View Full Version : Adult Swim weekdays needs some changes...

Now I liked when AS had the even split of action and comedy but that even split has been gone since the comedy infusion. So I say keep Sunday all comedy but make weekdays 2 hours aciton once again.
11:00 - Family Guy
11:30 - Futurama
12:00 - Case Closed
12:30 - Inuyasha
01:00 - Witch Hunter Robin
01:30 - Lupin the 3rd
Actually at this point switching leaving CC at 1AM wouldn't be such a bad thing. Since Case Closed followed by Lupin would work much better than WHR followed by Lupin. CC will be in reruns soon anyway. In which case put Inuyasha at midnight followed by WHR and Case Closed... ending of course with Lupin.
I say put WHR back on to get the promised rerun out of the way so they don't have to wait till November.
Then in Fall replace WHR with Wolf's Rain and air the first part of the new batch of Inuyasha episodes on weekdays along with maybe some Case Closed premieres.
I'm not sure how long Lupin with manage it's 1:30AM slot but I hope it stays there for at least a full run. It'd be great if CN bought some more from Geneon but I certainly don't expect them to.

That looks okay, but switch out Witch Hunter Robin for something else, maybe Trigun.

We can only wish for this Hyper Sensei....why? Because ATHF has made the top 30 lists numerous times and the action shows dont. Thats the gist of it.

WHR needs one more run (at least) before Adult Swim can bid it "dead to them". Trigun has had many runs and it's still on Saturday which kinda makes Saturday a little more special.
I figure why delay that run of WHR they said they'd do in November when they could get it over with now and be done with it?
Personally, I'd rather see Kikaider but that's already dead to Adult Swim. So no dice.

I was okay with ATHF at midnight but it wont be at midnight in August. Sea Lab 2021 will get a double strip instead... Oh the inhumanity. I can't stand that crap... at all. At leas ATHF always made me laugh no matter how many times I saw an episode... Sea Lab is just stupid.

Even if Sealab bombs, they'll just replace it with Aqua Teen Hunger Force again

Then put WHR on at 1.5, also I would prefere if they kept the even split on weekdays and replaced ATHF with Space Ghost. (It appears that they are replacing it with Sealab :()

Face it. The anime:comedy ratio isn't returning to 2:1 anytime soon.

And I'd be "okay" with that if they aired something better than Sea Lab. Harvey Birdman followed by Space Ghost. Now that's a half hour worth watching!

Yes... Harvey Birdman on weekdays... that'd be great...
Let's just hope Kids' WB! makes a "Kids' WB! Adult Swim" block ;) :p

Hyper look it at this way. If this fails, it will be the deathnail of Sealab 2021. ATHF will be put back on the weekdays or anime moved back up. Plus, in August your one comedy show away (Futurama) from getting an entirely action block on Saturday, since VB seems to be promoted as the Megas-XLR of Adult Swim. Except a much funnier and more well made Megas-XLR.

I still don't see why they think we'd prefer the same repeats done to death (I now hat ATHF thanks to the weekday runs...great job WS) rather than classic Space Ghost or Home Movies...y'know, something dosen't get crappier the more it's aired.

AS learned that ratings for repeats of ATHF done to death > Home Movies.

Is it safe to assume at this point that extreme overplaying of a show on AS has little or no impact on ratings (FG, Futurama, ATHF)?

It would seem that way. Our Adult Swim has grown up, and now the mainstream audience dictates how ratings skew.
We wanted Family Guy and Futurama. We got them. And the casual audience that sticks around for the first hour...and seemingly a good portion of the carry over audience that ATHF could attract.
Next up Sealab.

Probably not considering new people discover Family Guy and Aqua Teen Hunger Force all the time. I know someone who just recently discovered Family Guy. And even if they know it's on chances are casual viewers don't watch these shows every day. They just turn it on at random nights when they're bored. So, they probably haven't seen all the episodes so they never get sick of it.

...
Anyway, Sealab has really churned out some utter crap lately, but the episodes from the first and second seasons are still good to this day and it'll be interesting to see the turning point of when the show just went to hell. Birdman doesn't have enough episodes to sustain multiple runs, let alone interest from too many people who'd want to see Birdman nine times a week and everyone just seems to hate SGC2C nowadays. And Brak just sucks.

Birdman should've had the Saturday spot that Sealab 2021 had. They should knock Futurama off of Saturday and put Harvey Birdman. Sealab 2021 weekdays will be good the first run through like I said before, but after that it will get boring and nobody will watch. ATHF you can watch over and over again, but Sealab... you can't. Space Ghost C2C would be sweet on weekdays, even if it was only one episode a day, and......The Brak Show SUCKS.

