Whether they work or are nothing more than old "wives tales", what will you try to get rid of annoyances like hiccups and sneezing?
hiccups, what I've heard: chugging a glass of water, standing on your head, putting a teaspoon of salt under your tongue
what works: I hold my breath for as long as I possibly can, then swallow and the hiccups are gone
sneezing, what works: usually I hold my nose if there are no tissues around, but if that doesn't work I wait until I feel a sneeze coming and exhale through my mouth as quickly as possible. it really works.
bloody nose, what I've heard: tilting your head back (obviously I know that's a bad one), holding ice on it
what works: when I was younger, my nose would bleed constantly. the best way for me to stop it was just pinching my nose and keeping my nostrils closed.
that's all I can think of for now.

This sounds similar to what my grandmother always made me do which was to bend over the sink or bathtub so that your chin is pointing up to the ceiling then drink a glass of water - or at least try to! It seemed to work in a roundabout way, namely by half-drowning you but by the time you'd finished choking you'd forgotten you had hiccups.
Her other hiccups remedy was to drop a key down the back of your shirt, working on the assumption that the shock of the cold key would make 'em go away. Other than that making you breather into a brown paper bag or just suddenly yelling BOO! at you was supposed to work too :D
Me I just sit them out and hope nobody tries to talk to me. Strangely though any day I get hiccups I'm guaranteed to get them twice more before the day is out. Weird...

My hiccups solution is to hold my ears closed and hold my head very very still for about a minute. I've heard that hiccups are caused by an inner ear fluid imbalance and that this gives the fluids a chance to settle. I don't know how true it is, but it's always worked for me.

My hiccup cure is drinking anything slowly while holding your nose.
I've done it for years with a success rate of about 94%.

And if you feel a sneeze coming on, just say, "I'm going to sneeze." You then probably won't.

Yeah I got some:
Want to stop hiccups?: Let me punch you in the chest
Have a dry, unbloody nose?: Let me punch you symmetricaly in the face
Having bully problems?: Let me "change" their minds
Scared of the dark?: Carry a flashlight
Have diarrhea?: Go take a long, tedious crap
That girl won't look your way?: Stalk her until she notices you
Have to sneeze?: Do it

My dad always told me that hiccups were like choking for air. So rather than hold your breath(which never worked) or drowning yourself while doing yoga over the sink, I always found if you breath deeply a few times, they go away.
