View Full Version : SVES Talkback: Teen Titans - Winner Take All (Spoilers)

Killtacular

Season 2 (which is really just the second half of season 1 because the initial episode order was 26) begins as Robin, the lesser experienced but sturdy leader of the group, Cyborg, the brawns and style, Starfire, teh n00bz with teh b00bz, Beast Boy, the somewhat cocky, somewhat panicy shape-shifter, and Raven, a person you don't want to get near, form an elite group of something or others, who fight adults-- er I mean, fight evil before bedtime-- er I mean... they...do........ something.

Tonight's plot: Cameos fight to the death. Like a CBS reality show.

Why do you keep saying this is second half of season 1, even if the initial episode order was 26? Teen Titans was commissioned for four seasons, adding up to 52 episodes. That's 13 episodes for each season. So this is the normal season 2. Right?

Killtacular

It's just something I copy+paste, dude. At Comic Con 26 episodes were committed at the time. Though it's possible they extended the order while season 1 was nearing completion, the fact that season "2" began airing only 3 months after season 1 finished, is very suspect.

is this before or after terra joins up with them?

I believe Betrayal was originally supposed to run before this, but they've held off that and the last 3 episodes until may or June.

i guess that explains why a 5 on 5 instead of 6 on 6..

TT is based off shonen anime, cause Shonen's always have some sort of Tournament...right?Hope it's good....but gurateed a "won't top DT" feeling lies deep within.

Yet again, here is the real story - THE INITIAL ORDER WAS FOR 13 EPISODES. Season two was ordered shortly after the storyboards were finished on Season 1 (a week or two after Comicon), so there was some overlap. But the network only ordered thirteen episodes for the first season, and didn't order more until a few episodes had already aired. I don't know where you got your information, but it is false. If there were two seasons ordered, don't you think there'd be even LESS of a gap between the two seasons? As in, none?
It's just something I copy+paste, dude.
So how's about you change it, then? Seeing as it's wrong. Even if you're uncertain about what's true and what isn't, why post potentailly false information repeatedly?

At least you got the title right this week.

I wanna see Speedy more often in the third season...Arsenal's pretty cool in the comics, anyway.

nice card game. go fish, indeed, starfire :D

yeah.. since when is gizmo a hero? and why aren't the girls invited? they're heroines, that's female heros, aren't they!??!

and where did the human flash come from? hehe

it's nice to see gizmo get a return appearance.

boy, didn't aqualad run from those arrows. i bet sharp metal beats quantum entanglement any day.

i don't believe beast boy was up to skunking wilderbeest. nice job.

drowning your opponent. only toonami, HAHA. :D

hard to wrestle your opponent when he keeps growing on you.

wasn't that guy on the superfriends or something? did bad things to the losers anyway.

robin looks so sleepy.. and cyborg looks so wierd when he called out and all his cybernetics came out.. ..

outside your calling plan. only in the new millenia. robin's head sure rotated...

that hand sure had a nice take. i hope sampo's getting the screenshots going on.

i wonder if wildebeest has anything to say..

nice boxing glove fist arrow, hmm. i wonder if green arrow is somewhere in the dcau?

bo vs arrow. hm.

boy, that guy has a lot of hands he stole.. . i guess he got something real rearwise handed to him.

oh, so now the girls get to fight? who was their 4th friend, huh? might it have been jinx? almost screams for a continuation we're not getting.

a great episode , of so many.

i win,

But Robin, if you didn't care about winning but rather saving your friends, then how can you save your friends without wanting to win? :p

Not alot of the girls tonight, BUT since Rav and Star did get that one ep to themselves while the boys were puppets, this makes things equal.

And besides, that part at the end was pure gold :D

I guess a Mortal Kombat parody had to show up sooner than later, complete with the mutli-powered final villian.

The Hot Wheels commercial with the dummies was disturbing. "Look kids, crashing cars without wearing your seat belt is FUN...?"

Let's see, being a fanboy, I would rather have seen eight chicks fight it out than Speedy vs. Robin and six other guys who don't matter. Just needed to get that out. Speaking of which, is that supposed to be a cliffhanger...?

Highlights of "Winner Take All":

Positives:

Jim Cummings as the Master of Games.

Beast Boy's vision of winning.

The montage of Robin and Cyborg at night.

The final battle between Robin and the Master of Games.

