View Full Version : Being Sick Sucks, Part Duex

Well, here I am, awake at 3 o'clock in the morning; and it's not even of my own will, for once. I've been awakened from a dead sleep twice in the past three hours because of a really sore throat that I'm currently incapable of getting rid of, and then figured, "Screw it," and decided to stay up.

So. I ask you. (Again.) What is the part of falling ill do you hate the most? Before, I said the general suckage of it. I think this time around, I'm ranking the sore throat the most annoying. Man, and I was actually sleeping during the night, too...>grumbles and sneezes< Owie. I hate being sick.

I think the most annoying part is the general malaise. When you're sick, you don't feel entirely "there". Your perception is dulled, you're not as mentally competent, you're more tired, nothing seems worth doing, and you just feel less alive in general. I think that's my least favorite part. I can deal with the other symptoms.

While my body's copious fluid production capacity (the amount of mucus and saliva that comes out of me is rather excessive), it's the soar throats that I hate.

I may abhor alcohol, but I love beverages in general and when it suddenly become a trying thing to drink some damn-ned water (and I drink a lot of water -family habit), I'm liable to get cranky.

Stuffed up noses make me miserable; it feels like a waterfall is clogged up in your face. THe other stuff I can usually deal with as long as it's not really bad.

Getting colds on 9/11 just because its a streak that happened on that unfortunate day! All of the above could be a choice?

Don't forget about thirst being multiplied by 100x!

Sore throat, by far. Not the general kind where you have a bad cough, but the kind where you have to debate whether or not drinking something is a good idea. "Well, right now, my throat is scratched raw, and I need liquids to survive...but on the other hand, drinking something will burn my throat so bad that my cries of pain will only come out as puny squeaks of air." Sore throat sucks bad.

Headaches I don't really mind because I get them all the time anyway, so I'm pretty much used to it. A stuffed nose or cough isn't really that bad either.

Geez its so hard to pick just one, I think I'd go for stuffy nose/runny nose mainly because that (along with the sore throat) is what lets you know that bad things are on the way and its horrible if you have to deal with members of the public and are constantly having to stop what you're doing to sniffle and sneeze.

The aftermath is actually pretty cruddy too as following the runny nose days comes the coughing stage where the stuff you didn't manage to sneeze away makes its presence known again.

Not nice. You have my sympathy SK, I'll send Jack around with some chicken soup and a hot water bottle :D ;)

Coughing is the hardest thing to get though. Something that's constant, annoying, and painful. Coughing takes a longer time to heal than most of the listed.

For me, it's always the general feel of being congested EVERYWHERE - especially when you feel that nasal drip in the back of your throat when you're trying to sleep. HATE IT.

Sneezing is actually a part of being sick I like - at least sneezing feels good and you know it's doing something good for ya. :)

Aside from that, I'd say fatigue.

Running/Stuffed-Up Nose, that is the worst of it, plus that is the sickness that also gets the caughting and sore throat started, and that my friends is what I see in it.

Yeh, sneezing definately feels good. It's letting out something that's holding you back.

Sore throat.I hate losing my voice and that scratcy feeling that engulfs the throat...I hate watery eyes too...I can't watch TV or look at the monitor screen!!!I like sneezing...it gives u knida a relieved feeling...coughing IS bad, specially in the classroom when everyone is silent but you keep on coughing...it is kinda embarrasing!:o

I'll vouch for "general suckage". Not being able to breathe, or eat or drink anything because it's hell on the throat, seems to be the worst for me.

*Edit* Bwah ha ha ha. Post #666.

Sorry to hear you're sick SK. Hope you feel better. :)

Worst part about being sick? I'd have to go with the general suckage of being sick. Feeling sluggish, weak, not really able to do much of what you want to get done, really sucks..

My dorm was freakin leaking during the hurricane's remnants, once it hit NC, so I have a terribly sore throat. I tried to buy some medicine from the school market with my meal card and she (the old haggy clerk) threw my card back at me and is like cash only. I'd call her something that rhymes with witch, but witch works. My throats killing me now though cuz I'm BROKE! ...well not really but im saving for a better car and I'm ridiculousy willfull when it comes to stuff like personal improvement (and a better car is personal improvement :P)..but then so is not being sick but im hoping it goes away over the course of today.

