The publisher says it will support all three platforms next time around.

According to Bloomberg Japan, Capcom will support all next-generation consoles, including the Nintendo Revolution, Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox Next.

The company’s board executive, Kazuhiro Abe, also shed light on when the next-generation wave of hardware will hit, saying, “We will be supplying games for the next-generation video game consoles that should be released around the end of 2005 by Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo.”

Capcom is best known on GameCube for bringing the Resident Evil franchise, which first premiered on the Sony PlayStation in 1996, exclusively to the GameCube this generation. Additionally, it has released a variety of other titles on Nintendo’s current-generation console, including Viewitful Joe and P.N. 03. The publisher’s most anticipated releases include E3’s Best of Show, Resident Evil 4 and the sequel to Viewtiful Joe, Viewtiful Joe 2.

However, on the matter of Capcom franchises, the company talked about its Resident Evil series, saying the franchise has seen disappointing sales this generation, specifically for Resident Evil: Outbreak, which released on PlayStation 2 this year, exclusively. The franchise was the only one it mentioned in regards of supporting all three next-generation consoles.

More on Capcom, as well as the next-generation consoles, as it happens.

That's good, Capcom favored the PS2 too much (and they probably still will). Hopefully this means their big name titles will be on both GCN and Xbox. I'm sure there's some Xbox fanboys pining for some Mega Man action (if nothing else).

Nintendo Revolution? Interesting tentative name there... Remind me of... RAVE-O-LUTION!!! (the single worst attack name... ever)

Nintedo Revolution?!? Why doesn't Nintendo pick a freakin pattern and stick with it?!? The next console should be called a game pyramid, or a game cylinder, or a game sphere. How does Revolution follow a Cube? It doesn't make any sense!

Multiplatforming seems to be a safer bet than throwing all your cards in with one system (see Gamecube)

Because they're not like some companies and just put numbers behind the name of their next consoles.

Nintendo wants each console to stick out from the previous one. They don't want it to be known as a "continuation". (Which is why we don't have a Gameboy DS)

Besides, how does Gamecube follow "Nintendo 64"?

And how does "Nintendo 64" follow "Super Nintendo"

Lastly, would you feel better if the Gamecube were renamed "Nintendo Entertainment System 5"?

Ultra follows Super not to mention Super Nintendo Entertainment System's precursor was The Nintendo Entertainment System

Besides how many Gameboy incarnations were there, Gameboy, Gameboy Pocket, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, Gameboy Advance SP

the sequelisation of the Nintendo consoles would have brought with them familiarity to the name, if the name is too different it may make some cunsumors be a bit wary...

So nintendo has done it in the past, just not with this current batch of system...

There's nothing wrong with sequelisation, having a well known name put on somthing sort assures that it has been imbued with success of it's precursors...

nothing wrong with that

Yeah, I know. Go find an old Cruis'n USA arcade machine and watch the intro. But it's "Ultra 64", not "Ultra Nintendo", so it's technically not a sequel to the Super Nintendo, so then it'd be "Ultra Nintendo".

Besides how many Gameboy incarnations were there, Gameboy, Gameboy Pocket, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, Gameboy Advance SP

Until the Advance showed up, the Gameboy was exactly the same hardware in smaller and smaller cases. And then the Advance could play the old games. This is different. The Gameboy will always play Gameboy games. The Nintendo 64 doesn't play Super Nintendo games, etc.

So having the word "Nintendo", your company's name, isn't enough brand recognition?

So you're basically telling me that if the Gamecube was known as the "Nintendo Entertainment System 5" it would be selling better than the Playstation 2 right now?

So you're basically telling me that if the Gamecube was known as the "Nintendo Entertainment System 5" it would be selling better than the Playstation 2 right now?Well when the GC was first announced there was alot of speculation(and jokes because there was a Sesame Street toy called a "Game Cube"), but then again Shakespear said, A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet. So whatever name they pick it's really just a minor point in the end even though the name may or may not be that astheticly pleasing. I mean Coke had failure with New Coke because it tasted bad, even though they just added an adjective before Coke. So it's all just a psycological safeguard...

Also Gameboy Color was technologicly different than the GBP, they had games that were only ment to be played on GBC....the GBC SMB1 for example could not be played on a regular GB and also GBC Link's Awakening had a secret dungeon that could only be acessed if you played it on a GBC...

Also the DS will play all GB games if I remember correctly

who cares what the next consoles names are. They're going to be refered to as acronyms in the end, so what's it matter?

Oh, and good for Capcom. RE4 should be good, and more Megaman goodness. And Street Fighter.

Wait. Isn't Capcom already multi/dual platforms already? So is this just confirming the obvious?

Exactly that's what pisses me off so much. They should have named the Nintendo 64 Ultra Nintendo or even Ultra 64 as they originally planned. Then they could have named the Gamecube Mega Nintendo or Ultimate Nintendo or Eternal Nintendo or Giga Nintendo.

Anyway, would Spider Man 2 have sold as many tickets if it was called "Peter Parker versus Dr. Octopus"? Probably not. And no, the name Nintendo is not enough brand recognition, due to the fact that most people don't even say the name Nintendo when they're talking about the Gamecube. They just say Gamecube. I mean, wasn't the virtual boy techincally called the Nintendo Virtual Boy? I don't think anybody puts the name Nintendo in front of it. No one says Nintendo Game Boy Advance either, luckily they have the Gameboy brand to sell it.

Not really. Most the games they make are on the ps2 while the GC gets 5 or 3 a year and the xbox get 2 or less.