The twist ending with Terra.

Negatives:

Gizmo. Why was he there??

Not enough Robin and Starfire.

Out of 5, I give it 4.

So Terra IS in this episode!

Yet with only a five second cameo scene...

Anyway, yet another tournament style fighting ep,so of course it was cool, yet predictable that the tournament "holder" would be the badguy. And,as is usual with anything DC related, people without powers = GOD.

Seriously, the sheer amount of gadgets speedy and robin possess confounds me.One wonders why Cyborg, who is actually mostly machine himself, has less weaponry.

That was my favorite episode of TT. I never though I would see one out match Mad Mod, but I was wrong. Those were the best fight scenes I've ever witnessed on the show.

Something still bugs me about the ending. Did Aqualad get another TT communicator or did he turn down the first one?

I'd also like to make a request of a screen shot when all of the female heros were warped in. I thought I saw a shadow of Super Girl and one of the Wonder Twins.

BTW, how come the "MASTER" had to use the tournament to get the losers? Yeah, I know, it was an excuse for the tourny, but I guess you COULD argue that they have to battle like you have to battle to get the God Cards in Yugioh-which is ANOTHER excuse to fight ;) I love both shows, DB's, and Hakushow BTW.

EDIT: Oops, sent my message earlier without finishing. If its a bother, just erase the first one

Well, this was one of those wacky filler episodes, as we all expected. I mean... logic is pretty much flown out the window. :) I'm not sure what to think of it.
+ Liked the ending. I was wondering why there wasn't any girls in the tournament..
+ Fight between Robin and Speedy was pretty good.
+ Aqualad got... BEAT DOWN! Mwuahaha.
- Come on. Raven should of tried to track them down if they suddenly disappeared! It was cute seeing Star wait next to the phone anyway, lol.
- Some of the deformations I did not liked.
- Yeah, that's right. Go ahead and talk to yourself about your own evil plan, Game Master.
- How did the guy get out of the gem thing... he just can?
? Gizmo is confusing me. Is he still in the HIVE? Did he quit it or something? He never mentions it.

Um... 3/5.

Great episode. Nothing but fighting all around. I love the part where Robin was mad that he lost to Cyborg(His facial expression reminded of Zim for some reason....) and made that theory on Cyborg making him tired before the fight. Speedy is almost like Robin. I loved the fight between them. Speedy's only disadvantage was that his weapon is meant for long range but he was able to pull it off. It was nice of Robin of giving eveyone(even Gizmo!) TT communicators. Battle of Heroines was a nice(and funny) touch at the end. Terra showed! Yay!! :D But who were the other girls? All I saw was their shadows.(They should at least put in Jinx) A

Cool!~Gizmo having his own communicator
Gimme that! You're not a hero!~Cyborg takes Gizmo's communicator< That was so funny!

Actually, since McDuffie wrote the episode, I think he was having an out of body experience. When he picked the music he was thinking Static Shock, and when he brought the girls in at the end, he was thinking of the pointless, unnecessary, and downright illogical cliffhangers he throws in for Justice League. Gotta take a vacation, my man, that ink is starting to get to the brain...

And there are chances they may not continue with the new episodes for about months on end, and this also means probbly untill late summer early Fall premiers, and that is just down right bad that they have to give us these cliffhangers and then we have to wait a long long time before any new episodes will be released this includes this series and Ed, Edd, n Eddy, I hate waiting.

The episode was good, but I'd rather see the girls fighting. Then again, the only girls they have are Jynx, Raven, StarFire, and Terra, unless they get some more cameos from the TT comics. Aqualad seemed like he was just there for the heck of it. And if Batman can beat the Justice League, then of course Robin can be the champion!

Man that got/has me laughing. Why would he do something so idiotic?Overall this episode was best for it's fights, that didn't come close to Hakusho's or Recca's,but was great compared to the rest of TT's fights themselves.I would rather have had Mumbo than Gizmo.......

He's starting a collection.

Robin's kinda liberal with handing those things out, though...he probably gives 'em to the pizza guy when he stops by the Tower. I can understand Speedy, but giving Gizmo one was dumb, and Robin had pretty much just met Hot Spot and Wildebeast...how does he know they aren't evil? (I think Wilde is in the comics...)

I would rather have had Mumbo than Gizmo.......

