View Full Version : Miguzi Becoming All Girls?

Okay I have one theory on why Miguzi isn't doing anything new. CN wants to make an all girls block. It actually makes perfect sense. This fall Powerpuff Teens, Life and Times of Juniper Lee, and Atomic Betty are coming. All have some action and revolve around girls. So the only show they'd keep would be Totally Spies. Because Teen Titans and Turtles are airing elsewhere and they could find a spot for Code: LYOKO (or just cancel it). I have nothing against female action cartoons, I actually think it might work. But a compromise between genders is the best thing.

I don't think CN originals will go to Miguzi that quickly, or all at once.

Boy that'd suck for boys on weekday afternoons, that's all I gotta say...
After 3-5PM if you can stand the junk on KWB then you've got NOTHING to look forward to unless you have Toon Disney. But in general CN has a lot of boys content but if they were to make Miguzi an all girls destination then they'd defintently have to put Toonami on weekdays again to balance the equation a bit in the after school to [adult swim] hours of CN. Even if it's just an hour it's gotta be there.
However...
I could see Miguzi being 2 obviously girl shows and 2 boys shows that girls would like but not all girls shows. They'd rotate instead.
The top show would always be girl centric, that's for sure. It's the "hook" afterall.
If Miguzi became much more girl centric, I could see expanding from 4-5 making it 4-7PM or even moving to 3-5 (or 3-6) if it's an all girls destination since KWB doesn't care for the girls ratings anyway.

I'm sure it won't become all girls, it is just a possibility. Besides I don't think the three originals would have enough episodes.

13 episodes each I'm guessing, not enough until there's at least 2 seasons (making 26) or 3 (making 39).
I don't believe Power Puff Teens is a series either. Just shorts.
Hi Hi Puffy Aumi could be on Miguzi though.

I can actually see Miguzi becoming all girls. Kidswb gets the boys from 3-5 and from 5-7 CN gets the girls.

Only Hi Hi PuffyAmiYumi is slated for Miguzi.
Atomic Betty is set to premiere on Cartoon Network Fridays and any alternate timeslots would be outside of block scheduling.
The Life and Times of Juniper Lee, being written by Judd Winnick, will probably debut in primetime also.

CN said I think they wanted more girl ratings and this is it, so like it's 50/50, boys I guess cna have Toonami or SJ or JL etc when girls have this. On Atomic Betty, I see that in the morning and the Juniper lee show I also see in primetime or possibly Toonami, nah maybe not Toonami.

Wouldn't it make more sense for CN to going for the girls at 3-5PM than 5-7PM? Given that KWB has the boys covered 3-5PM? Obviously they shouldn't alienate girls from 5-7PM either but it makes sense to target girls when the boys are being targeted elsewhere doesn't it?
I seriously doubt Code Lyoko is going anywhere soon unless it's for a short break to hype up Season 2 whenever it comes.
Depending on JCA's ratings, the rest of Season 2 + Season 3 of TMNT may premiere on Toonami instead of Miguzi. (Also depends on the schedule, of course.)

Let us pray that this doesn't happen. Speaking of which, where are all the boy-aimed Cartoon Network Originals this year?

Miguzi becoming an all girl block isn't surprising. Just hope that the new shows coming aren't as bad as Totally Spies.
I don't see Miguzi going all girl anytime soon. What Matt said about where the shows are going, makes the most sense anyway, so I'm glad that's what CN will most likely do.
But I do see Miguzi definitely focusing on shows that bring in both boys and girls.. Obviously..
Depending on JCA's ratings, the rest of Season 2 + Season 3 of TMNT may premiere on Toonami instead of Miguzi. (Also depends on the schedule, of course.) How so? Are you saying that they're similar shows, so that if JCA is doing alright on Toonami than so can TMNT? .. Or that JCA might take TMNT's spot in Miguzi (which I think would be a good move, once TMNT gets a tad too repetitive)

There will obviously be nothing new on Miguzi until we find out in the fall. Not even sure if season 3 of TS will premier in september (because thats when CN is recieving the eps) ... I'm wondering if there will be new eps of Code Lyoko because that can go nicely on Miguzi... and weekends, but not twice a day. TMNT can air elsewhere and although Teen Titans is on Miguzi, i don't think they'll make changes yet.

Okay, so the fall Miguzi schedule now might go like:
4-Totally Spies
4.5-Code:LYOKO
5- Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi
5.5-Something Else (Sonic X, Shaman King, SD Gundam, Teen Titans, TMNT, or something entirley different)

I forgot to put Energon, Ultimate Muscle, Cubix, and Astro Boy on my 5.5 possibilities.

More the former. Obviously, with Teen Titans, JCA, JLU, and Megas, CN has faith that their non-anime action shows can premiere well on Toonami, so TMNT isn't out of the realm of possibility.

if miguzi stays the same the rest of the year, the ratings are gonna really start to fall. atleast i hope.

Actually, they're talking about moving Megas to Miguzi once it has enough episodes in the can, so I doubt they'll be making the move to all girl Miguzi any time soon.

