It's been just over a year now since it begun showing at Electronic Boutiques across the country. To me these are the absolute worst informercals I've ever seen since the videos they show at Target, Walmart, or a clothing store at the mall.
There have been some good things that came out of this:
-Listing release dates to games that are far ahead.
-Detailed commercials or promos for games/movies/anime.
-Behind the scenes interviews with different games.
-The only people to actually cover the full aspects for PoP: The Sands of Time.
However most of it is negetive air time. Most of the repeated patterns I notice are:
-Hosts the lack the real background knowledge of gaming history (no supprise there) There was one host who kept mispronouncing names for characters in FFX, Ninja Gaiden, and Maximo: Army of Zin. Yeesh!
-There is more favoritism with MS than Sony or Nintendo. They both get equal treatment. Not that I'm a console wars fanatic, I just hate favoritism.
-Teens screaming about Halo, Splinter Cell, Halo, GTA, Halo, Madden....did I mention Halo? I think Splinter Cell is a great series too, but there is way too much discussion going on about this game from Teens. We have to practly hear how the game works every new interview. The same goes for GTA, Madden, and most importnally, Halo.
The best example about people screaming over Halo had to be the X-Box Live party at the Playboy Mansion.
Now think about this for a second. You've been invited to the Playboy Mansion. There are beautiful women up to your ears surrounding you. Yet the only thing on your mind the entire time is calling out your friends across the room to play Halo. This interview between two friends I swear went on for 10 minutes talking about how they were Godlike at Halo and trash talked the other that they were inferior. Noting about the playmates, the mansion, or the overall idea of perverted comment never crossed their lips. Even outside the interview none of that was shown or asked amoung guests. WTF.
-Behind the scenes looks at different games mostly interviewed with people that have no part in the development of the games. Just the people the have to translate or even produce the game for the states.
One of the people working at Capcom US (the name slips me) was talking about Devil May Cry 3 at E3. Now this same guy stated in a previous press release about how DMC2 was better than the first. In the interview, he denyed that and said the game was a mistake. Then toward the end screaming at a host that Devil May Cry 3 was going to be the best game ever. The manner he approaced him gave off a shady feeling that he would break into his house and kill him in his sleep if he said otherwise.
-Awful interviews with celeberties that I couldn't care less about. Interviews that go something like this:
Host - "What's your favotire video game?"
Celeberity - "The game were you can throw rocks at children."
Celeberity - "I'm going to have to get a little old school and say Pac Man is my favorite."
Host - "And by old school you mean like 5 years ago?"
Celeberity - "Yes."
Host -"Would you like to be in a game?"
Celeberity- "I think I was in fact."
Host - "Then lets get together and star in our own"
-Behind the scenes access to big budgeted movies that 1/2 of the time drain your mind and don't give out any real info. Thank you for the heads up Paul Anderson. No really! I'm fully aware about Resident Evil and how you're botching up this new one.
-Music Videos we've seen 1,000,000x on MTV. And don't forget the concert dates, that remain on screen for 2 minutes flat, because you don't wanna miss KISS and Nelly at your local stadium.
-Quiz questions or facts are are just horribly put together and some are innaccurate. They said Doom was the first Horror Survival Game.
-Amature Snowboarding videos with composed background music that does not fit anything or even make you feel excited. This is the worst of the worst right here. Everytime I hear them start it up, I ask one of the employes to shut the TV off.
Does anyone have any comments or stupid things they witnessed watching this in the store?