This was another great episode. I loved the matchup shots. The whole episode felt like a fighting game.

Jim Cummings will always be the 'mystery' voice for me. Every time I hear his voice, I never make the connection. I'm always like, 'I know I heard him before! Who IS that?'

Nice ending, too.

Ick, didn't care for this episode. None of the new characters were cool and Robin was just acting like a pompous prick. Was there anyone clamoring for Aqualad's return? Why did he come back? I knew there wasn't going to be a story, so I was OK with it, but it still annoyed me how cliched it was. Some of the fights were pretty cool though- they better be, since it's all this episode had to offer in the first place. Obviously, we didn't get enough of the gals. It seemed a bit strange that they didn't bother to find out what was going on, especially since the guys stayed overnight at that palace.

The next new episode can't come soon enough.

Cyborg was grand in this episode, showing why he's the most underrated character of them all. It's strange how him and Gismo of all people can have a little rivalry.

And the card scene was funny with all of then despite poor drawings of both Starfire and Beast Boy's eyes [O.D on the blackness]. I may be the only person so far in this thread that didn't like the ending as much, but hey, it does make you think instead of the boys telling the girls what happen even though I would have liked the latter.

Even though no preview of next week so far, everybody and their moma will be seeing what will happen with Terra. [got a little too excitied there]

Great MK-style music. Speedy rocked..but why Speedy if his power is like Green Arrow's?

Great ending twist.

Alright Just got done watching Winner Takes all and I have to say, it's one of those Middle of the Road Episodes, and the final minute is what KILLED it from being a Great Episode..

First off I Loved the idea of a Card Game Opening..(and where Was Terra? Not in this show (until...) but that comes later...

Alright I can see 7 of the 8 people in this group fitting in, the Odd Hero out was of Course Gizmo..(Hey Wait, Doesn't he work for the Hive? I thought so..)

but the fight scenes were really Mortal Combat and in fact reminds me of that one game they have over at www.cartoonnetwork.com (http://www.cartoonnetwork.com/) on the Teen Titans Webpage..(Teen Titans Battle Blitz..)

but Come one Let's get back to the fight at hand.. We watch as we see the first round and sure enough Beast Boy Gets Beaten..(figures.. Just like that One Raven Episode, the Funny Guy was indeed the First to go)

but when we finally figure out the scheme of things here, we call can see what the plot REALLY is.. very well done..

but finally when the episode was finally resolved.. this is where it ALL Fell flat.. (Bring Star and Raven, and Repeat the series again!) (They should have made it a Cliffhanger of Sorts or did a Follow up on this!)

Frankly this was a Great show until the last few moments when the Guys go home and the ladies are brought in.. (this should have been left with a "To Be Continued " scene or something to that nature..) or maybe at least given us some fight scenes..(which makes me wonder why the Master of Games didn't just suck the WHOLE group in (and made it 16 Contestants, 8 male, 8 female (just like some sort of Mortal Kombat idea) and let them all duke it out..) (would have been more fun to see Star or Raven Going up against Robin then just Speedy..(or perhaps a Tag Team Match..)

Anyway, I give this one 3 out of 5.. it's not bad, in fact the dynamics and actions are great.. but leaving it TOTALLY unresolved and starting the whole thing again with the girls, is a bit left undesired..(I take 2 points off for that..)

so hopefully next week, things will be better...

When I saw the previews for this episode, I thought I wouldn't like it. And guess what? I was right. Robin once again shows why he's the most irritating member of the team, by being an egotistical jerk, but more of one in this episode than in any other. Raven and Starfire didn't have any purpose whatsoever, which was a pain... I mean, couldn't they just get a small little subplot? No. Instead we get to see the return of the "snot-crud-snot" king, Gizmo, and AquaLad, as well as some other boring new characters. Woo hoo  . Beast Boy was funny, but he wasn't n the episode for very long, and Cyborg was pretty good as the voice of reason, but Robin fouled up everything, simply by being his irritating old self. This is quite possibly as bad as the Red X episode, which, not surprisingly, all about Robin, too.

It was an ok episode. Finally got to hear the japanese version of the opening. I liked the card part in the beginning. Robin's paranoid detective thing was funny, also liked Cyborg's little rant as he's walking away. :D

I have no opinion on the ending, I see where he was goin' with it though.

