I think it's very appropriate the hurricane getting all the news coverage is called "Ivan," because it truly is a terrible storm, at category 5 right now, the strongest there is. It's already pounded Grenada, and is now on course for Jamaica. It's far too early to know where it could hit the U.S. mainland, but current tracks place it in the general area of Florida. I've only been through one category 1 hurricane (Hurricane Erin in 1995), visiting on vacation, but I tell you, you need only to go through one hurricane to understand just how powerful, dangerous, and deadly these storms can be:

Four children also drowned after they were swept into the sea from a beach in Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic, nearly

"The children were in front of the sea when it seems a gigantic wave dragged them into the Caribbean Sea," said Jose Luis German, a spokesman for the National Emergency Commission. That's really sad. Poor kids. :(

Man, oh, man...such a rough year for the Caribbean and southern US. The destructive power of nature is an awesome* and terrible thing. I hope this one dissipates quickly, but it sounds like a mighty strong one with no sign of slowing. :( Best of luck to all those who have to deal with these storms.

*Awesome in the "creating awe" sense, not in the "really cool" sense.

Well guys here is the heads up from the Wonderground weather site and latest info and Track of Ivan,

http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/tracking/at200409.html

And this pretty much does not look good as the dots point will still be at a category 5, it is likly to hit Florida very hard beleve it or not, just like with Andrew back in 1992.

This may sound odd, but if Florida was to be hit by another hurricane this season it would probably be better if it was hit now rather than later (the hurricane season goes for about another month and a half). It'd likely be better to get any more damage that is going to be caused out of the way rather than rebuilding some and then having to start over again. That being said, just because Ivan hits now (assuming it does) doesn't mean there won't be another one.

It looks like every third storm seems to be headed for us. If this pattern holds true, Floridians can expect at least 5 MORE STORMS to pop by (unless they skip over the letter "X", like they normally do).

Well it could be called "Hurricane Xena" or "Hurricane Xavier."

Well After all is said and done.. You won't see Charley, Frances, or even Ivan on that list anymore.. Why you may ask? Well it's quite simple...

Whenever a Hurricane name gets to a Category 3 or greater status (Major or greater) the World Meteorological Organization (The UN Equivalent of the National Weather Service) retires these names so they won't be remembered.. after all Mitch is no longer on the list Nor Is Gilbert, Hugo, or Even Allen or Andrew. All of these Names have been retired and won't be coming back ever...

so You can bet that Charley, Frances, and Ivan won't either..

but as for the list.. why do they not have the Letters Q, U, X,Y,or Z in the list? Well there are very few real human names that could be conceived.. (Also during the most active year on Record 1993-94, I believe, the Fartest they ever got down the list was down to the letter "T" (They were concerned they would run out of letters before they ran out of hurricane Season!

but all in all a lot of the storms you would rather forget.. and Charley, Frances, and Ivan will be removed from the lists... never to return..

but now that Ivan is taking shots at Jamaica, mon, anyone wanna see where he'll end up? My money is on Florida... after all Back in July the Insurance Companies said that "Florida" was long overdue for a major strike.. guess the time to strike had to be now.. ah well there goes the neighborhood again.. and again .. and yet again...

(and to think.. we're still in a drought out here in Arizona... ah well..

Would you believe the last one hit NC like a tropical storm...man there was a TORNADO in CHARLOTTE. How retarded is that? Even up here in the mountains we had floods like crazy. Ivan they say, may even be a hurricane when it hits up here. Boy I remember Hugo...o_O

I didn't think it was that rare for hurricanes or tropical storms to hit NC, ZorBrak...am I remembering wrong?

With a hockey team name like the "Carolina Hurricanes" it doesn't seem that unusual.

Well here comes Ivan.. And there goes Jamaica.. Category 5 yet again.. And yes folks hurricanes can go back up in intensity too.. after all you take a look at any hurricane, they can do amazing things.. (Like do "Loops" and Sit still for a couple of days.. after all Hurricanes are nothing more then forces of Nature.. and I guess I love forces of Nature.. even when it rains on my parade.. Now if Arizona was that lucky.. last time we had something like this was about 7 years ago.. but it never matetialized.. ah well.

but I bet tonight the ganja is flying mon... really flying!

Once this thing passes Cuba and gets back in the Gulf of Mexico it will regain strength, like it needs to.

And each update the projected path of Ivan is pointing more and more towards the southern tip of Alabama (where I am).

Not the coast, I'm going to school in the mountains, near Tenn. and it flooded like a mother up here...it's not THAT rare, it's more that it came through florida and still was that strong when it got here.

Currently residents spanning 4 states with a share of the Gulf Coast (including Alabama, where I reside) are keeping a close eye on both Ivan and its own "eye". Don't expect anybody in this home to evacuate, it's safe with a little common sense on the side (besides, it has already survived hurricanes long enough).

For a moment, let us pray that it isn't as bad, as they are saying, and no casulties..It looks from the latest weather view, 11:15 AM central, on Wednesday, as being very very bad, and very wide spread.Let us hope for the best..STuart
