I watch the show on and off, and I want to know what do you think the element is that makes people keep coming back for more? Is it the scarcasm? Is it the quick lines? Is it the attitudes? Is it the silly plots? My friends love it and I'm STILL on the fence after three years. I'd like to know what is the main element that makes you watch.

It's the sheer rediculousness of it that makes it funny.

It's the bad guys. They make the show go round. Where would we be without Ignignort and Er? Or the Plutonians? Or Happy Time Harry? Or Moth Monster Man? Or the Trees? Or the Rabbot? Or Ronmilox? Or the Wisdom Cube? Can I stop now?

The bizzare premise and quotability.

Oh, and Carl, who's (semi) normalacy makes the odd things even funnier.

It's just a funny show. There's not one unlikeable character. And the premises can be so ridiculous, it's impossible not to laugh.

I think its just the humor and the characters and the INSANE randomness of the show.

A traditional sitcom mold in an atmosphere that says anything but sitcom. I think it's the mix of insanity and sanity that makes it work for me; yes, the show is off the wall with alien visits, talking trees, and Carl's mutilation of the week, but the show manages to do it all coherently. I think the famous quote of "Three's Company on acid" applies here.

The show is insane. Carl is cool. That's where all the goodness comes from.

Two Words: Master. Shake.
Man, I wonder how they come up with the dialogue, b/c half the fun is wondering what's Shake gonna say next.
I keep coming back to this show not because of the villains or the story, but because of the stupidly hilarious conversations between Carl and the ATHF.

There's not one unlikeable character. If you just mean the stars (Frylock, Meatwas, Shake, and Carl) then yes. But several of the villians have been painful to sit through. Romulax and the Wisdom Cube come to mind first but there may be others.

It's still the funniest show on TV though.

Dr. Weird, the Mooninites, and the Cybernetic Ghost of Christmas Past from the Future.

And yes, Carl too.

Yeah...pretty much what everyone else has said so far, plus how random it can be. As was said, it's weird but still coherent; well it can also be random but still stick to the plot. Example, from Cybernetic Ghost of Christmas Past From the Future, when Danzig is asking where the robot is and talking to Shake, and Shake goes;

"Not to get off topic, but have you seen how low the interest rates on mortgages are? It's a buyers market."

Little off beat things like that are hilarious.

When I describe this show, I relate it to Sienfild. ATHF is an animated sitcom about nothing.

Well, Master Shake and Inignot (:moon: ) have two of the funniest voice acting jobs ever.

Of all the Williams St. originals, it's probably the wierdest show. Whereas the others have "normal"/Hanna-Barbera adventure characters to spoof (which works brilliantly), in ATHF, the characters themselves are bizarre to begin with (with the possible exception of Carl).

And it has the best pair of villians :moon: :moon2: on the whole block, those b*st**ds :p ;)

I would say it's the off-the-wall stories and Shake's insults. He's like the new Don Rickles. No. Nobody can replace Rickles. But Shake sure is coming close. But not enough to surpass Triumph the Insult Comic Dog.

But not enough to surpass Triumph the Insult Comic Dog.
It'd be funny if Shake and Triumph would barrage each other with insults though.

The show is absurd. Absurd can be bad, but this is done in a good way. The writing and the characters really make the show, and it has a way of being unpredictable and off-the-wall that makes it so appealing.

I mean, what kind of show involves aliens that look like sprites from an old Atari game as well as absurd prologues with an old guy wearing a glass helmet and a strange dress?

I watch it because of its sheer stupidity.

Oh yeah, and Master Shake.

Well, I think it's all about balance. I mean, Frylock's a genius, and the only responsible one of the three. Shake's probably somewhat below average intelligence, but a total jerk and completely lazy and irresponsible. Meatwad is just an idiot. Alone, they wouldn't be funny enough. But, together, they're hilarious.

By the way, is it just me or does Shake die in a lot of episodes? How many times has he been killed so far?

