i don't know what's more disturbing, that u.k. security at the birmingham palace was this lax to let that protester get that close..

.. or that there aren't a lot of people in the world willing to be superheros in reality. or even dress up like them without police harrassment.

your thoughts?

Well, he's couldn't be too high up, but it would probably be a fall onto hard stone so it's probably not too safe.

I think the real tragedy here is that there was no British super hero he wanted to dress up like.

And imagen the poor cop who has to say, with an English accent mind you, that he works on the "Scotland Yard Flying Squad" I bet people start humming the Monty Python music all the time.(I think it's called "The Liberty Bell" but I'm not sure.)

That's generally sort of piteous on a number of fronts. The palace guards don't seem to be doing their jobs properly and that man is continuing the developing western tradition of making a joke of the peaceful protest by doing it in a very silly way.

Further, the Monty Python's Flying Circus theme song was Sousa's "Liberty Bell March" (my Jr. High band played it once, but I was the only who who made the Flying Circus connection).

While the protest sounds admirable, I think Batman and Robin did more to hurt things there. Heck, they almost shot the guy dressed up as Robin. It's just weird they would do something like that.

Well, there's the Captain Britains, but I don't think the effect would have been the same.

According to Silver Bullet Comics, Frank Miller was also there, but I'm pretty sure that was a joke. Too bad. Anyhow, obviously a proposterous stunt, though it might be valuable if only for exposing the ineptitude of the security. I'd much rather have an innocuous incident like this lead to heightened security, rather than something genuinely dangerous or tragic.

As a German-descended Monty Python fan who was introduced to it at a young age (seven or eight years old), it was my duty and my necessity.

It's a utility belt! I have one of those two! It's great for keeping my wallet away from pick-pocketters and whatnot. :)

I don't get why Batman needed to resort to this stunt. Surely a hero of his stature would have been granted an audience with the Queen readily enough.

The city still distrusts the Batman.
