I'm actually considering buying Dance Dance Revolution mainly for exercise. But, there's more than one version and I'm not sure which one I should get. There's two games for PS2 right? DDR Max and DDR Max 2, is that correct? Which one is better?
Also, which mat should I get? Since I want to get a lot of exercise I don't want to take time out of a workout to adjust the mat, and I've heard that with some of them the mat can come loose and you have to adjust it.

Ok...
Their are actually 3 DDR games for the PSOne which are compatible with PS2. Though for most people their kind of hard to find unless you search online.
1. Dance Dance Revolution-The first DDR game to hit US shores. Fairly good but the graphics are a bit outdated and the colors are blinding to the eyes.
2. DDR: Konamix- From my views, it seems like many players don't like this version. New songs with a few returning ones. Same graphics, same eyesore colors.
3. DDR: Disney Mix- Honestly I have yet to play this one, but I would love to try it.
The ones from PS2 are entitled MAXX, MAXX2, and the recently released EXTREME. Now, you have to understand that although DDR has been growing in popularity, Konami still wants to make big bucks. How does it do it? By putting recognizable American songs on their games. This is good but, its kind of a blow to fans when you take out many of the original japanese songs that are located in most DDR machines in various arcades.
Anyway, each PS2 game of DDR gets more Americanized bit by bit. EXTREME even has Kids of America with the original 80's music video... So if your looking for more recognizeable songs, I would suggest EXTREME. If you want a bit more techno and japan songs, MAX. If you want something in between, try MAXX2.
Also the PS2 games have a training mode, which will actually teach you how to play the game. It worked for me as well as many others.
As for pad wise, if your just beginning a regular third party pad seen here is useable. It should be about 20 bucks at your local game store.

The only time the mat would honestly come lose if you were playing a fast moving Standard song or you were playing Heavy. This pad will last you for a while since your just starting.
When you start becoming a bit more adjusted and actually move on to playing Standard regularly you might want to try and invest in either a Hard Metal Pad which is usually about 200 dollars or...a Red Octane Ignition. I prefer these a lot. They cost about 100 bucks. If you get one make sure you get the Dual version that has a plug for PS2 and X-Box.

Um, I hope that helps. If you have any questions, don't be afraid to share. :)

Which one has "Freckles" (the Kenshin OP) as one of the songs?

Sorry.

That would be DDR 7th Arcade Mix. Yep. Unfortunately the remix to Freckles isn't on any of the home consoles....at least not in the U.S. And I love to play that song.

Well, I decided to get DDR Max 2 since from your description it sounded like the best of both worlds. Anyway, it seems like in order to burn a lot of calories on the exercise mode you have to really be good at the game, which kind of sucks, but I guess eventually I'll get better at the game.
I'm actually confused about a few things on the workout mode though. It says the measurement it uses is kcal. That can't possibly be kilacalories. What does it stand for?
Also, is there any way to make it play continuously for a set period of time without going back to the song selection screen? I mean, it's hard to get a good workout when you have to keep on stopping. I mean, could you imagine if you had to stop using a treadmill every few minutes?
So, in order to lose weight, about how much time should I do workout mode per day?
Oh, and is it okay to fold up the matt when not in use? I know it came folded up, but I mean does it have to be folded a certain way or can you fold it any which way?

*sigh* Ok,
first off Workout Mode, is a waste of time. Yes, it keeps track of what your losing blahblah, but the fact is all the songs are slowed down or "littled" for Workout Mode.
Meaning, if you played just the regular arcade version, you would lose more calories....
I don't understand why Konami did this but its true....WM does tone down the songs you play.
The grading system and weight however, I'm not too sure about since I only played workout mode twice.
I consider it ok to fold it. Howver, don't leve it folded too long, since lines will eventually form on your pad causing it to tear. Just be careful. Honestly, I went through 4 dance pads before getting an Ignition. I folded the first two and they were fine. 3rd one I took a break off of DDR for a good 3 wks and when I played again, I made several tears.
But honestly, you should have no problem.:)

I'm pretty sure you can adjust the difficulty mode in workout mode by pressing up up, and down down when you're on the song select screen. What the different difficulty levels do, I'm not too sure. It does seem to speed up at the increased difficulty levels, but I'm not sure if it makes the steps more complicated as well.
Well, I plan to dance every day to make sure I burn fat so I don't have to worry about leaving it folded for too long, but damn! Four pads? How long does each one last? I would obviously consider purchasing the hundred dollar pad if I was guaranteed that Dance Dance Revolution helps burn fat, but I can't be certain as of yet. I mean, my legs certainly hurt after doing it, and my pulse increased somewhat and I got kind of sweaty, but the same evidence can result from strength training, so I really won't know for sure whether Dance Dance Revolution works for burning fat until I see results.
Of course, I'm also trying to eat less saturated fat and more fiber and protein, as well as doing an intense ab workout at least 3 times a week, so I think I started to see my stomach shrink slightly before today when I purchased Dance Dance Revolution...anyway, I'm getting off topic. So, have you seen any personal results from playing Dance Dance Revolution? How often did you play?

So, have you seen any personal results from playing Dance Dance Revolution? How often did you play?I've been playing for a little over six months, and I honestly haven't seen any physical results. My stamina has gone up like a hundredfold, but I'm about as fat as I ever was. I really don't use DDR exclusively as a weight loss solution, and I still eat the most awful garbage and drink gallons of soda, so that may be part of the problem.