I agree Master Shake makes the show, so do the Mooninites. I'm always looking forward to what Master Shake is going to do. He's funny and his laugh makes me crack up dead. he is the far most ghettoist character I've ever encounter and he acts like the people I know so that's what makes it funny because people actually have his personality (Lazy, doesn't pay bills on time, all that good stuff ya know.;) )

I was wondering myself who was the genius who made the dialouge. It's brilliant! I dunno, I'm sickly obsessed with that show. Oh yeah, you can't forget the 80's rock n roll obsessed, bald, fat guy, Carl.:moon:

I'm torn between Shake and Carl. Both drive the show on different occaisions, but honestly, without them ATHF is dead to me.

YOU HEAR ME! D-E-D dead!

Foghat rules. Whoever they are.

I'm not sure what it is that makes the show as funny as it is. I really think it's the writing. These guys are geniuses. I can't really think of any show that's doing anything like this. It's totally different, if you really look at everything else that you can watch, in terms of the style. Even Family Guy isn't as funny, just because it isn't all that original. I've never really seen a comedy like the Aqua Teens before. It's just such a bizarre approach to comedy that it just has to work. I would go so far as to say these guys are the Flying Circus of our generation (I'm 20).

It's an unpredictable show. That's the best way I can easily describe it. In ATHF, things that are totally unexpected happen like they're normal. The lines are also unpredictable, especially Shake's. All in all, it's just a very funny, unpredictable show.

I was the same way about ATHF at first. I didn't like it and yet I didn't hate it. The recent episodes and the reruns won my attention because of:

a) how warped the humor is. I mean, I do like Family Guy and it's brand of humor, but ATHF takes it a step further (maybe because FG was a network TV show and ATHF is a cable show). The only other show as warped as ATHF is SeaLab 2021, but the humor in that [SeaLab 2021] is black in the sense that there's humor in how the creator of SeaLab 2021 took a PC show and made it un-PC and slightly deranged.

b) the premise of the show seems like it was cooked up while under the influence of drugs, but in a strange way, it works.

c) It's unlike any other show I've ever seen (and that includes Futurama). If it were on network TV, it would be cancelled within a week.

d) These guys (:moon: :moon2: ), Master Shake, and Carl have the best lines and the writing is everything that everyone else has said about it: original, twisted, fresh, never dull, etc.

And that's why I like ATHF.

Like a six-car pile-up on 285, I just can'tnot watch it.

Master Shake iirritates me beyond belief, Meatwad is dumb as dirt and Frylock never gets any really good lines. Despite that, I find myself laughing at it from time to time. I don't know why and I'm frankly afraid to find out.

I wouldn't say it's genius, but it sure is inspired.

Well there are a few prospects that I know of at this time for why ATHF is most popular among most of us here at this forum, ever thought thier jokes and some thier nastyness has us laughting when certian things do not go right or in this case, also the bad mouthing in an odd way seems to be the reason too, but that is why I have gotten to like this series from when I decited to see in during the second season when Space Ghost Coast to Coast was airing new episodes that idecited to find out this series rocked from the start, although I never got a chance to see most of Season 1.

Well ATHF seems to be gaining in popularity more so now than ever. Might be able to carry the block with Family Guy and get Futurama bumped off.

But why is it good? Its simply the best written show on television. There is something completely coherant and original about all the randomness. Adult Swim has screwed a lot up, but they nailed it with this show.

I think the Seinfeld comparisons are apt, I can't really think of anything else the show resembles. Also, the fact that the intro hypes the show up as this hip, action-packed extravaganza is just really bizzarre considering what goes on most of the shows. There is a lot of absurdity, but a lot of wit too, and even a little bit of intelligence. The dialog is often just witty and in a casual, real-speaking kind of way.

Oh and the voice acting for Master Shake is brilliant. He's just the perfect epitome of every selfish whiner, yet his delivery holds some kind of everyman appeal. I also love the voice acting for the mooninites; it causes them to be jerks that are also very appealing in some sense.

Its the endings that make you want to watch it on and on. Every athf show there is always some sort of offtopic ending. Like when they wanted to bring shake back to life and at the ending a BOG chicken shows up and kills CARL and then Meatwad then says the stupidest thing eva. Its all about the endings
