I remember when I showed the Futurama extras to my friend on his Volume 1, he said he liked the deleted scenes but didn't like the commentary. Now that I'm watching Volume 3, I get to thinking:
Why doesn't Cartoon Network buy these deleted scenes and insert them into the episodes and market them as extended cuts? There are quite a lot of episodes with scenes cut out. The voices are there. The animation only needs to be cleaned up a bit. And all that's left to do is get an SFX guy in there. They could just get someone from Cartoon Network to do that like Glenn Oyabe. Maybe an orchastra if they wanted to go all out. I don't see why Fox would charge that much. And we know the ratings would be worth the price.

They don't have the airtime to do something like that.

Then nobody'd bother buying the DVDs.

The footage quality sucks and they're missing sound effects.

A lot of scenes that got cut weren't that funny, IMO. I think the amount of money and effort for adding another minute or two of footage wouldn't be worth it.

actually in a lot of those cut scenes the voices were imperonated by maurice lamarche, he does a very good job sometimes...excpet when he does Leela.
And dont diss the audio commentarys, they were cool:p

I like the commentaries, but I'm a huge cartoon fan. The average viewer just wants to see deleted scenes.

If they were the boring technically-focused commentaries that you see sometimes, or the "we don't know what to say"-type commentaries, then I'd agree that the general public might not like them. But these almost entirely made up of John Dimaggio and Billy West cracking everybody up with thier antics - what's not to like?

Yeah i remmeber the "Bend her" episode commentary.
Dimagio: Hey did i ever tell you guys about my idea for a sitcom? Its called Gay guy and the goast!
Lemarche: What? where did that come from?
Dimagio: Well a gay guy i lived with in a flatshare once said there was a ghost in the flat and i was welcome to get into bed with him if i was scared.
Lemarche: And you wanna make a sitcom out of that?
Dimagio: Yeah it oculd span lots of ep...hey do you think the viewers of this DVD are shaking the player right now and shouting " Hey! talk about futurama damn you!"
Everyone: *cracks up*
funny ****:D
