View Full Version : The Official Valentine's Day Thread (Spoilers)

I've been here a few years now, and I know that around this time of year, there's plenty of things being said about the day of forced love, Valentine's Day, be they pro and con. To save our fair Cafe from becoming clogged with this stuff - which is mostly negative, unfortunately - I've decided to funnel all those comments into this one thread.

So, feel free to write about your experiences, hopes, current situation, and general outlooks here, be they positive, negative, or neutral. Don't mistake this as allowance of bashing the holiday or anything - such posts will be deleted.

Here's hoping everyone has a good one - and for those on the short end of the relationship stick, like me, try to keep a level head and don't get depressed over things and bring it to this board. It's not worth it. :p

Think I'll just shoot myself like last year. I don't hate the Day, just the datelessness.

Well and I have no girl friend to boot on this one, but I will go out today and visit the mall for a bit so that I can enjoy my self for the day, yet nothing much to do.

Mwuaha - glad someone caught on to that. That avatar is all in good fun - I tore it out of a pic I did at the Drawing Board last year. It was the closest to a Valentine's Day pic I had, so I wanted to toss it in there. :)

i'll be playing the singles card again this year. i have to work until 8 pm, but after that i'll either come home and spend the night on toon zone, reading, or just watching the tv. or i'll go down the road to the bar and drink my brains out. either way a good night of fun for me! :D

Well as a change of pace to the current tide of this thread.

I was going to make dinner at home for my girlfriend, but thanks to weirdo roommates I decided going out is a better option...so nice seafood dinner @ 4:15PM (because apparently every restaraunt in Boston is FULL at normal eating hours)

BUT...I have been negligent in planning anything else, except for, well...the...um  oh boy...let's just leave it at that.

I have been saved! My girlfriend works 2 jobs and is pulling a 15 hour shift that day so she'll be too tired to do anything after that. So I get the cheap cuddlin' instead of the expensive other stuff.

Here's what I did for a Valentine's day though, I wrote her a hand written love letter telling her why I love her and why I want to stay with her, am going to tie a rose to it an give it to her. How's that?

... yeah.

After waking up for DinoThunder (Really, great timing. I woulda slept the day away if it weren't for some Ranger goodness), I'll probably finish Dai-Guard, do a science lab, and regretfully watch SVES.

Fun.

This year valentines falls on a saturday, which means I will be working the entire day and night and won't have to deal with any of that couples crap. I'll read my books, enjoy my day away from humanity. But I always enjoy a day away from humanity no matter what day it is, so, it's no big deal to me :D

Sadly, I'll be staying in today...I still have a slight fever. It's caused by my 105.5 temperature I had Monday late-night.:(

Anyway, this is kinda my worst holiday because...I've got no one to share it with.:( I pretty much prefer to stay away from women at all costs.:( The reasons are: I was confronted by a pervert at age 15, plus I've seen enough on Japanese cartoons how they are. Pokemon's Misty and Ultimate Muscle's Jacqueline and Roxanne to name three. Also, my 15-month younger sister treats me like ----.

Thankfully, there are 2 exceptions: Pokemon Advanced's May and, of course, Yu-gi-oh's Mai Valentine. They're both very sweet.:)

Well, Happy Valentine's Day everyone. I'll always love my mom (and my sister).

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!!!!!

Well I was just planning on working, because I work at a jewelry store on the weekends. That's where I am now actually, and it's been quite a busy day! So I just figured I would work all day, and then there were plans to go out to dinner with the family afterwards. Some of you know that I went out with this navy guy a few times, only known him about a month, and he's in basic training right now. When I came into the store today I saw this gorgeous vase of roses on one of the display cases and I figured that one of the girls had brought them in to fancy up the place. My mom had driven me in and she was all smiles for some reason. The other female worker was the same and she was like, did you see the roses?! I was like, dur, yeah, they're pretty...who brought them? And I went over to inspect them....and there was a card with my name on it.
Not only that, but among the roses was a 24k rose, that we sell actually. It is a real rose dipped in 24 karat gold and then colored in laquere to make it look like a real rose. I was so floored, it was unbelievable. And it was from the navy guy. OMG!!!!!
So right now I'm on cloud nine and in disbelief, I certainly never imagined this in a million years. Wow.

