The Landstander
07-31-2004, 10:46 PM
Previously, on Adult Swim: Futurama and Sealab have held Cowboy Bebop and Trigun hostage, and will release the virus if their demands are not met. Futurama's demand: The murder of Family Guy. The Aqua Teens, not wanting to give into any more of these insane demands, have called on The Brak Show to kidnap Futurama's daughter, Baby Blues, and use an agent to impersonate her. Much to Home Movies's dismay, the agent that most resembles Baby Blues was none other than Mission Hill. Meanwhile, Aqua Teens ex-wife Inuyasha has gone to Lupin the Third with information that could threaten their presidency.

The following takes place between July 31st and August 5th.

You know, the general consensus on this board seems to be that most comedy fans don't tune in to the anime, so how do you explain Inu-yasha's huge jump in the ratings? Are the comedy fans sticking around? My theory, all the Inu-yasha fanboys(and fangirls) didn't know that Adult Swim was on Saturday, maybe they saw the commercial for Sealab on Saturday and started tuning in and that's how they found out Inu-yasha was on. but, that would assume that Inu-yasha fans are fans of Sealab...

Either that or all the comedy fans fall asleep while watching Futurama? Oh, to hell with this, let's just admit that some comedy fans stick around for the anime.

Nin-Nin69

And always good to see Birdman get top 3. It'll be interesting to see where Stroker and Hoop rank..

Considering the rise started occuring with the comedy, I'd guess it has a lot more to do with the infusion than suddenly developing an audience due to being on for awhile.

CC does look old. Not 70's animation old, but more "early 90's" old.

I kinda get that feeling with a lot of anime, such as G-Gundam (I originally thought it was from 1990), Gundam F91 (I thought that one was an 80's movie), and Dragonball Z (For some reason, I can't wrap my head about DBZ being animated in 1993...).

The series started in 1996. And it's still airing in Japan, so, since we're sort of early in the series, the art still has that older look.

Eventually, though, the new art and animation, will take precedence. =D

Even though it looks a little older now, it's still a well written, and entertaining series. =]

Don't be enamored with the current state of animation.
These are still the dark ages of flash animation.
In ten years people are going to look back on all but the vary best and go "bluh!" the way most people look at SuperFriends now.

Comparing Case Closed to Spider-Man: TAS would be fair since they were both animated by TMS. Mind you compare it to season 1 Spider-Man: TAS...

Conan seems to have dull coloring but for some reason I think that was somewhat intentional since by 1996 they could have brighter fuller coloring if they wanted to.

Also, I highly doubt Pilot Candidate (one of the few mecha anime I actually don't like) is replacing Family Guy.

Besides, if they were going to order twelve more episodes of a mecha anime, they could have just ordered more Big O. It would be far cheaper than the CGI fest that is Pilot Candidate.

With the current name, if the old school theme is successful, they could change out one of the shows for another old school looking show without changing the name.
Of course, they really don't have anymore old looking shows. The only one that might qualify is Kikaider, and that's only because of the character designs, and not the animation. And I doubt they're gonna play it again.

And I don't see them buying any more old looking anime either. They'd buy more Lupin before doing that, and that's probably not going to happen.

As for the ATHF ad, they really need to stop doing that. Humor be damned, too many people believe that stuff. Just look at the time they did it with Birdman (of course, the main people who believed that were at TV Tome, and, well, they're TV Tome). If they really want to do that kind of ad, they should do it the same way they did, except at the very end say, "Final Episode this Sunday!" then in small print write "Followed by more new episodes each week after." It doesn't have to be like that exactly, but when you're joking you should make it so people can realize that you're joking.

Not to the sense of the name being bad, but the actual promtion with that idea in mind. Instead of showing backgrounds to Conan and playing jazz music, why not try to edit both shows together in a neat formula. For instance, show Lupin stealing and Conan cleaning up the mess. Then have a neat card with Conan chasing after Lupin that says "Cops and Robbers Block/Hour". But then again that would require someone to spend more than 10 minutes to make it up. WS won't do that for anything, but otaku favorites or their personal favorites. You mean like the Cowboy Bebop/Trigun card eyecatchers from about 6-7 months ago?

Sheesh, people were in an uproar like this when "The Last One" premiered. :P

You know, I still haven't seen this "old school" commercial. But, I really don't like the idea of calling Case Closed old school when it really isn't that old. Wasn't Cowboy Bebop made in like 1998? They should have gone with my Detective Power hour back when Case Closed aired next to Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Well, I suppose they can eventually pair Case Closed with Stroker and Hoop if they make enough episodes of that, but Stroker and Hoop sucks.

Yes it was in 1998. I actually like the commercial, and Case Closed is only eight year's old, eventually, the animation will have a newer look, once we get close to the current one's. And the older look of the show is okay by me. A lot of the stories have been great.

I hope we get to one day, see the rest of Lupin the 3rd. And is this why Mobile Suit Gundam was cancelled on Adult Swim, because the art and animation was old?

Blue Gender premired in 1999.

oh wow! it must have had a low budget then  oh well I also haven't saw the "old school anime" ad! maybe its a ghost like the "we're proud of all our programming" ad

Lupin isn't the only show in the hour though, there is also Case Closed. If Case Closed ends up being successful they can find more shows like it.
My minor quibble with the Old School promo is, it implies slightly that there won't be any more Case Closed. Linking it with Lupin III, while seemingly a good idea since it's being promoted heavily, also gives CC the taint of being associated with a dead-end show that's been in reruns...forever it seems. Not to mention it keeps getting shoved in the closet every so often.

Now, if this is part of some grand scheme to revive Lupin III and buy new eps for it, then it's brilliant. Otherwise, it's kinda pointless.

They aired the TV rating ad sometime last night during the comedy portion.

It started off as the "You are my sunshine" song, but then talked about torching someone with a flamethrower, and ended in "Please don't take my [Adult Swim] away.

I was pretty sure it was a fake LS when I saw [Adult Swim]. If it was our LS, it would have said "Home Movies."

I wouldn't be surprised. Richard Epcar said at Otakon that Pioneer was dubbing an additional 52 episodes of Lupin, so DVD sales must be pretty strong.

Woot to that. I'll keep buying as long as they keep releasing.

That would put them at 104, and from there, they've only got 51 more til they finish Lupin Series 2, so hopefully we'll get at least that far.

The Chubby Cox episode of SeaLab is on.
This is the good kind of disjoint weirdness. Also Marco is written so much better in the early episodes.

I think the mods on that board should show some professional courtesy and ask that person to change their name.
That's a clear case of spoofing.

I think that the first few episodes of Case Closed looked noticeably older than the most recent episodes.
