's back! Hopefully Allison Mack will be creditted the next time she appears.

Last season of Smallville really sucked but like this one started off with two very strong episodes. Let's hope they can actually keep up the momentum this year. ****.

The Clark/Lois relationship carried this episode. Welling's facial expressions in particular were dead on.
Still...why have Chloe alive? Doesn't that render Lois' being there pointless?
Why have Gen. Lane at all? How is a top notch general the only one qualified to extract witnesses from a tunnel?
Who was the guy who turned into metal? How did he and Lionel even meet?
Why have someone stabbing Lionel? It served no purpose whatsoever.

And next week...I'm not diggin' what I see there.

I missed it. My brother tried to explain what happened but totally confused me. So what happened between Lana, Lois, and Clark?
