Apparent Shakeup In the "Totally Spies!" Cast [Archive]

There's some talk of a shakeup in the cast of "Totally Spies!" for Season 3. Apparently, Katie Leigh will no longer do the voice of Alex. Instead, she'll be replaced by Katie Griffin (memorable for such roles as Nina on Braceface, Sailor Mars in the numerous Sailor Moon seaons/OVAs, among others) You can read a little bit about this change on Ms. Griffin's official web site's journal (http://www.katiegriffin.com/journal02082004.htm)

Now, I e-mailed Mr. Lamoreaux (the Head Writer for the series), and apparently, Katie Leigh is not the only cast member that will be leaving. Jess Harnell (the voice of Jerry) will apparently not be returning for a 3rd season either. No word yet on who his replacement would be. Anyway, that's all I know right now. I'll keep you posted if/when I learn more...

No Harnell? Ack! That ruins the show! The only thing that they could possibly do that would be better than Harnell would be to get John Cleese.

Hmm.. That's interesting news..

Hard for me to recollect since it's been awhile since I've watched Sailor Moon.. but I don't really see Sailor Mars as Alex.. Hopefully she makes an attempt to sound somewhat like the original VA.

Hmm.. Same with whoever they pick to voice Jerry.. This is going to be interesting, hopefully it won't be too drastic/noticeable of a change. :shrug:

Eh. At least the VAs are getting younger and closer to the age of the characters they play. :shrug:

So where's their recording studio anyway? Jen Hale is in LA (where she did the Cowboy Bebop movie), right? And Katie Griffin is in Toronto doing Knights of the Zodiac?

It's very Unlike you could Get John Forsythe (The Original Voice of "Charlie" From Charlie's Angels) to do Jerry, Discloner, after all He's either Retired.. or Dead..

Now that's a Thought Hyper Luigi, Putting the Comedic angle of John Cleese in as Jerry would be great.. I can see the Humor in that choice.. after all If Cleese Spouted "a Dead Parrot" it woudl be classic.. but then again.. eh who knows who they might get to Replace Harnell.

As for Katie Griffin, (Hmmm Sailor Mars Trapped in the Body of Alex..

(There could be a Story here, where Alex's Voice gets Changed by the Evil Sebastian (at least it would be interesting to see Alex And Jerry's Voice get changed in a Story (After all if they can switch Clover and Jerry's Personalities.. why not Just simply part way through an ep, just change voices).

(But instead of Being Able to reverse the Change, make it permanent..(So that would then explain the voice change over).

(Xada, you might want to pass that idea along to Mr. Lamoreaux, just for a Suggestion...) :D

and they say I don't have a Way to resolve things..Let a Talking Intelligent Coyote come up with the resolution!:D

Anyway, I can't see Katie Griffin as Alex. She's not a bad voice actress or anything, it's just that she doesn't sound cute or naive like Alex should. Ah well, at least it's only one of the spies that's being changed.

I'll miss Jerry's VA as well, but not as much as Alex's. Jerry's personality was more in his dialogue and actions rather than his voice. But still, I've gotten so used to him.

Farewell, Katie Leigh and Jess Harnell, *sniff* you will be missed.

As I really haven't seen Sailor Moon's dub too much, I can't speak for if Griffin is a good VA choice, but it sucks to lose Leigh. Any reason WHY Leigh and Harnell quit? Was it a contract dispute a la Simpsons, or did something else come up?

Apparently, there was more truth to "Alex Quits" than we first thought....

Anyone have any idea why they'd quit? Quite the shame it is.

I think I read somewhere that it's recorded in New York, but I could be completely wrong about that. They don't seem to list the recording studio in the end credits, which seems sort of strange... :shrug:

Edit: Regarding the replacements, I just hope Andrea Taylor doesn't leave. Or if she does, she gets replaced by an American. No offense, but it's been my experience that, but Canadian voice actors can do a lot of things... Accurately emulating a Southern Californian Valley Girl accent isn't one of them... :sweat:

On the TSPA.. David Michel mentions that the voices should sound pretty similar to the original ones. :)

Totally Spies ain't really my favorite show, but it's amusing, and like any kind of voice cast change, I dislike this development.

Hopefully the new voices will be good.

I more or less ment it as a joke, Hyper Luigi mentioned Cleese, so I thought I'd throw another name out there just for fun.

I however don't think the guys dead...or that obsessed with remaining retired. After all, if I'm remembering correctly he did do the voices for Charlie in the two Charlies Angels movies that came out in the past couple of years.

I don't really like it when VAs change, because then you have to get used to new voices. If only TikiChic were here to tell us about Jerry and his new VA.

I'd doubt it, since she wasn't the one who originally reported the news. I e-mailed the Head Writer and he doesn't know... On second thought, he might not really be in a position to know anyway (since script-writing doesn't necessarily involve casting decisions...) :shrug:

Nope, I don't recall Sam's VA, Jennifer Hale, on Sailor Moon.
IIRC, the only anime she's ever been in is the Cowboy Bebop movie as Elektra.

I don't know of any SM cast in TS.

True lostrune, and Jennifer Hale's Only other Role that I know of is on The Power Puff Girls (being she's Miss Keane and that Snooty Princess character).

I would have thought Season 3 was already made by now (the studio did promo Season 3 at the same time TS was debuting on Cartoon Network). As it was, Katie Griffen did mention her role as being in the context of being busy the past few months.

I wish her luck, but she has some pretty big shoes to fill...

Everyone, last night at the TSPA I found out that the new VA for Jerry will be Adrian Truss. Unfortunately, other than his work on Disney's Rolie Polie Olie, I have no idea what kind of actor he is. All I can say is, I hope he does a great job.

Oh yeah! I remember his voice (Adrian Truss) from Rolie Polie Olie... he voiced the Dad and Uncle Gizmo... Now that I think of it, he sounds a lot like Jess Harnell's (Jerry) voice! :D Only more, alive, maybe.

:eek: And *gasp* yes, i used to watch Rolie Polie Olie when staying home sick a few years back! Can you blame me? ;) It was disney channel... :rolleyes:

I'm still not sure about Katie Griffin (nina from Braceface), sounds nothing like Alex... but i'm hoping it will sound a lot like 'Britney' -voiced by Katie Leigh... they should have used Britney's voice for Alex.. :shrug:

Guess only time will tell.
I've heard that they're both quite similar to the original VA's. I guess we shall have to wait and see, though... :shrug:

i have 2 really good friends. kayli and christie and me. we used to joke back in november that we were totally spies. kayli is the redhead/ sam christie is blonde/clover and i am brunett/alex. recently we have had about 10 huge fights which ended with me leaving the group.... just like katie leigh. and as luck would have it my name is also katie.

wow. sailor mars as alex. no way. she cannot do alex. sailor mars has a temper and attitude and she was my fav sailor scout. theres still no way she can pull off alexs sweet innocent voice. and jerry is leaving too? oww man he WAS THE SHOW! season 3 is gona suck butt. :sad:
