Hey everyone,
I'm new here, but I wanted to know if any of you knew how we could get a hold of data telling us how the sales of Samurai Jack Season 1 DVD were doing. I gather like most of you, the sales of the Samurai Jack Season 1 DVD is directly correlated with how much attention the network will give the show in airing the final 4 eps, releasing the latter seasons, and even continueing the series. Is there any way of tracking it's sales? And what would be considered very succesful? I.E. Family Guy. I know here, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, My Circuit City recieved 6 box sets of the Season 1 DVD, and they all sold with in 24 hours. If that's any indication, then we may be in business.
Thanks for your time guys.

I don't think there has been any news or press release about it yet.

Since Cartoon Network rarely release videos, I'm not sure. Warner Bros. Home Video is in charge of the distrobution of the Samurai Jack set, so its up to them if they will send a press release out. Unlike a movie, its hard to know where to stop the counting. You looking for first week sales or something?

Studios don't typically report DVD sales figures, but VideoBusiness maintains a list of the Top 20 DVD Sellers each week (no figures though, just rankings). Unfortunately, their lists only go up to the week ending May 2nd. Hopefully they'll update in a few days.

Yeah, Ive run into the same walls when searching for anything that can assure me that in fact fans are purchasing the Samurai Jack Season 1 DVD. If I remember correctly, I heard of Family Guy's great DVD success through CNN. But I strongly doubt Samurai Jack has the same cult following. Only thing is, I remember reading emails from the Cartoon Network implying that if the DVD set did well in sales, then they would reconsider giving Samurai Jack a time slot, and be further motivated to release the latter seasons of the series on DVD. I'm just looking for any number that says sales have met or exceeded their expectations and the network is financially obligated to do the above.

As long as the first SJ box set doesn't bomb completely, I am pretty sure Cartoon Network are committed to releasing the entire series, but they could decide to drop extras and make the rest bare-bones to cut costs if the first set only does OK. Sort of like they are doing with the Batman Beyond DVDs.
I am pretty sure the show will return to TV at some point, regardless of how well the first set does. It will be interesting to see what they decide regarding airing the last 4 episodes in the US, though. It would make sense to make them DVD-only if TV ratings aren't great, or certainly to release them on DVD first, but the 4th set could be some time off. Sometimes it's good to be European :) Not that the last 4 episodes were all that great, but still...

Josh said what i was going to say: VideoBusiness is the biznatch.
Samurai Jack can't sell as well as Family Guy because only 5 copies of Samurai Jack have been shipped out across America. I hope Zim sells better cause it has more special features.

I mean it's another title they underestimated a la Space Ghost, Looney Tunes, Chappelle Show, and ATHF.
