View Full Version : Spelling? any trouble?
Is anyone willing to admit, I surely am, that I cannot spell...I know it is not a function of intelligence, or reading, but I have heard many ideas on the subject..You cannot guess the number of times I have had to go back and correct my spelling? Anyone out there like me? Stuart:o

Hmm, normally I don't misspell but since I type so fast, a few typos do come up. Normally it's stuff like "normal" or "believe" which end up being "nromal" or "beliebe".

ooh ooh ooh!! Me memmemememe!! Um... heh. Yes. I am definately one of the worst spellers around. Which is why I currently have about 5 dictionaries/thesauruses at my desk.
It's actually very interesting in my family. My mother is an Ace spelling wiz (even won a Bronx Spelling Bee a million years ago), but can't handle directions, mathematics, logistic type stuff. My father was the exact opposite... genius with mathematics and engineering, but couldn't spell for the life of him (it's fascinating going through some drafts for some of his books... physics and stuff beyond me by years, but spelling... well...). I've got a blend of both's strengths & weaknesses... but I'm stinko in the spelling department.

I'm rather a good speller, although sometimes written clusters of mess me up. But in general I don't make many spelling errors, but given that I write a lot, it's pedantry by force of habit.
Occasionally a mistakenly attack the first letter of a word the the last word I just wrote. i.e. and the --> andt he
My real problem is with accidentally inserting the wrong word in a sentence or omitting a word.

I am a king of the quick edit. And not just spelling related errors, sometimes I leave out entire words.

Occasionally a mistakenly attack the first letter of a word the the last word I just wrote. i.e. and the --> andt heI do that all the time. But I don't really consider that a spelling flaw, just poor typing skills on my part.

Well, hey, I can think what I like. :p

:D I like to think that when I do that it's because my brain works SO fast, my hands just can't keep up. I think sorta the same thing, it's just that my brain is average and my hands are so fat and sausage-like that they can't keep up. :p
I'm usually a pretty good speller. If I know I'm absolutely going to butcher a word than I'll look it up, but if I'm just a little off I'll just leave it alone.

Is anyone willing to admit, I surely am, that I cannot spell...I know it is not a function of intelligence, or reading,Intelligence and reading are probably the two things that will guarantee excellent spelling, but that's just me talking. I'm sure there's lots of idiots who don't read that spell terrific.

I would say I'm a good speller, with some exceptions :0 I am known to confuse those "ie" and "ei" words and even simple words.

I consider myself a pretty good speller (people always end up asking me how to spell things), but I figure it's because I read a ton. By typing is a different matter. I type pretty fast, but make errors, but that's just the whole typing skills thing.

I'm an okay speller. If I don't know a word though, I just go to my handy little dictionary. This reminds me of my 7th grade spelling bee. There were only 15 people participating and 10 of us including myself got out by the first word. The spelling bee lasted less than 10 minutes. I was trying to find a way to get out of history class but it didn't work out too well.
I'm a pretty good speller, but being on the internet, and it's lingo has made it a lot harder for me. I guess instinctually now, I type how it sounds, and don't pay too much attention to it, unless I look carefully. So sometimes, I'll have typed site instead of sight. And I thinnk one time I almost wrote lol on a paper I was writing.
