View Full Version : Egads no! Not Sea Lab on weekdays!!!

Boy I hope this tanks. I can't stand Sea Lab. Why do those idiots keep double stripping episodes of the short comedies when it would make so much more sense to air two different ones in that half hour slot.
Have Sea Lab followed by Aqua Teen or vise versa.
I demand Harvey Birdman on weekdays...
If they are gonna do this then they should give Inuyasha back it's midnight slot so I wont have to stay up so late to watch Case Closed anymore.
The intelligence level on Adult Swim weekdays has reached a new low... and yes it's lower than Aqua Teens double strip (at least I laugh every time I watch that show, as stupid as it is).

Yeah! They should totally bend to your will! Stupid people at WS. I can't believe they would play two episodes of Sea Lab a night (to promote the new DVD).
I don't see why they don't just use the fantasy schedules that some of the people on TZ make up. They totally know all about ratings and whatnot. -_- When will WS learn.

When is it starting? I've been wanting to catch up on the show before I buy the DVD set.

I don't care if WS pleases me all the time or anything but I'll be danged if I don't hate the idea of having Sea Lab on weekdays. It's too much man just too much.

Finally... something we can agree on. :anime:
If they have to air comedy at midnight then they should use better shows and use two different shows.
Harvey Birdman followed by Space Ghost. Now that's a half hour worth watching!

I'm geuninely curious as to how this will work out, it really could go either way. Since ATHF and Sealab are similar styles of comedy it could pick up; but it seems even the bigger Sealab fans are disappointed with the show as of late.
In a perfect world I'd like double Space Ghost, but that probably won't happen. =(

The old Sealab episodes had some classics, so this doesn't bother me at all. Sure they could have done other things with the slot, but I would wager Sealab could bring in some good numbers.
Plus, they have those DVD's to sell.

I just want to see Happy Cake again, been a year and I can't remember why I liked it.
Other than that, yeah, this is kinda dissapointing. There are other shows I'd rather have on but pretty soon ATHF would have been played so much you'd wish Sealab was on, so they probally figure "Hey let's take it off before people female dog while we promote, kill two birds with one stone". The problem is ATHF isn't exactly unfresh yet and Sealab is just hated on here on the net in some places.
Whatever happens, happens.
I'm glad to see ATHF getting a rest, it was starting to wear a bit with it being doubled up and running weekly for awhile now.
I'm looking forward to seeing more of Sealab since I haven't seen all of them, and this will give me a chance to, much like ATHF on the weekdays gave me a chance to see all of them.
Perhaps after this we'll see another comedy get doubled up.. I'll follow Landstander's sentiments about Space Ghost.. That would be cool.

There should be some sort of law against that. As least Space Ghost is consistantly funny, and doesn't insult its audience and its writers like Sealab (mid Season 2-beyond) does.
Things like this make me nostalgic for when Adult Swim came on.

I'm going to step in and be one of the first not to complain about this. I think that, up until the newest batch of episodes in which they replaced Murphy, Sealab has been one of the better WS originals, equal to or (in the case of the shows' respective first seasons) better than Aqua Teens.
Of course, in a perfect world they'd show one episode of Aqua Teens followed by an episode of Sealab or vice versa. Or better yet, they could alternate between ATHF followed by Sealab and Space Ghost followed by Birdman or Brak Show every other day for some real variety. But if they're determined to double up on one show on weekdays, I have absolutely no problem with it being Sealab.

NO interest in Sea Lab whatsoever...the VCR is still taping Case Closed overnight so I don't have to stay up.
As much as I hate Sealab now, I can't say that I would have a problem with it on weekends so long as it were gone from either Sunday or Saturday and was only one episode... 2 Sealabs means it runs through the crap twice as fast.

While I don't mind two Sealabs in the weekday strip, I think the block would be much better served with one ATHF and one Sealab... but I'd rather see one ATHF and one Space Ghost, starting from the beginning or at least from the second season of Space Ghost's run (maybe skipping some of the too-long eps, instead of butchering them down to eleven minutes).

