View Full Version : Code LYOKO "Starts April 19th" TALKBACK (Are there even spoilers?)

Chad Bonin

Code LYOKO. Probably the most mysterious of the Miguzi launch shows (TMNT is well-known, Totally Spies is already on CN, and Teen Titans has been a hit), this is the official Pre-Talkback Thread to the series. A mix between ReBoot and Digimon (According to good 'ol Karl Olson), kids enter virtual reality to stop a virus from attacking Earth.

The series premieres on Miguzi on April 19th at... uh... can't remember right now.

Additional Info From William C. Maune:

This is the official description from Cartoon Network: "Code LYOKO – The series tells the adventures of a group of students who are the only ones who know that there is a parallel, virtual world called LYOKO."

Weird character designs... could be interesting. It's like Digimon crossed with Reboot and with no monsters... or something like that...

I hope they get better voice actors for the actual series.

Just posted my thoughts in the "What'll Miguzi's killer app be?" thread, not seeing this first. Oh well. Like I said - bar the large foreheads and strange voices, this seems to have a lot of potential to be a pretty sweet kid's sci-fi series. The pilot's trailer hints at a plot have me excited - I just hope they don't drop the ball at all. I'd sort of like a redub so I don't have to strain to understand what was just said, but I'll watch it whatever we get when it starts.

Wow... that trailer was awesome... until the CG scenes...

The animation and character designs were kinda' neat, I didn't have a problem with the voices like many others here did, and it really hinted at being a tad on the darker side... but, dang, that CG sucks...

Wow, judging from the pilots this show has some serious potential. Not bad at all.

Sounds like a Digimon ripoff(the description sounds so much like Digimon Adventure Zero Two it isn't even funny), but it might be pretty good.

As long as the series has better CGI (a LOT better CGI...), then it should be pretty good.

Was the kid with the pointy blond hair and the dog a girl or a boy? I think it was a girl...

UberMonkey
03-10-2004, 08:06 PM
I'm pretty sure that kid ("Odd" as I recall) was a girl. Especially looking at what I think is her LYOKO persona.

So, there's one change from the pilot - Xanadu/Zanadu is LYOKO now.

Pronounce it like the Japanese pronounce "Ryoko."Doesn't "Ryoko" have that "ry" consonant sound that doesn't exist in English? Since that sound doesn't exist in French either (I think), I doubt it's the proper way to pronounce "LYOKO".

Duke

I pronounce it the same way people pronoune "Ryoko" except with an L instead of an R.

Hello , I found your forum on Code Lyoko and I think I can answer you about some questions. Yes , I'm french ( so please excuse the bad grammar  ) and I saw several episodes of CL actually. I really enjoy ... :D But first , you must know it's not at all like Digimon , that's not the same story and it's 10.000 times better . Besides , about the prononciation well , I'm not sure , because I haven't got the right accent ( that's my teacher who tells that  ) but I think you're right , it's LEE-O-KO. And finaly , Odd is definetly a boy , not a girl :p ...
That's will be all , I hope I haven't done much spelling mistakes ( ) that's really good cartoon network bought CL , you will enjoy it , in france its seems to have fans . We have a forum ( in french of course ) where we can speak with the 3 scenarists , nice persons who answer our questions :) .

Nice to hear from someone who's seen the show. I doubt you can be right about better than Digimon(only about 10-15 series in the world have ever managed that feat, and I strongly doubt this is one of them), but it sounds like it should be a good series.Just wondering, how many episodes has it aired over in France?

Hello , I found your forum on Code Lyoko and I think I can answer you about some questions.

Welcome to the Toonami/Miguzi board! We've had people from throughout North and South America on the board and a few British folks, but I believe you are our first French visitor. Thank you very much for the Code Lyoko information! It can be hard to find a lot of advance information about new European cartoons here in the United States. All we really know about is Molly Star-Racer, which still seems to be almost two years away.

Finally, your spelling and grammar were great! I wouldn't have known that English wasn't your first language if you hadn't mentioned it.

