View Full Version : CN Sunday Action - is CN gunning for Jetix?

So you may have noticed that CN has added 4 of it's hottest boys properties to the sunday morning line up from 8-10AM. It got me wondering... is CN trying to get the ratings that Jetix might be getting on Sundays (which I don't expect are that great)... and also will some kind of regular action block be formed out of this? I'd like it to be Toonami but that would sacrifice too much but they could throw on some Toonami shows (an encore of the Saturday episode perhaps) but keep it a nameless block.
07:00 - Duel Masters
07:30 - Rave Master
08:00 - Dragonball GT
08:30 - Astroboy
Or maybe they could toss in some old action like Batman: TAS, Superman: TAS, Batman Beyond, etc. Or how about some action shows that are currently off CN but aren't so old... like Samurai Jack, X-Men: Evolution, He-Man, Transformers, etc.
I like having TMNT on 7 times a week on CN alone but I have to admit it's getting to be overkill... and they ALWAYS start on the first episode which means it takes forever to get anywhere on a once a week basis. IMO they should start at season 2 for one of the once a week runs while the other is season 1. Keeps things fresher, but I guess that could be a bit confusing.
So do you guys think there is a reason CN put action shows on 8-10AM on Sunday's rather than keep the first movie in the double feature? Or is this just another wacky schedule change because CN's schedulers were feeling giddy one day?

It wouldn't be too hard to crush Jetix. I don't even think CN would have to try...

Well, Jetix does have Digimon, Power Rangers, Gargoyles, Spider-Man, X-Men...
Jetix has been my weekend morning block for a few months now. I haven't watched Kids' WB in a long time.

they also have beyblade...
nothing beats the first anime ever created in a remade version, though.

What are the shows? Jetix, like it or not, DOES have potensial but it all depends where they are planning to go with this. Before you know it there could be Jetix originals and more anime aqquisitions, that could lead them to get great ratings when they are on, then all of a sudden Jetix is on weekdays from 4-7. AND dare they even compete with Toonami on Saturday? I don't know, they seem to be doing well and I wouldn't lay an eye off them.

They do have original shows being made for the block by Disney and Fox Kids Europe such as Super Hyper Monkey Force Go (or something to that nature... dang that's a long name).

PLEASE GOD let Jetix go on 4-7...that would kick so much butt I swear...I want my Digimon airing when I'm actually awake...

Depending on your time zone... It does air 4-7PM on Toon Disney. At least it does for me. It's suppose to be 7-10PM though (7-11PM on weekends)

I don't have Toon Disney...I think I will soon though...

Yeah I wanted TD to watch Digimon as well but now that it's got Spider-Man... that just sweetens the deal!

Ah so it's already in progress. I don't believe I have Toon Disney so I was talking more like ABC Family timeslots. I personally hope Jetix expands a bit, CN gets some healthy challenge or whatever you'd call it which leads to better bringings.

Indeedly it does. Now, this is alittle off topic, but does anyone know what the monkey thing is about?

The only good shows on Jetix are Digimon, Gargoyles, Spider-Man and the first Power Rangers. On the weekends though, it's Digimon Tamers or 02 and not the original. From 8:00 - 10:00 is Power Rangers and Digimon. On Cartoon Network is Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and TMNT. The only good shows are the flashback Power Rangers at 8:00 on Jetix and TMNT on Cartoon Network. I'd say Cartoon Network is trying to beat out Jetix and put the good shows on when there ar'nt so many good shows on Jetixin that timeslot. Cartoon Network should bring back Rising Sun and put it on. Or put on Batman:TAS, Superman:TAS, Batman Beyond, Astro Boy or others. They could even pick up shows like The Zeta Project, Static Shock, Fighting Foodons, Funky Cops or Martin Mystery. Or bring back old Fox and ABC Family shows like Medabots, Tokyo Pig, Mon Colle Knights, Transformers, The Ripping Friends, or Kong:TAS. They would definately beat out Jetix then.

Sadly Rising Sun will probally never come back due to certain people that'll feel violated. Jetix could be like:
4.0- Digimon
4.5- Spider-Man
5.0- Beyblade
5.5- Medabots/Power Rangers
6.0- Slayers
6.5- Gargoyles
Mon-Fri right there.

No no no no no... Don't give Disney a reason to keep Slayers. I don't think Saban even finished dubbing a whole season or even half a season. Let the rights run out. They should be done soon.
Then we can have Slayers the way it should be... on CN and on at an age appropirate hour.

Trust me when I say I would love for that to happen but I don't even see Slayers on CN nowadays. I was told it was still possible by "someone" but that was last year. I put it in for mere fun and for something to watch, in reality that monkey thing might possibly be there instead.
Jetix is king, and that's all I have to say on this matter.
Seriously though, we need a revised Saturday Jetix. You know, something that's actually... um, GOOD. What Jetix needs to do is create something that can oppose Toonami and compete in ratings and such. Tarzan against Duel Masters, ooh, big threat. Tarzan is a cartoon based off a movie from 1999. Let's see, compare it to Duel Masters, which is actually FUNNY and has marketability with kids. Gee, I wonder. An hour of Power Rangers. OMG IT'S A RATINGS KILLER!!! I mean, pitted against JCA and Astroboy, they just don't compare!!! Next we have Digimon against Groove Adventure Rave and MEGAS XRL. Seeing as how Digimon is in repeats against two new shows (in America), although Digimon IS better, it loses. Next, Spiderman vs. Yuyu Hakusho and Dragonball GT. Spiderman is something I've never seen so I can't fairly compare it. Next is Beyblade vs. Gundam SEED. Hmm... toughie.
Toonami wins with Toon Disney not trying to put together a decent block. End.