Space Ghost would be a spectacularly ironic choice to battle late night network television. That's why I'm all for it.
Though a good idea would be to bring back the 10 PM hour on weekdays so that Comedy and Action get equal screentime.
10:00: Futurama (TV-PG and a huge hit)
10:30: Home Movies (TV-PG, and there's a possibility of gain due to being in good company)
11:00: Family Guy (Racier but at a prime spot)
11:30: Space Ghost (Just in time to battle the talk shows)
12:00: InuYasha (The most popular living anime)
12:30: Detective Conan (Would gain from great lead-in)
1:00: Big O (Decent ratings, underplayed)
1:30: Lupin The Third (Just to make the internet happy)
Saturday:
11:00: InuYasha (Put the hit at the front of the block)
11:30: Fullmetal Alchemist (Fastpaced, ideal carryover from Toonami)
12:00: Read Or Die/Arjuna (More niche, but they, particularly Arjuna, could appeal to the InuYasha fans)
12:30: Ghost In The Shell (Slower, but in the spot that made Bebop huge)
1:00: Cowboy Bebop (To get people to stay up)
1:30: FLCL (Another proven hit)
Sunday:
10:00: Futurama (Great comedy lead-in, could gain carryover from FOX Sunday)
10:30: Family Guy (Don't mess with the pair)
11:00: Venture Brothers (Destined for ATHF-level heights)
11:30: Stroker And Hoop (Allow it to die a quick death or suceed in a prime slot)
12:00: Squidbillies (New WS series)
12:15: WS Originals (Whatever new stuff is planned)
12:30: Aqua Teens (Draw in the fans)
1:00: The Oblongs (A hit adquisition)
1:30: Baby Blues (Oddly popular)

Expand Adult Swim. The problem is that the programs on 2:00 to 4:30 is a repeat of what's shown on 11:00 to 1:30. Here's an expanded line up:
11:00- Family Guy
11:30- Futurama
12:00- Case Closed
12:30- Space Ghost Coast To Coast
01:00- Aqua Teen Hunger Force
01:30- Inuyasha
02:00- Lupin The 3rd
02:30- Witch Hunter Robin
03:00- Cowboy Bebop
03:30- Harvey Birdman Atourney At Law
04:00- Home Movies/Brak Show
04:30- Big O

The only problem is the damn reruns. Then the reruns would run to 6:00 and there would be no Time Squad or Captain Planet at 5 and 5.5. Plus no JCA at 10:30. I'd say keep it at 11:00 but expand it.

If Cartoon Network would reduce air time of shows to once per day then there would be room for all of those shows plus more.

Expanded AS has always been one of my favorite ideas to play around with...
11:00 - Family Guy
11:30 - Futurama
12:00 - Case Closed
12:30 - Inuyasha
01:00 - Aqua Teen Hunger Force / Sea Lab 2021 (because they are ratings hoars)
01:30 - Home Movies
02:00 - Lupin the 3rd
02:30 - Witch Hunter Robin
03:00 - Harvey Birdman / The Brak Show
03:30 - Space Ghost C2C (2 episodes) - the humor of this shows suits late spots
04:00 - Android Kikaider
04:30 - The Big O
Of course knowing AS they'd probaby sooner do this...
11:00 - Family Guy
11:30 - Futurama
12:00 - Aqua Teens / Sea Lab 2021
12:30 - Harvey Birdman / The Brak Show
01:00 - Inuyasha
01:30 - Case Closed
02:00 - Lupin the 3rd
02:30 - Witch Hunter Robin
03:00 - Family Guy
03:30 - Futurama
04:00 - Home Movies
04:30 - Space Ghost C2C

And here's another idea... Adult Swim 11-3AM with non-AS shows 3AM-5AM.
For weekdays:
11:00 - Family Guy
11:30 - Futurama
12:00 - Sea Lab 2021 / Aqua Teens
12:30 - Inuyasha
01:00 - Case Closed
01:30 - Lupin the 3rd
02:00 - Home Movies
02:30 - Space Ghost C2C
---------------------------
03:00 - Rurouni Kenshin
03:30 - .hack//SIGN or G Gundam
04:00 - Classics Rotation (Tex Avery, Chuck Jones, Bob Clampit, Popeye, Toon Heads, etc.)
04:30 - Late Night Black and White
For Saturdays:
11:00 - Venture Bros.
11:30 - Futurama
12:00 - Inuyasha
12:30 - Wolf's Rain
01:00 - Cowboy Bebop
01:30 - Trigun
02:00 - Witch Hunter Robin
02:30 - The Big O
------------------------
03:00 - Yu Yu Hakusho (encore)
03:30 - Gundam Seed (encore)
04:00 - .hack//DUSK (encore)
04:30 - Cyborg 009 Season 2 (encore)
For Sundays:
11:00 - Family Guy
11:30 - Harvey Birdman / Sea Lab 2021
12:00 - Aqua Teens / The Brak Show
12:30 - Venture Bros. (encore)
01:00 - Mission Hill
01:30 - Baby Blues
02:00 - The Oblongs
02:30 - Space Ghost C2C (because it's that good)
------------------------
03:00 - Toon Heads
03:30 - The Popeye Show
04:00 - Classics Rotation
04:30 - Late night Black and White
I do think that would be awesome.

Great Idea, Hyper. I actually agree. Just take out all the Toonami shows and put more classics. Toonami has their block, classics at this time, doesn't.

It would be alright if the 2-5AM stuff gets different stuff, but actually I use the repeats often. Space Ghost and Home Movies could find more time there if the weekday 2-5 was different though.
FG - FU - SG - HM - CC - L3 while 11-2 stays FG - FU - SL - IY - CC - L3