Only 26 episodes ... :( I've seen 10 ... But they may make a second season , but we're not sure ... As you can see , except the antefilm site , there is no official site or fan site ... That's weird ...
But about Digimon , I can assure you that's not at all the same. Digimon's really commercial , with episodes and episodes and episodes ... CL is more "traditional" and really more worked , ( and the characters are more mature , that's more interesting  ). CL is more humble , if you prefer . I think , for exemple , it wasn't first destined to be exported to america etc ( of course i'm not sure )... However I hope you will like it :anime: .

I doubt you can be right about better than Digimon(only about 10-15 series in the world have ever managed that feat, and I strongly doubt this is one of them)I dunno, you'd be surprised at the amount of shows better than Digimon... coming from a guy who actually enjoys Digimon.

KuwabaraTheMan

Personally, I think Digimon was a huge achievement. A good combination of action and drama. Plus, most of the tunes in it rock. "Butter-Fly", "Target","The Biggest Dreamer" etcetera. I think Digimon represents a combination of a lot of different factors that only a select few others have achieved.

But I'm looking forward to LYOKO.

Don't worry , it has been getting much better ( they changed it , like they changed several things you can saw on the trealer ). We can even speak of a pretty result.

Anyway, is the series episodic - that is, does each episode have it's own story (like how Pokemon usually works) or is it one full, continuous storyline (like most anime series) where it's all multi-part episodes?

Consider this: the east coast of USA (Eastern Time) is 5 hours behind (-5) Greenwich Time in England. Excluding Maine, the US mainland has 3 more timezones: Central Time (-6 hrs), Mountain Time (-7), and Pacific Time (-8).

Ok thanks for having explained the meaning of CG and for the time difference. So if i'm not too bad in calcul ( sorry i sucks in maths ... ) it's about 10am-1 pm o'clock when it's 6 pm at home ... *weird*
To answer your question about the episode yes , it's mainly episodes with their own story . French productors don't seems to like full storyline episode whereas the public seems to appreciate very much ... Too bad ...

Anyways it seems poeple from the french forum are watching what we say so i better have to be careful lol  ...

Nicoluve from the french forum wanted to tell you something so there is his message :

"The story of Code Lyoko: in the vitual world called Lyoko, only the beautyful Aelita resists to the tyran XANA, machiavelic artificial intelligence. When four kids discover the supercomputer who allows communication between Earth and Lyoko, they join their forces to help Aelita. But now they will have to fight XANA in both real and virtual world.

The real world's graphic style is a classic anime style, but the graphic style in Lyoko is a new generation 3D style. If you want some previews, you can find some wallpapers on this site:
http://to3.france3.fr (http://to3.france3.fr/)

Nothig like Digimon. A Matrix's kid-version would be a beter definition.

Don't say "I dislike it" before seeing a few episodes. If possible, don't miss ONE episode. "

That's all.

Hmm, that trailer(ish thing) looks a lot better CG wise. Looks like they have gotten a solid find in Lyoko. It's reminicent of a Nickelodeon show (large cast of kid aged characters,) but certain elements definetely seem very Toonami/CN (action, dark story, etc.)

Have to say, this is an amazing cartoon.

HEADS UP : In my description, there are a few spoilers. Nothing major - most of it will be discussed during the first episodes, but I thought I ought to warn y'all. :)

I am indeed new to this board ( and this will likely be my only post, as well ), but I thought Code Lyoko deserved a heads up. The graphic style in itself is pretty... well, different. It's a love or hate situation, I guess. CGs are fine, but nothing mind-blowing, either. I think what makes it a good cartoon is the fact that since it is based around the fact that entering the "Code Lyoko" basically turns back time to the events that happened before the last attack from the hostile artificial intelligence, some pretty mature themes can be discussed; such as death or love.
The fights during the CG are on a video game style; ie, the characters are "virtualised", and possess a sum of hit points. If they lose all their hit points ( haven't watched all the episodes, but I'm sure it must happen at one point ), they are knocked out of the game and must wait a long time to re-enter, thus basically making them useless for the rest of the alert.
Since I didn't see the first episode, I'm not exactly sure about how the characters came to be, but I remember the blond guy with glasses always talking of a way to have Aïlita materialize "like they had" ( by the way, he is in love with her ) - so it's likely that they all have at least some degree of connection to the virtual world.
All in all, some really great work. Didn't think a French Studio had it in them. I really hope a second season is in the works. Anyway, enjoy.