I'll put in another vote for the Sealab is ok, but split the half hour with something else position.
The latest season isn't the best of the series, but the previous seasons have been great for the most part. I think a weekday run would be cool, although I'd rather have 15 minutes of Sealab and 15 minutes of something else.
Dear Lord no. Not for half an hour.
I'd be for a 15 minute Aqua Teen/Sealab comedy half hour, but one half hour to Sealab? Blech.
I thought the Saturday airings and the new eps were supposed to be the ammunition needed to hustle the DVDs.
Maybe they haven't sold enough of them, which comes as no surprise to me. As DVD sets go, it's pretty feeble, but hey, consider the source material.
In any case, that's 30 minutes I don't have to bother even having on in the background anymore. Let 'em try to shill Sealab in Aqua Teens place and lean the brutal lesson that there are ATHF fans and Sealab fans and a very small (at best) carryover.
Then they can wonder why everyone gets bitterly, brutally sick of Sealab in a hot hurry, as I have a feeling a lot of Sealab's flaws will become more apparent in a M-T grind than they have a weekend-only show. Some of it's more egregious flaws were lessened by week off before watching it again.
Then in six months we can do this all over again when they try to slot Brak and/or Birdman in the midnight slot.

Half Hour of Sealab 2021 > Half Hour of Witch Hunter Robin, Wolf's Rain, Inuyasha, The Brak Show...
Though, I do think they need to at least strip the WB imports once or twice. Throw Baby Blues on for a month, then Mission Hill. Then swap things up and actually air each original in some form of a schedule at the 12 spot... put SGC2C in a perma-spot at 12:15, swap out The Harvey Birdman 2021 Hunger Force Show at 12:00.

I still think it might be a good idea NOT to have the same lineup all week. Maybe alternate between two lineups. Considering how many shows they have that can only be aired during those 3 hours, it seems like a reasonable option. Of course, this should really only be done with syndicated shows. Case Closed, for example, should remain on all 4 days.

Networks found out that alternating shows is a death trap. People aren't used to the whole weekly or daily alternating thing and get confused thinking their favorite show is gone.

I'd be happier if it was only 15 minutes. Aw man I'm gonna miss syncing up the ATHF episode on TV with the episode on my DVD. Haha
They should so just bring back Space Ghost. I still haven't bought that DVD yet.

Hopefully this goes the way ATHF was originally supposed to and only have one complete weekday run. I like Sealab, especially the first season and a half, but I'd much rather have (in this order) Home Movies, and ATHF/Sealab split, or two ATHFs.

Sealab is gone from saturdays because Furturama is taking its spott after getting pushed back by Venture Bros. I agree they should take Sealab off sunday and maybe push ATHF and Brak up to have Space Ghost at 12:15. I will watch the first rotation of Sealb but after that, I won't unless I catch it on by accident. Harvey would be nice and so would Space Ghost. But for now, I'll let it be...until they start playing them over and over and over again like what they did with ATHF.
I want my ATHF back on Weekdays >:o
And it should be Birdman at 12 and ATHF at 12:15am.

Sealab is off on Sunday. It was replaced by Stroker and Hoop, or whatever that show is called, starting this Sunday. With both the Saturday and Sunday airings gone, they had to put Sealab 2021 somewhere, and that left only weekdays. Of course they should only make it 15 minutes (probably at 12:15 AM) after Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Space Ghost Coast to Coast, The Brak Show, or one of the other successful Adult Swim comedies.

Birdman needs more than 20 episodes to even appear on weekdays. I mean ATHF has over twice as many episodes as Birdman and I believe Sealab also approaches that total.
SGCTC just doesnt get the ratings and neither does Brak or Home Movies. Its ATHF, Sealab, or another airing of FG/Futurama. Take your pick.

What can't it be Case Closed? It gets good ratings. Maybe it just needs a earlier slot to be a break out hit.

