The Panther demons look interesting. Looks like a common enemy for Inuyasha and Sesshi. I wonder if a team up is in the works.

New episode.

So far, nothing really that great. I'm hoping they REALLY start battling now.

Inuyasha's lighter side is really beginning to come out. I liked it better when he was meaner.

EDIT: Ok, episode just ended.

Bah, we were just about to see him use the Red Tetsusaiga for the first time. Is it me or do these episodes end too soon?:(

That was a good episode. Funny too. Inu-Yasha playing with Kagome's cat reminded me of a cousin I knew that would do that to our cat. The panther demon clan was cool. Koga's starting to get on my nerves. I'm done rambling now.

I liked Inuyasha taunting Kagome's cat :D
Wow..more colorful hairstyles than I'm used to seeing on this show O_O
Yay! Koga's back! I like Koga :)
I also like Sessomeru and Rin, haven't seen them in forever. Happy to have them back.

The plotline seemed a little bland though, and I usually like the filler on this show (like those two random priestess girls and the ep where Inuyasha's flea friend --so sorry its too late at night for me to remember his name  is running away from that flea woman who wants to marry him, and the Shippo vs that Thunder Girl ep)
Maybe cuz the filler people are doing action instead of comedy this time?

Well, its only the first episode in the arc anyway, I'll give the mini-filler-arc a chance. :)

Good episode.I loved the cat taunting and we get to see more of seshomaru/rin/jaken/Sojo(kagoms bro).I like how this episode involves more of Inu and Seshomaru and Im glad to see koga back in the hunt. The next episode should be good.also we get to hear more of inuyasha and Seshomaru's dad!

I'm surprised nobody thought of Thundercats with this episode

That She-Panter Demon looks like Wiley-Kit/Kat's clone

not to mention the big guy threw a giant thunderball

Um, ow? Kagome was complaining about Inuyasha tormenting her cat, so she... face-plants him right on top of it?

Karan didn't "nya". I am somewhat disappointed by this. ^_^* If Karan (the fire cat) was the only villain... I could tolerate them, because she's kinda cute. But nooo, then big boss Touran (ice cat) had to come on the scene with her ugly blue punkster hair. And then Shuuran and Shunran are the other two, but I can never remember which is which, since their names are too similar. -_-

Dang, it was while since I had seen this one. I didn't even remember Inuyasha using the red Tetsusaiga , think it's been over a year infact.

The episode was ok, I thought it was funny when Inuyasha teased the cat and got scratched for it. I like the next episode better than this, it has more fighting; that's assuming my memory didn't fail me again .

This episode got off to a really dull start, but progressed slowly and then ended abruptly. I wish we could have gotten to see more of the red Tet. Well, on to the next episode.

I don't know why everyone was complaining about how bad this filler arc was last week. It seems pretty good so far. We get Koga's gang, Seshoumaru's gang, and the raccoon thing, what more could you want? But, why the hell didn't Miroku just send all the cat demons into his wind tunnel?

We get Koga's gang, Seshoumaru's gang, and the raccoon thing, what more could you want? But, why the hell didn't Miroku just send all the cat demons into his wind tunnel?Because that's the reason I personally don't like this arc. I mean, sure, I'm glad that practically the entire recurring cast aside from Kikyou gets some screentime, but... if it's at the cost of messing with characterization and continuity, then maybe the price is a little too high. This episode actually isn't as convoluted as the other two in that respect. I also wish that since they went out of their way to have four villains that they would give them four different personalities instead of dividing one personality amongst the four of them.

I guess the thing that pisses me off the most about this arc is the characterization of Sesshoumaru, which will really start to fall apart in the next two episodes.
I mean, first they make Sesshoumaru have this uncharacteristic emotional outburst about how Inuyasha has NO PLACE in this fight, this is SESSHOUMARU'S fight, blah blah blah... I could forgive that... IF THEY STUCK WITH IT. Because in the third episode, Sesshoumaru gets into prime position to finish off the bad guy himself... but wait! Sesshoumaru's not the hero! Inuyasha is! He's not allowed to kill the bad guy! What should the writers do to fix this? I know! Let's make Sesshoumaru randomly GIVE UP AND WALK AWAY and tell Inuyasha that he can kill the monster that Sesshoumaru was so adamant about killing himself up until two seconds ago! IT MAKES PERFECT SENSE!!!1

Also, unless they decided to randomly re-use Sesshoumaru's character design for his dad, they also can't seem to agree on who was actually present at the first battle...