The heck they'll move Megas! The only spot outside of Toonami it should have it on prime time and in obscure places like Saturday or Sunday mornings.
Maybe it wouldn't be all bad to make Miguzi a girl action block... Move it to when KWB is airing boys toons and they should get TONS of ratings.
03:00 - Power Puff Girls (not teens)
03:30 - Code Lyoko (I'm pretty sure more girls dig this one than guys)
04:00 - Totally Spies
04:30 - Hi Hi Puffy Aumi
Ah but then what to put from 5-7PM? Well it can't be Toonami since that would be rather counter productive wouldn't it?
Weekday Video Entertainment System (it's not last fall's Toonami, but it might as well be)
05:00 - SD Gundam (the ratings power house)
05:30 - Shaman King
06:00 - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (or Sonic X if they get that too)
06:30 - X-Men: Evolution or Teen Titans (the other power house)
It makes for less CC reruns and THAT's always a good thing. Let the CC's have their whenever to 3PM and good slots in prime time but 3-7PM I want some action dang it!
Obi's gonna ask for Energon on WVES... I just know it. Stick it where you want it Obi, I don't care to put it down.

The block's for action-comedies. And we don't know what HiHi PuffyAmiYumi wil be like until we know more than just a one-paragraph blurb from February.
Megas on Miguzi.. that would be an interesting fit. Would be awhile though to get a decent amount of episodes.. but it could work..
Definitely would keep Miguzi from being all girls, that's for sure..
And i wonder how HiHi PuffyAmiYumi will be..

I just wanna tell all you boys that I am a girl and I watch ALL the boy shows, (or at least most of them.) there is no such thing as a GIRL or a BOY show, and that is a sexist thing to say. I used to watch Himura Kenshin, when it was airing, and I used to watch gundam wing and Yu Yu Hakishue. If that's how you spell it, I also used to watch Dragonball Z! So, it is rude to act the way you are now!

"Girl" show = show targetted at a female audience; it may or may not bring in a crowd other than girls, but it is still most definitely targeted at girls
"Boy" show = show targetted at a male audience; it may or may not bring a crowd other than guys, but it is still most definitely targeted boys
"Everyone" show = show targeted at both genders
There's nothing sexist about it.

Because they Toonami isn't press worthy according to CN so maybe they'd rather have all their hits in one place.
But we all know that the 31st will get Toonami in the next press release for sure... but doubtfully with the demo ratings that it's "targeting".
Well you can be very sexist in how you say a show is for either a boy or a girl but there are shows that are targeted specifically at girls and specifically at boys.
Especially in Japan. There are shonens (for boys) and shojos (for girls) but actually there a lot of girls who love shonen and a lot of boys who (somewhat shamefully) love shojo. *looks at Karl Olsen* (though he has no shame).

I'm sorry I'm not trying to be sexist. Mabye I should have called this Miguzi Becoming All Girl Targeted. I understand that girls do watch boy targeted shows (my sister does) and boys watch girl targeted shows (I sometimes do). Oh Hyper Sensei, your idea is great! Miguzi from 2-4 and WVES from 4-6. I mean there should be some shows targeted at girls while boys are being targeted on KWB. One problem. I'm not home from school around that time, so some of the audiance won't be.

Actually, the "common industry saying" is that girls will watch boys' show, but boys won't watch girly shows. :p

Oh burn. Getting your digs in on threads I might not even see... tisktisketcbleh ;)
Anyway, I was raised on a blend of boys and girls toons (well, It's Punky Brewster and Noozles is about as girl as it got for me,) so it's only natural that I'd have more affinity for shoujo than the average dude (mmm... Clover.) But enough about me.
Is gender targetted programming sexist: IMHO, no. So what if boys are less likely to like stuff like Tokyo Mew Mew, Sailor Moon, Totally Spies and Code Lyoko (and your average network exec will tell you that is the case.) That doesn't mean they aren't fun/interesting/whatever shows. So most girls are turned off the blazing action of Kenshin, DBZ and Gundam (that's what sunk Toonami on the weekdays.) Still, that doesn't mean they aren't fun/interesting/whatever shows. Tastes are personal issues, and honestly, the greater variety of differently targetted programming CN can provide, the better from my stand point as a general animation fan. I like a network that can give me everything from Lyoko to ATHF to Yu Yu. Variety rocks.
Will Miguzi ever go all girls: I doubt it. It might be more girl heavy at points, but I don't think they want a reverse of the Toonami situation (all girls watching, no boys.) They are gonna look for action properties (which draws boys) with humor (which draws everyone when it's done well,) and in some cases, the property will have some girl power (which'll bring balance to the action side.) It's a very good plan, and really, I've got to give CN my respect for making a block that has shows that skew towards one gender or another. I hope they keep it up (Puffy Ami Yumi's show looks promising, and though I'm not confident that 4kids will get the show done right, Tokyo Mew Mew would be a great, possible addition to the block in late 2005 if it is dubbed well,) because the more variety, the more impervious the network becomes to changes in taste.
He didn't say MEGAS would PREMIERE on Miguzi, just that the reruns would air there.
Of course the show is for 6-11 anyway, so I don't see why people are complaining.
The same reason people complained that DBGT was airing on SVES despite the fact it wasn't premieres. Cyborg 009 too.

I'm a big shoujo fan too. Cardcaptor Sakura is in my Top 5 favorite anime, with Rayearth high on the list as well, and my favorite manga at the moment is Tsubasa.
Wait, maybe I should just say I'm a big CLAMP fan. :anime:
