The King and I
Airs 8 P.M. (et/pt) on May 7, 2004

Not based on the Peter Griffin production, though maybe if we're lucky there will still be a talking penguin.

Christ. The character designs alone are already ripping off no less than three Disney films.

I've heard so many bad things about this film. Too bad CN decided to show it.

One thing to say, I'm so glad I missed it. Sorry to some of you out there, especialy some of you who visit the Disney animatin forum, but this needs to be said. Disney animation pisses me off!

Saw about two minutes of it.

Hated said two minutes of it.:deedee: :deedee: :deedee: :deedee: :deedee: :deedee: :deedee:

Stank so bad, it should have been called The King and Odie.

Anna and the King of Siam with Jodie Foster and Lou Diamond Phillips, which I think was also released the same year as the animated King and I, was a much better movie. Even watching the original The King and I would have been more fun.

EDIT: Oops! My bad. That was Chow Yun-Fat as the king in the Jodie Foster movie. Lou Diamond Phillips was in the Broadway revival of The King and I.

But...this wasn't a Disney movie.

I saw about one fourth of it, then went out with some of my friends. Tell me, did they change the ending to make it more "kiddy friendly"?

Oh, yes.

In the play/movie, the King dies of a broken heart because he had disappointed himself and Anna in that he would never become anything more than a 'barbarian king.' However, at his death bed, he makes his son the Crown Prince the new ruler, knowing that his son will succeed in becoming the modern monarch he could never be. It also convinces Anna to remain in Siam to see to that promise is successful.

In the animated movie, the King seems to be dying after getting blasted by a rocket. In his 'death bed', he allows his son to do what he wants (like having a relationship with his step-mom; a revision of the romantic subplot from the original play) and to be the modern monarch he could not previously be. However, all this is ruined when it is revealed that the King was only playing possum so he could dance with Anna.

BTW, did you know that Rankin-Bass actually produced this movie? Perhaps using stop-motion animation might have brought a better opinion to the film.

At least there's one good thing that can be said about it: This is one of the few animated musicals whose songs could never be blamed as a flaw (even if the rest of the movie is of a lesser quality).

fridays seems like more of a 7-10 age demographic block every week. this movie makes it even worse.