My thoughts exactly. The answer: The episode would have pretty much ended there. One second they would all be sucked in, the next would be the credits. And people complain now about how short the episodes are getting.

Demonic Raven
09-26-2004, 01:15 PM
Yeah you could also argue why Inuyasha didn't just use his Wind Scar or even the Backlash Wave if he had the chance to muster it up. I find these things to just kill things off too easily and cheapens the battle.

This week's episode wasn't too bad. I really liked the Panther Demon Tribe. I thought it was cool how it was "canine's" against "cats". That was pretty cool. Again, I must say, Inuyasha gotten way to....... happiesh. I really liked the cranky one from the first season better, but I guess it's the character devolopment thing. Having Sesshi back again was nice. He's definately the best villain in the series.

Overall: A-

Next week's episode looked sweet!

What is the word "Devas" in the title supposed to signify? I'm hoping it was one of the character names; the alternative is embarrassing.

Yeah, I was hoping that too, but it signifies the 4 strongest/best panthers of the tribe.

They're not "Divas," they're "devas," kinda like in Digimon Tamers/Season 3.

Oh. So they were either going for an obscure and only torturously applicable Hindu/Buddhist reference, or they just can't spell.

One was a dude, so...I am still unsure.

It's "Devas", in reference to Hinduism/Buddhism.

The original title of this episode was "Hyouneko Shitennou no Inbou". "Hyouneko" = panther-cat, and "inbou" = plot, so the word in question here is "Shitennou", which breaks down into the characters "four", "heaven", and "king", but the word itself does translate as "The Four Devas".

I'm not all that familiar with the "Devas" thing, but the four cats in the episode have names and powers representing the four seasons (Shunran = spring/flowers, Karan = summer/fire, Shuuran = autumn/lightning, Touran = winter/ice).

For some reason, I was a little taken aback by Touran referring to Inuyasha's dad as "the old mutt". Seems like they're throwing that insult around randomly now without even taking into account what it means. Sure, it works quite well for Inuyasha, but for Inu-papa...? Is there something about him that I didn't know...? (boy, would Sesshoumaru ever eat his own words if it turned out to be true. XD).

Inu Yasha gets a bit worried so he vists Kagome in the present/modern world. There he spends a whee too much time with Buyo and Kagome's Mom treats him to some stake. (http://home.hawaii.rr.com/wizardgrey/images/Inu%20Yasha/1016.jpg) :) Once both return to the past, they are given a warm "welcome back" and are informed about the Panther Demons searching for Kagome and the jewel shards. It isn't very long till the cats show up and easily defeat Inu Yasha and crew, making off with Kagome. So the gang charges off and quickly meet up with Koga and his pack. But when they find themselves at a dead end of a ravine, Inu Yasha brings fourth the Red Tetsusaiga and that's where the episode ends...

I thought this episode was fun to watch. It is nice to see Rin and Jaken enjoying each other's company for once. Jaken looked so happy and proud of himself when he caugh that fish. It appears that Koga and Inu Yasha will be teaming up and might encounter Sesshoumaru along the way, neat. Also I am surprised they brought back that guardian of the forest (or whatever his name was, that spat out wolves) and I was freaking out a bit watching that Racoon guy say more than one line during this episode.

I agree that Miroku should have used his Wind Tunnel, he had a pretty clear shot at the pack of cats. As for Inu Yasha, it would have ended the fight way too quick if he pulled out his sword. Although, watching that Fire Pather do her magic was pretty neat.

Screen shots located here. (http://home.hawaii.rr.com/wizardgrey/Inu%20Yasha.htm) Including 4 pans. One of Miroku, Sango, and that Racoon guy. Another of the group giving Inu Yasha and Kagome a warm welcome back. Kagome's grandfater reading the newspaper while Inu Yasha has Buyo in his lap. LOL, Inu Yasha showing Kagome's family his fine table manners.

Not too shabby... This spite with the Panther Devas looks climactic as Sesshomaru, Inu Yasha, and Koga all get wrapped up into a dangerous competition for the sake of personal strongholds! Kagome is kidnapped (yet again) and the fight of four elements should prove to be of interest as this new arc delves into the storyline. It’s intriguing that it has little to do Naraku this time, but I think it’s for the better. Inu Yasha continues to be caring and perhaps that will prove to be an important role in upcoming battles.

I give Plot of the Panther Devas an A.

