I've noticed over the years that everyone has a media collection -- even people who aren't known for collecting anything. I'm using the classical definition of "media" here -- any way to transmit or record information, be it text, audio, or video -- in any format, such as books, magazines, records, cassettes, LPs, CDs, VHS tapes, DVDs, floppy disks, hard disks, CD-ROMs, video games, etc.
So, what's in your media collection? I'm very interested in this subject. :) Of course, since it's my idea, I'll go first. Here is what I've got in my media collection:
-105 DVDs (and counting)
-12 VHS tapes*
-58 audio CDs**
-8 CD-ROMs for my PC (other than the OS)
-40 NES games
-25 Super NES games
-32 PlayStation games; 12 PlayStation 2 games (and counting)
-7 GameCube games (and counting); 6 Game Boy Advance games (and counting) {I have a Game Boy Player for my GameCube, but no Game Boy Advance, though}
-an entire bookshelf with about 60 books on it (mostly college textbooks and reference books, like an Atlas of World History, for example)
-a collection of my favorite magazines (mostly copies of EGM, The Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine, National Geographic, Maxim, Stuff, and The Sporting News magazines)
*Note #1: I used to have many more VHS tapes, but since the invention of DVD I have slowly sold or given away most of them over the years. Only these 12 remain (all 12 are recordable tapes containing episodes of my favorite TV shows -- mostly Batman:TAS, Superman:TAS, Justice League, and Batman Beyond, as well as the modern TMNT and the modern MOTU)
**Note #2: I used to also have a nice cassette collection, but since the invention of audio CDs I have slowly sold or given away all of them over the years.
***Note #3: I used to have a Nintendo 64 with 8 games, but I traded it in for a PlayStation in 1998. :)
I never throw away old media. I either sell it, or give it away to family or friends.
Your turn! :D
Additional notes: I'm not counting multiples of a single set as more than one. For example, Star Wars, Episode I: The Phantom Menace counts as one DVD, not two. (It's two that go together in a set of one.) Another example: Final Fantasy VII counts as one PlayStation game, not three. (It's all three disks that go together to make one game.) I'm also not counting the PS1, PS2, or GameCube games as part of my DVD or CD-ROM collection. (Would be redundant, and make my collection look larger than it actually is.) On the other hand, if a DVD Box Set is made up of more than one movie, then each individual movie counts. For example, my Indiana Jones DVD Box Set counts as 'three' DVDs. Finally, TV show DVD Box Sets count as one each in the DVD category, even though they contain more than one DVD. So, my Transformers Season 1 DVD Box Set counts as 'one' DVD on my list...
(Wow, this is more complicated than I thought it would be! :p )