Sometimes having a significant other isn't all that cracked up to be. My first boyfriend, first *real* valentine decided to go snowboarding with a mutual friend of ours. His way of making it up to me? Pizza and soda. He doesn't "believe" in Valentine's Day. http://cmw.dailymoviereviews.com/cwm/cwm/angryfire.gif    :( I'm not bitter, can you tell? =P

Oh well. Frees me up to go hit the bars with my other roommate and his friends and possibly wallow in the stupidness of it all. Misery loves company, after all! ;)

Valentine's Day was soooo incredibly better when I was single. This is the WORST Valentine's day yet.

Misery loves company, after all! ;)Yeah, I know. I play poker with him every Friday night.

Yeah, me and a friend ended up going to Old Town in Kissimee. Since most of you don't know what I'm talking about, it's a bunch of shops and carnival rides about 10 minutes from Disney. I bought a pack of Batman movie cards and ate the 15-year-old gum. It rained all day.
Oh well. Happy V-Day, TZ.

Since Valentine's Day is nearing a close, here's what I did today:
-Got up at 9:30, ate breakfast, did laundry, watched Kim Possible & Seinfeld.
-Ate lunch, surfed Toonzone/various computer updating, then went shopping
-Ate supper/Went to work for 2.5 hours
-Came back and watched a butchered Die Hard 2 on TV (since when did a black guy dub for Bruce Willis?! )
-Took shower, went to bed

That's about it. Pretty standard Saturday for me.

I worked last year. Money in the bank yes but still depressing at the same time. :(

I didn't do much today. I didn't get anything from anyone. Nothing new there.

Of course, I was in deep thought: how did St. Valentine's Day become Lovers Day when it's really about the St. Valentine's day massacre and why in the WORLD did some moron decide to make V-Day Single Awareness Day (SAD for short)?

I'm gonna go watch the rest of Trading Spaces to get my Carter fix. I hope he's on ONE episode of Trading Spaces: Family..

It's almost midnight here in the Central Time Zone and there is one thing I've learned from this year's Valentine's Day, the rise of the usage of "V-Day". That's the Internet for you! :D

Wow, what a Valentine's Day.

My significant other and I both got rather sick Friday, and weren't up to going out tonight. So she came over, we rented Takeshi Kitano's Brother, and made some chicken noodle soup. Predictably, we both dosed off 15 minutes into the movie. That's what happens when two exhausted people share a couch. I just woke up in time to watch Teen Titans, and she's still sleeping.

We both feel awful, but it's been fun and intimate, in a weird sort of way.

Valentine's Day: if you have a special someone, you can snuggle. If you don't, then give yourself some chocolate anyway. Either way, you can come out with a win.

Well, this year I gave a card and a heart of candy to a girl at my college. She's really pretty, nice, and from Hawaii . She thanked me, but was busy studying, so didn't say much else.

Aside from that, I gave my mother a card and candy and she bought me lunch.

I think the holiday itself, while not up to Christmas or Birthdays, isn't a bad one. Besides, afterwards = DISCOUNT CANDY! :)

I spent most of the day with my boyfriend at Katsucon playing 'F-Zero GX' and stuff. He gave me a necklace and a friendship charm. ^^ It made the otherwise-boring con worth it.

But... I didn't get a picture of us together, and I don't think we'll ever have another chance to.

I woke up, did housework for three hours, went to Perkins, listened to arguments all day, waited two hours for my Everything Omelette, went back home with a migraine, attempted to go to sleep but couldn't and spent almost the rest of the day watching my terror of a sister.

Was yesterday Valentine's Day?
Hmm, I had no idea.