What can't it be Case Closed? It gets good ratings. Maybe it just needs a earlier ...slot to be a break out hit.
It is getting DECENT ratings. It was getting 300,000 when it on 30 minutes earlier. Compare that to the 600,000 viewers ATHF got. Moving it up 30 minutes won't account for the loss of 300,000 viewers. It is getting good enough ratings where it might get more episodes, but not enough to consider moving it up an hour. If any anime gets that spot it will be MORE Inu-Yashu repeats, which has been overplayed more than either ATHF or Sealab.

This does suck, I was actually catching a bunch of ATHF episodes I had missed from S1 and S2, I guess I can do the same for early sealab episodes I missed. I would not mind Space ghost and bring back episodes from 94 etc.

I think the reasoning behind putting up a half-hour block of one show in the strips as opposed to an ATHF/Sealab combo sits better with casual channel surfers who won't want to see half of some other show and then come back for whatever's in the second block. The hardcore AS fans still have their stuff on weekends, I think the strips are geared more toward bringing in the casual fan. An since "classic" Sealab has about 32 episodes, they can strip them 8 eps a week for a month with no repeats.
As for the Sealab discs' sales figures, it's reportedly already sold enough to warrant a second volume, for which they're actually putting together some new material and bigger extras, a la ATHF.

Sealab at 12 means I'll be watching something else that half-hour, like something from my own collection. ATHF has some humor to it, but Sealab just flounders around in a very unfunny fashion. Oh well, they've committed to Squidbillies, which hopefully will be funny, and they've got Venture Bros. coming up. (^_*)

Case Closed is already late at night/early in the morning! I have to watch SeaLab, and IY, just to watch a show. Here's a dream lineup:
11:00: Futurama
11:30: Family Guy
12:00 IY
12:30: CC
1:00: Witch Hunter Robin/Big O season 2
1:30: Lupin/Space Ghost (I watched it way before it was on AS)/any other show
They could just do ATHF. I've had enough SeaLab. I think the show's....pretty stupid...
THEY SHOULD LEAVE IT ON THE WEEKENDS!
It's either ATHF or Space Ghost with me. And switch IY with Case Closed (I'm taking about the line-up AS has).
Stroker and Hoop should be on Sunday. ONLY SUNDAY.
And as for Sat....
Dude, it's like anime isn't even on there. I though weekends were action, including Sat. That's what they said a few months ago....?
We should have picket signs, and have a strike saying :"No more SeaLab on weekdays!" Just kidding.
They should leave it for Sunday, then make room for more shows...like that Fluubles thing Turbine's talking about.
Right now, Lupin's the only thing that keeps me up to watch AS on weeknights.
The schedule does need a change. Preferably one that has an anime replacing Sealab.

I was outraged that they replaced Aqua Teen with Sealab... Now I barely even watch the 12 O'Clock hour... One Sealab -- maybe, but two Sealabs?! That's not fair! It's apparent that this show has gone downhill, and putting it on two times nearly every night makes it worse!

i have to admit i have despised sealab since the pilot episode, as I find it to be...well, not funny whatsoever. But then again I'm a weirdass, so my opinion doesn't get much credit in society. >_>
not as weird as hyper sensei from the look of it, but yeah. heh
i can understand their weekday push to push DVD sales, but yeesh. I really hope this doesn't last more than two months, and we can get to some space ghost/harvey/something other than sealab. At least ATHF, another show I'm not crazy about, has hilarious side characters like Carl. =)

I don't get that. The beauty of the short toons is that they can be fast, irrelvant and punchy without getting boring. The finish before they start to get old. ATHF, HB, SL all have a similar sort of gag set up and one that works over a shorter period than a longer one. Surely one of the ket reason they are all kept to a short length. Putting the same show on twice is like making a double length one, which doesn't suit the format for any of them. Crazy.
I do enjoy sealab a lot, but I do think that's weird scheduling.
