Boldened the cool parts.

Cartoon Network’s ADULT SWIM play of the Seth McFarlane hit series Family Guy (Wednesday, 11 p.m.) set an all-new adults 18-34 delivery record for a single Cartoon Network telecast, attracting more than 4.3 million unique viewers ages 2+, according to Nielsen Media Research. Paired back to back with the space-age Futurama (Wednesday, 11:30 p.m.), the two programs landed among the top 10 basic cable programs of the week for adults 18-34—Family Guy ranking #8 and Futurama ranking #10. Highlights of Family Guy’s performance, including triple-digit delivery and ratings increases vs. the same time period last year, along with ADULT SWIM’s overall performance include the following:

Family Guy (Wednesday, 11 p.m.)

Adults 18-34 delivery (1,102,000) improved by 108% and ratings (1.7) by 113%.
Adults 18-24 delivery (617,000) jumped by 85% and ratings (2.3) by 92%.
Women 18-34 delivery ballooned by 157% and ratings by 150%.
Makes you wonder what age those other 3.2 million people were.

Well if we divide up by the actual percentiles of CN's total-day demographic:

18-34 (35%): 1.5 million
6-11 (30%): 1.1 million
12-17 (20%): .9 million
2-6 (15%): .7 million

Now, this isn't very accurate, obviously. And of course for 2-11 year olds you can assume that in some cases it's either the TV being left on or AS-loving Neilson carriers punching in numbers for every demographic just to support the block.

ALSO, it ignores 34-49 year olds entirely.

So let's assume, then, this more realistic estimate:

18-34: 1.1 million
12-17: 1.1 million
34-49: .9 million
6-11: .8 million
2-6: .4 million

CN's teen demographic however, pretty much watches exclusively Adult Swim(some might watch JL, SJ and Toonami, but that's about it outside of the internet fanboy geeks), which is why Adult Swim has fairly good teenage fanbase, but the network on a whole has a lousy one because that right there is 90-95% of their teens.

Obviously teens watch Adult Swim and not Toonami. Otherwise we'd be hearing about Toonami in press releases more than ONE WEEK out of FIFTEEN.

Maybe you could increase the teen delivery... lower the 2-6 a little..

I'll fix this in my post.

Well Matt Wilson...ugh...I won't bother. You probally have a counter logic ready by now. Well the numbers are just ubelievable, can't take in that a show in reruns can beat premiers.

You probably wouldn't be able to grasp that when Oblongs came back on the air back in 2003, it scored the highest Sunday night ratings for 18-34 ever.

People like Family Guy more than anime. Truth. Fact. End. Live with it, I guess.

Heh funny thing, some people at my college were recently introduced to it(it was not my doing) and that's essentialy all they have been talking about...Family Guy...infact one wishes to be addressed as Quagmire...and another one as Stewie...

I mean personaly I enjoy it, but I wouldn't get it on DVD

I'm glad the show is doing well. A part of me wishes FOX would realize Futurama isn't doing to bad either and they'd bring it back. :(

Well Futurama on the last Saturday night Ratings almost beat out Inu Yasha, and I can truly say that Inu Yasha and Futurama share alot in common with ratings in both the action sector and Comedy sector, and that is what all it matters to Adult Swim, as long as the Saturday block stays on.

I'm not exactly sure how you arrived at the conclusion that it's too much like a sketch comedy.

Futurama was meanspirited? Er, ah, wha?

And I'm not even going to touch that "wasn't as funny" line.

Are we still talking about Futurama? Because if you think Simpsons isn't mean-spirited... uh.. what about EVERY EPISODE AFTER (and including) THE FOURTH SEASON? It's when they rewrote Homer to be more of a jerk, after all. Though a funny jerk.

Matt, you need to calm down, try being nice to people, that way Santa will give you lots of presents on Christmas.

