Bush Family Dog Spot Put To Sleep (http://www.local6.com/news/2864814/detail.html)

WASHINGTON -- President Bush's dog Spot, the 15-year-old English springer spaniel who had remained eager to please despite increasing health troubles, died Saturday.

Bush and his wife, Laura, went along with a veterinarian's recommendation to put Spotty, as the longtime Bush family pet was known, to sleep, according to White House spokesman Allen Abney. She had suffered a series of strokes recently, including one this week, he said.

Spooot!

Poor girl, I feel incredibly bad for Bush and his family. It's said when someone dies.

You know, I do feel sorry for the guy. This just feels like a particularly lousy time for it to happen.

I just hope the media doesn't drown any human worth in this little emotional interlude with deadening insipidity and schmaltz.

Man, what a crappy week this has been. My favorite toy line has been cancelled, Disney bought (and will surely corrupt) the Muppets, I got a double migraine on Wednesday, sap dripped all over my brand new car and now the president's dog is dead. I'm just gonna go curl up with a good stiff drink.

I don't know why this is hugely newsworthy, but...it's always sad when a pet dies. I almost feel more sympathy towards innocent animals than most people I'd never know. Go figure how that works. But hey, any dog that lives 15 years is a pretty good life; I had to put my dog down earlier this year and he nearly reached 8 years old.

Just remember the old addage, all dogs go to heaven. They do. :)

...but if you touch that watch you'll never be able to come back, unless of course you help a little orphan girl.

As a fellow dog lover, I feel bad for him. :( Poor dog, poor Bush. (I'm only saying this as a dog lover. )

15 years is a very good, long life for a dog to live. :)

It's sad to hear this about Bush's dog. It's always unfortunate when a family loses their pet.. 15 years sounds like a pretty good life though (i don't know what the life expectancy of dogs is), I hope she didn't suffer too much.

Yeah, but how much can be said about a pet dying before it gets really insipid and so bitterly insincere that it becomes a mocking parody of human emotion?

Yeah, but how much can be said about a pet dying before it gets really insipid and so bitterly insincere that it becomes a mocking parody of human emotion?Very true. It's sad in a way. I enjoy Gallows humor as much as anyone in the Criminal Justice sytem...(After watching a few autopsies, I can't imagine anyone not doing so while retaining their sanity.)

But... those just seemed mean. And while I know that there is an undying political battle going on here... it just seemed uncalled for. it's like people are thinking:

"Wow, no one said the obvious yet crude thing to say yet... YAY! now I get to be both obvious and crude.

When I hear that someone's pet has died, it's sad.

In the great scheme of things, this is so minor that it doesn't matter. But the posters that chose the "Insipid Option" may have lost some respect of others.

(at least, that's how I feel. I don't know why. Blame it on my upbringing.)

So, consider this to be a VERY minor notice about not being crude in the Cafe.

It is very sad when a pet dies, and even sadder that the tiny bitter & twisted voice inside my head thinks conspiracy and that the dog has either been relocated or snuffed out to gain sympathy votes.

Totally not true of course, just the evil lil voice inside my head talking, it gets out now and again.