Well, I am very much against the capitalist aspect of the day, so I took the cheapskate approach-- took my girlfriend up to Lake Ashurst where we watched the sun set over the frozen lake. It were purty. (-:

We didn't feel like waiting for hours on end to try to get a table at some restaurant, so we ordered pizza and stayed in and watched Cowboy Bebop and the Mask instead. Good times.

Hero of Wind's valentine's day...

got up at 8:00 to watch some cartoons. namely pokemon: advance, tmnt, and the teen titans repeat even though the wb claims it is "all new"

rolled out of bed at about 10:00 and went on the internet to see if anybody was on toonzone

did my daily "getting ready" activities at about noon, scarfed down some lunch, and left for work

worked from 2:00 until 8:00 upon which i returned home

showered, slipped on some shorts, and then hit the internet again to see who else couldn't get a date or didn't want to

read 100 pages of "harry potter and the goblet of fire" while watching SVES

went to bed at about 1:00

Visited my girlfriend at another college for the weekend. She kicked me out of the apartment at 4 on Saturday so she could get ready and surprise me with her beauty, and once she was done we could go to whatever restaurant she had picked.

She called me back an hour and a half later, to a bottle of wine, candle, and Cap'n Crunch chicken. It was great.

She had given me some gifts the night before (she's pretty impatient) a Spidey tie and some home-made dragon pillows. So I was highly surprised to find a card on the table with tickets to see Jon Stewart! She's pretty awesome, that one.

We didn't do much else that night other hang out with friends and LI Iced Teas, but it was a good day.

...and Cap'n Crunch chicken.
Explain this "Cap'n Crunch Chicken" please.

Nice day BTW...tix to see Jon Stewart is a pretty cool gift.

Oh, and as a follow up (cuz you all care sooooo much):

Had a great dinner on saturday with my girlfriend at our favorite seafood restaurant, did a little window shopping, and went out for a desert at a really cool place downtown. After that we capped off the evening with a few drinks and headed home. I thought I had a nice surprise in store when I gave her a Tiffany's necklace she had been eyeing...but my wonderful woman blew me away with this big gift wrapped box, that turned out to be a Tivo (that I had wanted for xmas, but hey no complaints here).

Explain this "Cap'n Crunch Chicken" please.Certainly. Chicken 'breaded' in Cap'n Crunch cereal. Sounds pretty weird, but it's quite good. I highly reccommend it.

Sounds like your limit was much higher than ours. I thought $100 is a bit much (though, of course, I exceeded it), but a Tivo and a Tiffany's bracelet? Yikes! Good gift, though.

Heh that's nothing. I've bought 14karat pearls for $40 at Overstock. Ah... Overstock is my friend, saved me $200. Like George Lopez says, I am building up credit with super gifts so that when I eventually forget an anniversay/birthday/valentine day I can say

"But remember when I got you ______" and she'll sigh and go "yeah..." and that'll be that.

I am so evil.

No the limit was pretty similar, apparently she got the Tivo for like 150 and the bracelet was about the same.

And this Cap'n Chrunch chicken sounds wrong...but yet intriguing.

Saturday:
1. I got a card, some candy and $10.00 from my parents.

2. Fell asleep and missed Dino Thunder Premiere.

3. I recorded the love themed All Grown Up episodes.

4. Recorded The New Episode of Teen Titans.

Sunday:
1. I managed to catch the reairing of Dino Thunders.

2. I took $10 and some money I've been saving and purchased Space Ghost Coast To Coast Volume 1 DVD.

3. Recorded the Space Ghost Coast To Coast Marathon (on VHS).

</insert it will cut the roof of your mouth joke here>Well, then. Good deals all around.

It does sound weird...but it's really no different that sweet and sour chicken...without the sour...or something. I had Cap'n Crunch chicken fingers a few years ago on a vacation at Planet Hollywood and she remembered I liked them. So now that has to go into my recipe book :)

I spent the whole day driving a vanload of teens to the All-State band competition, and back again. It was fun; it's not like I had anything else to do anyway.

I chocolated out when we got home.