Aren't those all reruns except for Power Rangers? And I can't believe Power Rangers is still on. I mean, I think it's popularity died several years ago. I mean, I haven't seen the toys advertised in like forever.
As for weekday mornings, I'm getting tired just talking about waking up early on weekdays...why isn't there a tired smiley? Well, this guys got his eyes closed, pretend he's sleeping with his mouth open :anime:

Wait? Why would Saban have to dub it? It's already dubbed, it just has to edited, and there ain't that much to be edited.

Let's keep in mind that Jetix hasn't even been around as long as Adult Swim. It could possibly still develop that D cup a block like Toonami has gained over the years. That being it isn't squashed before then.

I doubt that they will try to go after the Saturday morning Jetix because Warner Bros. doesn't wat to have CN competing with KidsWB and plus I think FoxBox would also be aginst it too, but I do think that we are definitly going to see a new Sunday moring block formed to go against Jetix, the real trick is to pick out shows that can draw as much or more people than the shows on Jetix.
I'd add He-Man,Thundercats, Batman:TAS and Justice League to the mix.

Yeah that's what I thought.
I forgot there was an uncut dub though. Thanks for catching that.
How about they make the Sunday Video Entertainment System?
08:00 - Duel Masters (encore)
08:30 - Astroboy
09:00 - Dragonball GT (encore)
09:30 - Rave Master (encore)
10:00 - Transformers: Energon
10:30 - He-Man and the Masters of the Universe
11:00 - Batman: TAS
11:30 - Superman: TAS
I forgot there was an uncut dub though. Thanks for catching that.
Somehow I think that's the ONLY dub that was made (which was one of the early anime dubs, as it was on VHS before DVD).

PR is Jetix's Yu-Gi-Oh! right now. DinoThunder (the newest incarnation) has had 4 marathons, and we're only in the 20's in episode count. Also, PR never left, there's been a new series each year, with SPD coming in February.
On the weekends though, it's Digimon Tamers or 02 and not the original.
You talking about Toon Disney or ABC Family Jetix? On ABC Family, the weekend Digimon is Frontier (which is trying its best to be suckier than 02).
Jetix has been my weekend morning block for a few months now. I haven't watched Kids' WB in a long time.
Same here. All I watch on KWB anymore is Pokémon (Used to watch YGO, but Gargoyles trumps it), and TMNT is the only thing I watch on FoxBox.

Duel Masters, really, early Sunday morning? The first time I saw it, I was like, blah, but if they're starting for the beginning, and the whole paradoxical-thing is actually worth sticking around for, then I might check it out.
Oh, and as for Power Rangers. Yeah, people like me who watched Power Rangers when it first came on dislike, or hate, the show now, wondering why it's still on. Thing is, there's always a new bunch of young kids who are seeing PR and how much it rocks... to them, anyway.
Watch... PR still on 10 years from now in its 20-something'th incarnation, and the kids who love it now will really hate it but a new generation will still be flocking to it.
As long as there's still a market for a PR series (and toys), there will still be a PR. Just like there's still a Gundam. Of course that's apples and oranges, but who's comparing fruit here?
Ahem... back on topic... Duel Masters on Sundays? There goes sleeping in after the long Saturday nights!

Wait? Why would Saban have to dub it? It's already dubbed, it just has to edited, and there ain't that much to be edited. The thing is, Slayers uses a lot of the VA's that 4Kids is using now, and it would be difficult to find the time to get Lisa Oritz or Eric Stuart over to Fox to rerecord over all the hells, damns, and breast size jokes. The VA's are already busy working on like 3000 episodes for 4Kids every year as it is, so it would probably be easier for Saban to just rerecord the whole thing from scratch.

Which is why Central Park Media keeps doing these short OAVs and series, because they use the same group as well.

Yeah that's what I thought.

Actually, I read on an Ask John column that the Slayers DVDs ARE edited. But, I think they only have like one or two scenes cut out. I really never bothered to find more information about it.
Anyway, from the VHS copies I have, there really doesn't seem to be much for even Disney to edit out. Mostly just dialogue changes. I don't think the footage has to be touched. There might be one nude scene in the first season, but it would be easy to edit or could simply be cut. There's a few deaths in the show, but they're bloodless if I remember correctly. And I don't think Disney has a problem with bloodless deaths, after all characters die on Gargoyles. I really don't think much footage would have to be altered, even for Disney.

If it's really that hard to get them then they could always just mute out the words like CN has been doing lately, or simply cut the scenes with breast jokes. There's no way rerecording the whole thing would be easier from any perspective. I mean, really, how long would it take for the actors to rerecord a few lines anyway?

I think we just need to let the Slayers thing pass. Why let Disney get interested when the rights they have should be done soon? Just let it pass and leave the poor show alone.

IIRC, it was the final scene at the end of the 1st season after the ED credits.
It was on the VHS but got sliced out in the DVD.
There's nothing objectionable in it, so most likely just a careless error.
