Yes, unfortunately at around 11:00 P.M. EST last night, my cat Jonathan died at the age of 20. Of course, 1 cat year=5 human years.:( I'm gonna miss the little guy!
When I first got him in 1993, it took him a while to get used to me. Then, we became good friends ever since. I remember I would sometimes give him 2 nicknames: a "Sylvester lookalike" and an "MTM wannabe.":p However, he didn't get along too well with my bassett-hound, he would always hiss at her.
Sadly, this past week, he first stopped eating, then stopped drinking his water, then barely moved at all.:( He also couldn't close his eyes due to cataracts.:( Finally, as I mentioned, he died in his sleep.
Well, good-bye, Jonathan. I'll never forget you.:(

Oh..I'm sorry about your cat. I see you two had had some good times. Well, to brighten the mood, your cat is now in a good place.

You should get a pet snake, that would be cool.

Well that is sad. You have my condolences. Nonetheless, your cat did live a long and happy life with you and that's what matters.

Very sad my condolences. My mother found a cat in the woods (it couldn't walk or anything) last week she brought it home but it died that night.:(
*hugs*
I'm sorry to hear about Jonathan, he sounds like he was a good friend to you during the years you shared together and he was lucky to have you there for him. I hope he'll always live on in your memory :)

I was in the same boat, Viper. Right before I came home from college this year, my family put our 16-year old cat to sleep. He, too, woke up one morning and didn't eat or drink. This was the final nail in the coffin from a good TWO YEARS of him throwing up/peeing in the house and losing lots of weight (he used to be a fat cat, but in his later years he was lucky to be 10 pounds). So it was definitely time.
And oddly enough, I didn't cry for losing him. He was getting to be so much trouble to care for in his later years that we weren't doing him any favors by keeping him alive, and the writing was on the wall for a long time. The way I figured it, he had a darn good run.
But my first rabbit's death was a much harder loss. It came suddenly, so I wasn't prepared for the quick turn of events. He had a stroke and was unable to move his legs. He was 6 years old.
So yeah, it sucks to lose a pet. I'd recommend that once you're done grieving, you take a bit of time off, and buy a new one. I know that sounds uncaring, but I'm sure you'll love the new one just as much. :)

Sad to hear this.
Have you figured out how your cat is going to rest?
Bury him in the backyard? Cremate him? Stuff him?

I know you were joking about that, but don't you think that's a little cruel to be saying something like that to a person who lost a member of the family?

Seriously, some people really do have pets stuffed by taxidermists after they expire (they meaning "pets"). I have a little grey rabbit myself. ;)
Back to seriousness, I can only ever like one cat in this world at a time. Right now, that one is Idjit, a very dark tabby who is the son of my mother-in-law's cat Angel, who I can't stand........The CAT, that is!! :D Idjit used to do really dumb things when he was a youngster, hence his name. Anymore, he's wiped out the mice under the house and the starlings in our maple tree that hangs over our driveway. I got real tired of washing bird poop off the cars every few days! So Idjit has home as long as he wants to stay.

Heya, dude. My mom brought in a stray Maine coon on October 19, 2003, and our lives haven't been the same. According to his teeth, he's about four-years-old, and we're lucky, because he'll live longer indoors, and we brought him in early, before started to develop any disorders. We named him Absol Mewtwo (after two Pokémon), and he's really like part of the family -- almost like a baby brother... If we lost him, I'd ****ing go crazy, and my life, once again, would never be the same.
I can only imagine how you're feeling right now, because I have played out Absol Mewtwo's death many times in my mind, because I know he's going to die in about twenty years, and it haunts me.
There's no way you can replace Jonathan, and I know the memories of him will just hurt even more, but what can you do? Life goes on, and part of life is death, ****ing unfortunately. :( I hope you reply soon and let us know how you feel -- your fellow cartoon nuts are here for ya, man.

Please stop being horrible. It's hard enough to lose a pet. You may think you're being cute but you're not. Have some respect.
Viper, my condolences again.

That is just plain sick and disrespectful IMO.  I wonder how long it will be before people begin stuffing their deceased parents:rolleyes:

You guys have never heard of stuffing your animals lots of people do it. I don't think it's sick or disrespectful if that's how the person wants to remember their pet though I probably wouldn't do it myself.
and yeah this is the reason I dread getting pets. I almost lost one of my iguanas a little while back and I don't know what I'd do if I lost my dog.

Bury him in the backyard? Cremate him? Stuff him?I'm glad you asked that question. We'll have him cremated. My mom says it's better this way.
Unfortunately, we won't be getting any more pets. We still have a 12-year-old bassett hound.(1 dog year=7 human years.) When she dies, that'll be it. My mom doesn't want any more pets. She says it hurts too much to watch them die. I don't blame her.:(
Don't worry, everyone. I don't really get emotional. Even though it's still sad to see him go.:(

You should get a pet snake, that would be cool.Uh, sorry. Regardless of my TZ name, I'm not that type of person. I'm just a normal person who enjoys cartoons and video games. I chose the name because I like the woman on Jackie Chan Adventures. I just don't want you getting the wrong idea of what I might look like.
As for your response, we won't be getting any more pets once my bassett hound dies. Like I just said, my mom says it's too heart-breaking to watch them die slowly.:(
In my entire life, I've had 5 dogs, 3 cats, 2 hamsters, and one parakeet. Of course, I loved Jonathan the most.:( I'll miss him.

we all feel your pain. it's understandable that you won't be getting another pet. getting another pet after one dies doesn't feel the same way cause there's no way to replace a pet you love and lost. and btw, 1 human year is 7 dog years.

I'm very sorry for your loss. My cat is just over 19 years old, and I know I'm going to be a mess when she goes.

(Psa. 36:6b : "For the LORD redeems humans and animals alike.")
Viper, my sympathies to you. I lost mine a few hours ago. Took her to the vet thinking cat had a cold. Two hours later cat was gone. Died in her sleep, which was the best I could have hoped for. At this point I don't even know what was wrong.
Good kitty.
Many years ago I had to put a young cat, that I loved, to sleep..I share the loss with those who are in the zone who have had the experience of losing a pet..I am with you. I am sorry that I missed this thread last week Stuart
