According to Cartoon Network, Adult Swim will go ahead and launch on Saturday (11 p.m.-2 a.m., ET/PT) with a line-up dedicated exclusively to top action-adventure and animé series.
Beginning Saturday, April 17, Adult Swim will air six nights per week. As part of the new programming strategy, Adult Swim, Cartoon Network’s popular late-night block of animated programming aimed at adults 18-34, will add four new action/animé series to its line-up this year.
“Action programming has been part of Adult Swim since we launched in September 2001,” said Mike Lazzo, Cartoon Network’s senior vice president responsible for Adult Swim. “With the popularity of series like InuYasha and Cowboy Bebop and the great new shows we’ve acquired, we decided to create an exclusive destination on Saturdays where fans can turn for the best animé.”
To kick off the new action block, Adult Swim presents The Animatrix on Saturday, April 17, at 11 p.m. (ET, PT). Springing forth from the world of the successful film trilogy The Matrix, The Animatrix presents nine original short animated stories directed by pre-eminent animé directors, including Andy Jones (Final Flight of The Osiris), Mahiro Maeda (The Second Renaissance: Parts 1 and 2), Shinichiro Watanabe (Kid's Story, Detective Story), Yoshiaki Kawajiri (Program), Takeshi Koike (World Record), Koji Morimoto (Beyond) and Peter Chung (Matriculated). Four of the nine episodes were written by Larry and Andy Wachowski, and all of the episodes are grounded in the world of the The Matrix.
The PR also points out the following:
•InuYasha - CN has picked up 52 episodes. New episodes will start Saturday, April 24th, at 11 p.m. (ET, PT), with a premiere each Saturday after.
•Wolf’s Rain - Cartoon Network has acquired 26 episodes of Wolf’s Rain, which begins Saturday, April 24 at 11:30 p.m. (ET, PT).
•Witch Hunter Robin - will air Saturdays as well as Monday-Thursday at 12:30 p.m.
•Case Closed - Joins AS in June.
•Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Starts up in October CN has all 26 episodes of the series.
Starting April 24th (the week after the block premeires) the schedule will go as follows:
11 - InuYasha
11:30 - Wolf’s Rain
12 - FLCL
12:30 - Witch Hunter Robin
1 - Trigun
1:30 - Cowboy Bebop
Premeire week will air the Animatrix shorts.
This was the way Adult Swim initially wanted to kick off their Adult Swim Action block, but about a month ago Cartoon Network's Marketing division told them a firm 'no', citing they didn't want to loose the children's advertising on the hours AS would take up.
Since then, AS.com has confirmed that the Saturday block will go ahead as planned and thanks all of the fans who expressed their dissapointment that it wasn't
Well I can truly say that is late breaking news but they decited to go ahead with it.
