Well, into my junior year of high school I've started looking toward my future, college. I picked up the 2005 US News college book. I've been taking AP classes as well as college prep classes. Right now I'm trying to decide which version of the SAT to take as well.

Now, my question for those of you who are in college (or are in the process of college searching) is, how did you go about searching for your school? What did you do in high school and how did you narrow down your choices? Any good hints for college search?

I picked the one I could afford, since the bills are going to be in your name. The school I go to, Bellarmine, was not even on my radar but they waved the processing fee. Ringling and Savannah art schools were my choices but they didn't give me enough scholarship.

But you can make any school work to your advantage. Bellarmine was never designed for cartooning but I do get a free website that as many people as possible can visit so I use it for a web comic.

Well if you know what you want to major in, or are interested in, you should look at colleges that have good departments in those areas. Personally, my choice of college was based on finances and location. Of course, I was lucky enough that UW has a fairly good computer science department.

Your choice should mainly focus on what the college will provide, in courses and in extracircular activities, but location and the cost of it do matter too.

I've been thinking about the same about college as well. I'm a junior too, and I want to major in Vocal Performance and Music Education. I've been asking my music teachers for help.

Start out undecided(people usualy end up changing your declared major)

that's what I am currently doing

then you begin to narrow your choices down once you find a possable feild of intrest

Nearest college is a 25-minute drive away. I got a scholarship for said college good for 4 semesters....what else do you need?

I'm starting out by taking a few classes at my local community college and testing the waters there. It's good because I can live at home and work while getting college credit (depending on where I end up going). It's kinda like me taking a breather before I dive into a "real" school.

I decided to go to UMKC because of location and because they have great departments for my two initial major choices.

My advice would be to go to www.princetonreview.com (http://www.princetonreview.com) and sign up. It's a great college site and will get you started.

I'm a feshman in college, so I've just gotten started. I'm at the College of William and Mary and really loving it (except for the awful Bio test I had today, blah :p ).

My main criterias for looking for college were location, atmosphere, and academic reputation. I wanted to go to a school that wasn't too far from home, but a little ways away too, so that I at least feel like I'm making some sort of transition. So my first suggestion to you is to decide how far or close you're willing to be and start looking more closely at colleges that fit what you're looking for. Next, once you've picked out a few, start travelling to those colleges, if you can. There's no better way to get a feel for what a college is like than to go there, get a tour, and check it out for yourself. That really helped me narrow down my decision and it helped me choose a college that felt like it had the right kind of atmosphere for me.

It sound like you're really doing a good job so far. Just work hard in your classes, keep up your grades, and try to fit in some extra-curricular activities (colleges love them). Good luck!

two things

1. DO NOT settle for just any college. MAKE SURE it feels EXACTLY right, and that there is plenty to do in campus or in town. I made a serious mistake picking my first college because after i visted i ceased looking at other schools because i thoguht i would like it so much. big mistake, as life there turned out to be hell in terms of activities and student government

2. be bold. ever even thought about going to UCLA? check it out. a big SEC fan? head on down to Auburn or Georgia or Ole Miss and have a gander. Like the big 12? come on into the midwest and texas and say howdy.

dont think that just because you live in a state that youre obligated to go to school there or worse yet, to one close by. my time away from home (ive since returned to my hometown) made me love it that much more.