Argh. That ending was so lame. Why? Pretty decent ending, and then RANDOM UNNECCESARY CLIFFHANGER!

Overall, the episode was kind of fun. That card game at the beginning actually looked interesting. Lots of cameos, which I guess I'm indifferent about, but the fights were pretty slick. Master of Games was an alright villian. I'm not really sure what he would've done with Robin's powers anyway. Throw disks with a gorilla hand?

I'd give it a B, mostly for the fighting.

Boooyaaa, Cyborg beats Robin at cards. Winner does take all in the Master of Games contest among these young champions.

That card game the Titans in the begining was hilliarous. The fight scenes between the contestants were fun to watch. Especially the show down with Speedy and Robin. Great fight, but once Robin got within melee range it was pretty much over. Beast Boy and WildeBeest match was kinda of a let down as WildeBeest spent most of the time trying to grab our little Teen Titan.

Favorite Moments. Various expresions dones by all the characters in this episode. Beast Boy asking about the prizes (http://home.hawaii.rr.com/wizardgrey/images/Teen%20Titans/PDVD_045.jpg)... Cute... Beast Boy dreaming of a moped (http://home.hawaii.rr.com/wizardgrey/images/Teen%20Titans/PDVD_047.jpg). Cyborg phoning home (http://home.hawaii.rr.com/wizardgrey/images/Teen%20Titans/PDVD_105.jpg). Gizmo ecstatic over his gift from Robin, just to have it snatched away by big Cyborg.

Moments that made me dislike this episode: Robin being gullible. The Master of Games being soo lonely so he rants to himself about his diabolical plans. People thinking that the ending is a cliff hanger...

....

I don't think there would be enough time to have 16 contestants duke it out in the 1/2 hour time slot alloted. Even if they did, the fights would be pretty short.

It would have been nice if they showed Raven and Starfire try something to find the guys. But again I don't think there was enough time unless they hack off some of the fight scenes.

...
- Come on. Raven should of tried to track them down if they suddenly disappeared! It was cute seeing Star wait next to the phone anyway, lol.

...yeah.....I really don't like Robin. A non-superpowered sidekick shouldn't be that good........at anything(not just talking about this ep). I'll always dislike TT Robin for the simple fact that he could beat up JL Batman with his Spiderman-like speed and agility:rolleyes:.

But thats neither here nor there.

I wanted anyone but Robin to win the Tourny....Robin exposed for the cybergenetic/horrible mutatation/immoral science experiment freakshow that he is....then blown up in a gruesome laser jet printer accident.....but noooooo...can't give ol' Redi what he wants can you? Jerks.

Umm, EVERYONE in the TT universe has Spider-man-like speed & agility. Robin seems to use it more than most because he doesn't fight long-distance as much as the others do and he's a martial artist.

Besides, JL & TT aren't in the same universe. It's kinda like Tenchi Muyo...

One of them is Wonder Girl. The one with the spiky hair looks more like Starfire's sister judging from the shape of her body. The shadow between Starfire and Terra I don't know.
I assume you mean the one between Terra and Raven? I dunno, I guess it could be Wonder Girl.

However, I think it's more likely that none of the shadows are intended to be anyone. They're more likely just generic shapes made to fill things out. If they had intended it to be Wonder Girl or Arrowette or something, that means they were probably intending to use that character in Season 3, and thus would have a character design for them.

Oh man, I shut off this episode when it went to commercial because Terra wasn't in it. And now I found out that Terra WAS in it? Crap. Well, actually, I shut off this episode because I needed to do a beer run, but that's beside the point.

Not much of a plot... at all. But it was funny and actiony. 5/5
...weird how they all became "honorary" titans so easily and Terra had to work hard... Oh well

Gizmo seems to show up more then Jinx or Mammoth......

It may not be a cliffhanger in the sense that it's not the type of ending that would lead up to the next episode, or that it has "To Be Continued," but rather in the way that it leaves things unresolved, and poses new questions in the last 15 seconds. Of course you have to assume that the girls do more-or-less the same as the boys, because by next episode everything will be fine. The "Here we go again"-type ending just seems really, really lame to me. Someone mentioned Mighty Max earlier - while it did go back to the beginning at the end, it was an act by Max to try things again, and that provided the resolution of the story. This ending just basically made everything that had happened up to that point seem to be for nothing.