You think Futurama is too mean-spirited? How do you watch Adult Swim? 90% of their comedy seems to be more mean-spirited than Futurama, where the characters actually have sincere, emotional moments (The Sting, The Luck of the Fryrish, Jurassic Bark, etc.) I love Family Guy and Aqua Teens, but they're a lot more mean-spirited than Futurama.

Though a funny jerk.Homer was a jerk in the second and third seasons too (see the first 3/4s of Lisa's Substitute and When Flanders Failed.)

Edit: Forgot Dead Putting Society.

Edit 2: I don't think Futurama is mean-spirited either.

guide to getting conan ratings:

11:00 family guy
11:30 conan
12:00 family guy
12:30 conan
1:00 family guy

:p

then after 1 week of that change the schedule back to having conan at 12:30 and we're set

Hey, I don't think I'm alone when I say the only reason I don't go off on people is because I'd be repeating what matt already expertly expresses. It's not his fault if wacked otaku are offended by the success of an american comedy cartoon or certain people live up to their usernames.

Also, I think people just use an "angry man" inner voice when they read my posts so they come off with a different meaning than I intended. Half the posts I make that people consider "mean-spirited" are not and that's a fact. People blow it way out of proportion.

Meh, whatever. I'm still talking about Futurama. I hope that it pulls a Family Guy and FOX decides to continue it. I'm allowed to hope this. If you don't see it happening, that's fine, but i don't see why you begrudge us discussing it. Or am I just interpreting you the wrong way?

*looks at Matt's post*

*looks at people*

Geez, you people must have very delicate sensibilities...

BTW, I'm glad to see FG have a female following, since it's the sort of show that's normally only marketed to males. Maybe someone will give a crap about my demographic for a change. (Or maybe that's a bad thing, as I don't really need to see any more stupid Kotex commercials).

That's flamebait. You imply that I hate Futurama because it's an American show and then you call me stupid? I don't hate Futurama, I do think it's somewhat overrated, but, my personal opinion really has nothing to do with what I said. Someone mentioned that Futurama was supposed to be the next Simpsons. And I said that that didn't happen because Futurama wasn't as funny as the Simpsons and was more mean spirited. Matt Groening has said that Fox's reason for cancelling Futurama was because it was mean spirited. Yes, Fox can be dumb sometimes, but there is some truth to what they say.

I don't see how someone can say Futurama isn't mean spirited when there's suicide booths and people getting burnt to ashes and people and animals being eaten alive. Yes, the Simpsons can be mean spirited every once and a while, such as that one episode where they show the singles apartment complex and you heard a gunshot indicating suicide, but that seems much rarer than some of the stuff on Futurama. And please don't cite the Halloween episodes, as they're not in continuity.

Yes, Aquateen Hunger Force is mean spirited, and guess what, it will never be the next Simpsons. All I was saying was that Futurama would never be the next Simpsons. Neither would Aquateen Hunger Force. I like Aquateen Hunger Force, but it would never ever be able to take the place of the Simpsons. I mean, for God's sakes, the Simpsons is a family show. Could you imagine families sitting around the TV watching Aquateen Hunger Force? I don't really think Futurama is really as much of a family show as the Simpsons either. It doesn't matter how good the show is, it just isn't as family friendly as the Simpsons. Didn't we recently have a thread where a schoolteacher was concerned that her students could quote Bender?

Besides, Futurama is a workplace comedy, not a family comedy, so I don't see how anyone could possible think it's the next Simpsons.

I don't think Family Guy is really mean to women. Lois is a reasonably strong female character. Meg is a joke, but not a joke against women, more a joke about the bland angsty teenage character in every sitcom. The guys make fun of women a lot, but they're pretty juvenile characters anyway. It's all in fun :D

No, I was talking about people who get pissed at family guy getting all the ratings and not their favorite japanamations.

Then I made a crack against you because it was an easy one to make and I can't not take advantage of that even if you hadn't said anything particularly disagreeable.
