the other day, i was chatting with my friend stephen about plans for the weekend. he said he was just going to stay at school and not go home. i said "me too". anyway, it turns out he's from the same town that my grandfather's family is from. so, we did a little researching...

my great uncle bud was married to my great aunt lynette. he was 60, she was 40. my great uncle passed away about five years ago and lynette remarried two years ago. the man lynette got married to? stephen's uncle

stephen and i have been buddies for about two weeks without knowing about this little tidbit of our lives. we're second cousins by marriage

small world, eh?

anything like this happen to you?

If somthing like that ever did happen

it would probably be a re-inactment of the Vader and Luke Cloud City scene

"It's a small world after all, Hey!". :D

Nothing quite like this has happened to me. I probably have scores of unknown relatives living somewhere in Puerto Rico, though.

Researching all of this could be tricky however.

I went on a date recently with a girl I'd met randomly at the local "birthday bar". We struck up conversation and decided to go out some other time.

We did, it was nice and I asked for a lift back to my place. She mentioned how she had friends that lived on my same street. I asked, where and she pointed at the house they lived at.

"Ya don't say," I said, "cuz... that's where I live."

Turns out she dated one of my roommates like.. two years ago.

Small world.

I have learned that when visiting my grandmother in the tiny tiny town of Ringsted, Iowa (we once had a family reunion there and literally tripled the population for a day... although that has as much to do with it being a big Catholic family as how small the town is) it is a good idea to be very careful hitting on random girls on the street, because there's a good one in four chance that she'll turn out to be a cousin.
