As I dig through the Jetsons boxset, I've noticed that Rosie and Astro never appear in the same episode. Is this true for all the episodes?:shake:

It's true. With the original episodes from 1962, Rosey and Astro were never on screen together. Only with the 80's episodes did they finally appear together in the same episodes.

Yeah, and they were also both featured on "Jetsons: The Movie".

Anyone know a possible reasoning behind this? It seems interesting, but pointless... maybe humor between a robot and a dog wouldn't work...

I wonder if if the animaters even noticed that Rosie and Astro weren't in the same episodes. I never noticed that until this post. The wonderful things you could learn on the message boards.

Of the original 24 episodes, Rosie appeared in two: the pilot and Episode 8, Rosey's Boyfriend. The fact that she's in the closing credit sequence handing George his pipe and slippers on his arrival home makes it easy for one to think she had more of a presence.

Episode 5 chronicled Astro's 'arrival'. Also contrary to popular belief, he was not in the remaining 19 episodes, but rather 11 of them. As I recollect (from endless Saturday AM and syndicated reruns of the 'Classic 24'), he was in:

Episode 9: Elroy's TV Show
Episode 11: A Visit from Grandpa
Episode 12: Astro's Top Secret
Episode 15: Test Pilot
Episode 16: Millionaire Astro ("TRALFAZ?? Yuck-")
Episode 17: The Little Man
Episode 18: Jane's Driving Lesson
Episode 19: G.I. Jetson
Episode 21: Private Property
Episode 23: TV or Not TV
Episode 24: Elroy's Mob

(In Episode 22, Dude Planet, there was an unnamed heretofore unseen cat:confused: , whose sole function seemed to be getting stuck in the vacuum cleaner. It was never seen after this episode.)

The above is the supposed original airdate order on ABC's 1962-63 prime time schedule according to tvtome.com.

For the record, Spacely was in 13 of the 24 episodes. Had Mel Blanc not been busy voicing Barney Rubble, Hardy Har-Har and the still-active LT/MM crew:bugs1: :daffy: :sylvester :tweety: :lepew: :marvin: :coyote: , he might've been in more. I didn't watch the 1980s revival much, but it seemed like Astro, Rosie and Spacely were in virtually all 65 episodes.

Sporadic absences by regular 'family' members was common in THE FLINTSTONES as well. Dino appeared rather infrequently during Seasons 1 and 2, but did at least one token appearance in most Season 3 thru 6 episodes- which I refer to as the 'post-childbirth' years.

Pebbles got loads of attention in Season 4, having been born late in Season 3. But for the most part she was relegated to quick feeding and bedtime scenes in Seasons 5 and 6- even the Season 5 episode Most Beautiful Baby in Bedrock concentrated more on the fathers' rivalries. Bamm-Bamm had an episode dedicated to his arrival, but beyond that did little more than a 'superhuman strength' gag per episode. A very late episode, Jealousy (notable for having Gazoo change Barney into a woman:eek:), didn't feature Dino or the kids onscreen or in the dialogue. Could be that the writers were trying to inject more 'sophisticated' content into the show in hopes that ABC would renew it for a seventh season. This didn't happen.

That wrackin'-frackin' Slate appeared rather sparingly as well, and only in episodes that really called for him.

They were also both in "The Flintstones Meet The Jetsons" movie.

Not quite true. You seem to have forgotten that the cat appeared very near the end of the original closing credits in every episode, triggering the chain of events that led to George screaming, "Jane! Stop this crazy thing! (etc.)" :D
