View Full Version : Not So Sweet Dreams

Anyone here good at analyzing dreams (or just wants to laugh)?

Okay, my dream is: It's the end of a beautiful day at the beach. I'm at a boardwalk, looking out over the ocean at the sunset (or maybe it was the horizon, I don't know). Suddenly, I see someone thrashing in the water getting attacked by a shark. It was Steven Spielburg. And what did I do? Did I save him? No. I laughed and couldn't stop. Then I woke up and found out my sister was watching this show on Bravo about the making of the movie "Jaws".

Now, I'm only a fan of Spielburg's cartoon series from the early 1990's (Animaniacs, Tiny Toons, Toonsylvania, etc) and I don't really like any of his movies (except maybe for AI, Jurassic Park part one, and ET), but that dream was horrifying, even for me. I would never wish someone--not even a popular director--to be fed to the sharks.

Someone please tell me what the hell that dream meant (or tell me if you've ever had a twisted dream)

Freud said "it's the dreamer, not the dream".... whatever that means. :p

I'm thinking you heard the making of on TV and your brain inserted Spielberg and the shark into dreams- happens all the time. As for the laughter thing, I'm guessing you found the shark special effects "lacking". :D

Speaking of interpreting dreams, I had one last night that was one of the most memorable dreams I've ever had. Some recently deceased people were shrunk and sent to a guy's stomach. Inside the stomach, they noticed other dead people were there and the stomach had, in fact, the look of a civilization. Then a glowing being gave them whatever their heart desired. It's sort of like Men in Black 2, with the whole "camera pans back from Earth to reveal it's one locker in a large wall of lockers". More interestingly, I interpreted the dream as a metaphor for heaven. Apparently the damned went to the intestines... ;)

Wait a minute... you didn't like Schindler's List??? ;)

Actually I did. It's just that I haven't seen it since tenth grade.

i agree with the fact that since you heard a "jaws" related item on tv, it then implanted itself in your dream. it happens to me all the time. somebody (usually my mom) would call at about 8:00 AM and instead of getting up to answer the phone, it somehow works itself into my dream. for instance, it could be a phone i need to answer (in my dream), the pizza boy ringing the doorbell, or i may even be dreaming i'm playing one of my favorite video games

Okay, I'm up for some dream interpretation. I have a five year recurring nightmare with different sets, but the theme is the same. I'm in a dark place, and I know I'm asleep, and there is always somebody there, but I can't see who. And the weird thing is, I can't move. I hear sounds in the backround, like a crowded room, or whistling, and the sounds get louder and not only can't I move, but my body starts going numb, and I keep shouting at myself "wake up!! wake up!!!!!!". Eventually I always wake up, but often parts of my body are all buzzy, like when your foot gets bloodflow after falling asleep, only it's weird parts like my shoulder or the entire right side of my body, or something like that.

It's really freaky. I would like it very much if it would stop, cause I don't like that dream at all.

I am always having crazy dreams that I can't explain. I'll tell you one...

Theres one recurring dream that I have (I haven't in awhile though) it goes like this...

I'm in the back of a car, but no one is driving.
I realize this and I try to steer from the back.
But I can't control it, I end up crashing into cars.
But just as I'm about to crash, I wake up.

 I was telling this dream to a friend of mine, and she asked me if I had linked it with my Grandfather (at the time, my Grandfather had just died a week ago. He was driving up north to see me and my family, but had a heart attack and almost crashed the car. But my 9yr old cousin was with him and reached for the wheel, she saved her life.) I didn't think of it when I was having the dream, but it makes sense. In my dream I'm about 10 years old. I feel so helpless and scared. I haven't had the dream in a few months.

I'm thinking you used to go on car rides with your Grandfather when you were young, and his death decreased your confidence somehow.
Yes, my interpretations are strange.

I know someone who suffers from it, and I hear it can be very traumatic. I don't know if that's exactly what you have, but it sounds familiar.

As for myself, I've had dreams involving me being in a car with family. I'm sitting in the middle back seat while we're driving (never in the same area), and somewhere along the way, the car goes off the road and into some nearby river. As the car sinks, everybody else gets out, but my seatbelt always gets stuck, and by the time I get out, the car is completely submerged. I never reach the surface of the water before I wake up. I've had at least a dozen different variations of this dream, and probably more. It's odd. :D

Yes, my interpretations are strange.Actually, no I didn't. I didn't see my Grandpa that often. You see he lived in Florida, while I lived in Wisconsin. Every now and then, he would come up to visit of course.
