You know what freaks me out? When food is advertised by a cartoon character made from the very food he's hawking. Soem examples:

The Pilsbury Doughboy - to him, dough is basically flesh. He wants you to cook and eat flesh. Nice.

The Kool-Aid Man - Kool-aid is his blood, pretty much. Can you say VAMPIRE?

Ribenaberries: Vampire fruit! Argh!

The Michelene Man - not food, I know, but still gross. I mean, he's made out of tyres! He wants you to attatch body parts to your wheels! I'm reminded of Hector's death in the Illiad.

Oh, and I once saw a tablecloth with pictures of cartoon hotdogs squirting ketchup on themselves. Uuurgh...

I thought the worst one was Miss Piggy advertising for a Denny's breakfast that included sausage.

The hamburger twin from McDonalds are hamburgers, if that wasn't apparent enough for you. What are Ribenaberries? I've never heard of them in my life.

Aunt Jemima had some seriously disturbing ones: they were pancakes and waffles, I think. And the character designs just gave me nightmares for years.

Mrs. Butterworth's syrup bottles have always scared me. Where is Mr. Butterworth anyways? I think he's with Aunt Jemima. Mrs. Butterworth has the guy off the Quaker Oats box.

I can remember this very issue being tackled in an M&Ms commercial.

Some GQ looking fellow encounters the giant talking red, yellow and orange M&Ms eating bags of milk chocolate, peanut and krispy M&Ms, respectively. The human actor points out that their consumption of M&Ms would equate to cannibalism (though I'm not sure if the word ever comes up). In an effort to avoid being cannibals I suppoe, they all switch bags so that each M&M is holding the bag of a different flavor of M&Ms.

This deosn't involve cannibalism but it's kinda related. My brother did the coolest thing. He went into a supermarket and there was a chicken stand and it's mascot was a chicken all happy looking holding a sign for the stand. He said to the guy "Why is this chicken so happy people are eating his friends?" The next day he went in and the chicken picture was now all beat up with a cast and really sad.

I saw something similar in a supermarket. Over the potato section, there was a big sign with a smiling cartoon potato saying "Mash 'em, bake 'em, peel 'em, eat 'em - spuds, we love 'em!"

Dancing fruits and vegetables are always telling me to eat them... :D

Would the Jolly Green Giant qualify? He's green, so maybe he's half man, half vegetable.

Plato would say that these animorphic foodstuffs are just happy to be fulfilling their function in life.

Three words that make me happy to eat a cannabalistic character:

Twinkie the Kid.

(Hostess has a slew of cannabalistic mascots...yummmm....)

Then there's the Frosted Miniwheats with a different personality on each side.

OMG! That's hilarious. Fried up doe boys. That'd be even more funny if all of the sudden they started getting up and acted like zombies. The look on the Doeboy's face is a kodak moment.

This is the greatest thread EVER!

I loved the M&Ms spot with Patrick Warburton too. It was truly funny and Puddy walking away saying "That's just disturbing" cracks me up every time.

Didn't that commercial win the best M&Ms spot recently? They were doing a contest to pick the best ad and I saw that one again after a couple of years.

I remember that the Institute of Official Cheer had a feature with cannibalistic mascots :D

We can't forget Mayor McCheese, who was tragically consumed by the Hammurderer. Stabble stabble! :D