Well, I guess I just didn't like it. You can, that's fine. But I'm pretty sure the term "cliffhanger" fits.

i wonder if that dude had ace the bathound, krypto, streaky, and some of the other animal sidekicks in a contest, as a test... before the hero dudes from titans and elsewhere collided...

sure looks like he had merged with some animals even before he got all those heros to fight each other..

and i'm not beyond thinking sinestro, darkseid, etc was in the one after.. but since myxlptlk got involved, it was game over for the dude.

just some thoughts while i try to make some sense of my life, by uploading files to somewhere that shouldn't have lost them in the first place. mmm.

Well the epiosde wa OK. But the end I rather would of chose as an epiosde. It would be interesting to see the titan girls go aganist each other. Guys are more of the video games or game types. It would of been an AWESOME episode if it were the girls. And in the end how did that 'Master of Games' guy come back? The action was great and everything, but you could tell robin was gonna win. I wasn't expected Aqualad to lose in the first round when I saw the comercials. But since he went against speedy, and speedy seems to be friedns with robin,so go figure. But everything else was cool. They didn't show Terra at the beginning, nor the theme song. Well i gave the epiosde a ****

I thought it was a pretty fun episode. I had to laugh at the ending, though I was wondering where the Master of Games came from again. Oh well, it was fun. The card game in the beginning was funny. Overall, good fights and just plain fun.

"Winner Takes All" gets a 4.5/5

Something still bugs me about the ending. Did Aqualad get another TT communicator or did he turn down the first one?
I believe he turned down the first one.

I believe he turned down the first one.
I can't remember that far back... (what DID I have for lunch today? ) but if he is anything like AquaMan, I wouldn't dobut it.

But if a DVD was available (thats a hint, Warner Bros.) I would be able to tell you for sure.

Well let's say, the Raven fans are not that happy that Aqualad is making the girls fall in love with him and stuff, yet it is like that.

And that's why the Game Master didn't hold a combined heroes+heroines tournament: Aqualad would make the girls go gaga! :anime:

Pretty good, although the ending was a bit disappointing.

An average 7/10 episode. The fights were pretty good and the cameos were cool. I was kinda hoping at least one of the match-ups would have been between two Titans. But I guess that would have been a bit unfair. Robin can take on his entire team so a fight against one of them would be over pretty quick. The ending was funny, and left me wishing it would be continued in another episode.

I'm suprised that no one's brought up Aqualad's new water powers. I guess the writers realized that talking to fish is an extremely lame power(and one that would have been entirely useless in this ep). I don't know that much about the comics, so maybe his powers differ from Aguaman's?

Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing in my "Winner Takes All" Review:

We open with the Titans playing a friendly yet competitive game of cards, Starfire is her cute clueless self, and Cyborg picks up the surprising upset over Robin. Then we have the Japanese Teen Titan intro. (Teen Titans!) The male titans get warped over to this mysterious local, where other heroes are, it comes out they brought their by the Master of Games, who if you aren't paying attention sounds a lot like David Keith, but Corrado says he isn't the VA... Anyway, all the heroes are pitted in one on one battles tournament style and Robin ends up winning.. But what becomes of the losers you ask? Well apparently the Master of Games had been absorbing the losers into the jewel he used to bring them to him, thus he had access to their powers. Robin takes him on, and using his unstoppable fighting skills since he was taught by the Big Bad Bat of course. ;) Robin frees everyone and they all are made honorary Titans.. including Gizmo, to which Cyborg quickly takes back the Titan communicator from him. They all go home, and then the surprise ending where the Master of Games is up to his old tricks.. excep this time it's the female titans (Including Terra!) and it's the Tournament of Heroines! Great action packed episode, with a dash of humor and character introductions. I give it an B+.

How do we know he didn't have them in Deep Six? The only times he wasn't in the water was when he & BB were fighting the Trident army (where there were too many to fight) and at the end when everything is resolved.

Tempest, the adult version of Aqualad, has water-control powers.

I wasn't able to watch cable last weekend, so I saw this episode just now... Anyway, this was an all-right episode, but with the whole "tournament scenario", was pretty predictable. Even more predictable was the fact that Robin was the ultimate victor...

Cool episode:D . Liked how it played out like a videogame.
Even though I know the ending is a gag ending, but I still wouldn't mind seeing the Contest of Heroines as an episode.:p