(PS - Is it just me or does Shuuran (the red-headed cat girl) look a little like Ed from Cowboy Bebop? Maybe, just a thought...)

2. If Sesshy had the Tetsusaiga, that ice panthera would be dead. Plans scuttled, end of story arc. :p

With Inu and Sesshomaru being dog demons, a battle with cat demons sometime in the series was inevitable. So here we are. Should be an interesting dogs v. cat fight. Poor Kagome, first kidnapped by wolves, now by cats. What next?

It does seem like the episodes fly by lately. We hit the middle commericial and, seemingly moments later, the episode is done. (^_*)

This was a great episode.:) The Panther Devas looks like a hard opponents for Inuyasha and the others yet again have to deal with and beat. I was sort of suprised that the big panther deva was voiced with a woman voice. Even more that he wasn't girl panther. Anyway, I laughed when Koga found out that Kagome was kidnapped and Inuyasha looked at him like he wasn't lying. You know that big panther did sort of remained of Sailor Jupiter's Oak Evolution attack except he didn't spin around in cicles. Anyway, I liked this episode. 5 out of 5!:D

This was a really funny ep, and I liked Inu in modern times, especially when he was eating dinner with Kagome's family! The only thing was that it seemed like the same old routine, Kagome gets kidnapped, and then Inu has to save her. Why does she almost always have to be the damsel in distress? Other than that, this was a good filler

The only part of this episode I enjoyed was InuYasha taunting Kagome's cat. (Buyo, right?) Other than that I just couldn't get over the "Miroku and Sango do nothing" problem that this show has been having, so powerful but they never fight.

... i would have made Inu sit too! I love my cats, & sadly, have 1 named Buyo:sweat: but then again, i pick on my cats too! hehehe. Stop calling those Panther demons 'cats'! remember, they don't like it! j/k Inu was OK in that filler w/Bonza(sp?) but now he's going over the edge (ppl r gonna have to start rewriting fanfics!;) ) Koga is getting on my nerves too, & Miroku!(Wow, it's only guys that r getting stupid in this show, what's up w/that?) Miroku can't use his wind tunnel 'cause of those stupid bugs, & now when he FINALLY gets the chance to use it, he doesn't! What is wrong with these people?!!! Let's see anything else? oh yeah,
Sounds pretty stupid 'bout how Sesshomaru is gonna argue for HIS fight, & suddenly turn the tables & say it's not.... & what's wrong w/other ppl being heros damnit!
love Rin & Jaken spending time together, seeing the past of the past(if u get what mean:D ), & wondering what that forest dude meant when he said 'chance to serve again'?
Overall a B+

I actually enjoyed this episode. These panther demons seem like an interesting bunch, especially if they have some sort of vendetta against the Inuyasha/Sesshi bloodline. I think a teaming up would be an interesting sight to see if it came to that. Also good ol' Koga makes an appearance, complaining that Inuyasha gave them Kagome practically, when he just got caught off guard.

Also, Miroku's raccoon buddy made another appearance, it's like the creators just remembered about the guy recently and was like, "oh crap" lets put him back in the show. I'm glad, he definitely adds as much to the show as Shippo IMO. And these Inuyasha episodes really seem to end way too quick, we're about to see him unleash the red tetsusaiga and then it goes to credits. What a tease, I love how Koga is all like "whoa, what's happening to his sword".

"Plot of the Panther Devas" gets a B.

Eh, I treat these episodes the same way I treat fanfiction. They can be well-done, and are a nice treat for people who just want to see their favorite characters in action... but they really shouldn't be used when arguing the motives behind characters' actions (same goes for the movies, which are also more or less animated fanfiction).

One of the purposes of these episodes is to attempt to give Sesshoumaru a concrete event that caused him to hate Inuyasha, which is stupid. I mean, if the father I idolized shacked up with the social class equivalent of a prostitute (yes, I know Izayoi was nobility, but to a demon, even a queen ant is still an ant), had a bastard child with her, and demanded that said child be given equal respect as me.... you'd bet your butt I'd be pissed off! There doesn't need to be any deeper "reason" behind it!

There doesn't need to be any deeper "reason" behind it! When I started watching Inuyasha and it was clear Sesshoumaru hated his brother, I just accepted it as he hated him because he was a half-demon. I don't feel there needs to be some deeper meaning to it other than that, either. Even though this filler arc is inconsistent and tries to give Sesshoumaru a "deeper reason" for hating his brother, it's not all that bad.