How ironic, this being up the day I really start suffering from my first cold of the school year:sad: Ugh, I've felt crappy all day. I've been tired since Friday (even though I got more sleep than I usually do) and starting sneezing yesterday. The runny nose and sneezing set in today.

That being said, I voted for the general suckage. I hate being tired all the time. That and when I have a cold I'm always thirsty and no matter how much water I drink I'm still thirsty. I have having colds in school (that's mostly what I get sick with) because half the rooms I'm in don't have tissue boxes or they're filled with hard as hell tissues. That and trying to hold in a runny nose during class until you can go get a hard tissue:( I don't usually get much more than fatigue, thirst, and runny then stuffy nose when I'm sick. Every now and then I get a sore throat and that bites.

Anyway, sorry to hear you're sick, SK. We can be sick buddies:p

For me, I've been there, and done that. for now, it is what I am sick from? Is it something like a cold, hey, not so bad, what about the unknown? if you can avoid it, don't get sick...kinda silly to say, but there are ways....I won't go into it here...Good health to all...Stuart:)

I'll say general, when you feel really "out of it," cloudy and can't really concentrate on much.

Being sick in general sucks. I've had a weird cold-thing all weekend, and today is the second day of school I've missed. Then, my mom said that if I didn't go to school, then I couldn't go to work. That makes me feel really bad because they'll be short-handed tonight.

This is fitting. I've been sick since last thursday or friday. Flu. whee.

I voted for 'general suckage' although right now the sore throat is pretty close. I don't mind being all out of it, per se, but I know when others don't understand that your'e sick, and you act wierd, it's often misudnerstood.

Hey, Gwen, how 'bout an example?

Okay, but only becauseI likeyou.

Case in point: I ran out yesterday to pick up some decongestant. Get home, get out of car. Neighbor also pulls in around the same time. He hollars over to me a compliment about how good I'm looking (I'm dieting), but I had no idea what he was talking about. Finally I understood, and wanted to say something witty in response. But, I couldn't think of a darn thing. So we just sorta looked at each other, waiting for me to say something.... I fnally came up with the very original, "Thank you, Will" and waved. brilliant.

For those of you who don't get sick often, be thankful. I am the living litmus test of "is that going around?" I catch everything that goes around. And I, being the lucky person I am, keep all colds for a good long while. :cough: ARGH!

I hate having a sore throat, but I also hate when your nose is so stuffed you can't breath at all, making it really hard to sleep. Which is really the only thing I want to do when I'm feeling that sick.
Also, when your nose is that stuffed, it forces you to breath through your mouth, which I find aggrivates a sore throat. Blah, colds. Bad.
Hope you're feeling better soon!

Ohh let's share the misery Gwen, *sniffs* I've now got a horrible stinking head cold and its *sniff* driving me nuts ... must *coughs* have hot water bottle and low budget daytime TV to dull the pain.

SK, your thread is cursed!!! :p

The reason why I'm sitting sluched on my wheel chair, typing away is because I came down with a severe cold last night.Si instead of sitting in class, here I am, nose blocked, watery eyes and headache slicing across my head...
BEING SICK SUCKS HARD!!!!!!

I voted for the general suckage since I hate all the symptoms. I had some kind of cold recently where you have a sore throat but the nose is fine, but then you're congested and the throat is fine. One thing I hate a lot is congestion. It really sucks when I can't even smell or taste anything very well without a lot help from tissues. I'm happy to say that I'm pretty much over what I had with only some occaisional remaining congestion.

I have just about all those symptoms right now, and I hate it. And Tylenol Flu is doing nothing. I want to scream.

I don't believe this. I don't friggin believe this. I'm sick. Again. Just when I thought I was over ye old cold, WHAM! I get hit with something that feels distinctly like the flu. (Very high fever, nausea, back pain out the wazoo). This sucks. So. Very. Much.

It's actually Deux.Whatever. I was sick. :p

*CONSOLES SILVERKNIGHT* But at least you weren't sick on your bday, right? :)

I'm just getting over a cold myself. The typical three-to-five day variety. The first day was dedicated entirely to having a sore throat. On day two, the sore throat magically disappeared and then I was just horribly congested. That lasted for two days, and now, on day four, I'm playing "clean up" and coughing everything out of my system. Should take another day and I'll be good to go.

That always seems the way with me. At least I have it down to a science.
