yeah, great issue, mcguinness is imo the best dc penciler right now (or tied w/ mcdanial and nauk). i cant wait to see what darkseid does w/ doomsday. but i have a question...why does earth owe apokolips anything from the war?? they were both in it equally, and the parademons attack on earth i'm sure did just as much damage as the lexcorp tower attack, so, aw well, i guess its not a big deal. but it was a great issue, i would have liked to see alittle more joker, i mean, what exactly did the joker gas do to doomsday?? give him that grin? thats it? nobody even noticed he was jokerized, or atleast they didnt mention it. i would have like superman to realize doomsday was jokerized or something. oh well. peace.

Well, I had the chance to flip through it at the comics store. I kind of liked the explanation for why Doomsday simply was not able to beat Supes anymore, but I still felt like the fight would've been harder for Supes...maybe he's gotten stronger since then?
I'm not so sure that this is the end of Doomsday. He was still alive at the end when Lex had a hold of him, right? We'll probably see another fight at some point.

Harder? Doomsday killed him again! How could it have gotten any harder?

Huh. I musta missed that while flipping through. I'm gonna see if I can either read a review somewhere or maybe steal a better look at it later.
And still, at the end, you have to admit Supes was just tearing him apart. Doomsday didn't seem to be showing a whole lot of resistance.

Yeah, I'd suggest reading the issue if you can - while Supes is kicking the crap out of him, he explains why he's able to take Doomsday down easier this time - what Doomsday's weakness is now.

Yeah, I caught that...I liked that, though I don't think that it explained it quite well enough for me. I think that that would make a difference, but not the difference between the original fight where they both died and this one. But then, I guess the writers figured no one wanted to see issues and issues of Doomsday getting pummeled again. It wasn't all that exciting for me the first time...

Eh, it worked for me.
I wish he could be the new JLA artist, but he's doing great on Superman, has a real actiony and almost animated feel to his art and thats really what you need to be successful, mainly action that comes together, or something that makes the story come together. This book was the only reason for me going to the comic store on wedsday and I was not disapointed. I also don't think its doomsday's last fight, Darkseid has him which I would think is even more trouble-some for Supes. The next big Apocalypse story will probably have Doomsday heading the troops for Darkseid, maybe even more powerful. Surely DC wouldn't ever pull the death of superman stunt again though. Actually, Our Worlds At War was like the Death of Superman spiritually, he lost a lot there. So, I can't think of what the next move in it all could be, but whatever that may be, I know it'll be cool.

Eds art is always killer. I hope this guy stays on Superman so long that it makes Curt Swans run look like a temp assignment.
but Doomsday sucks. He's always sucked. He's yet another one-note uber unbeatable character in the oh-so proud tradition of Venom who was created to kill Superman because he wasn't over with the Wolverine crowd. Personally, I hope against hope that we never have to see Doomsday stupid one dimensonal mug ever again. Die Doomsday die.

Hey Nass,
Did you catch McGuinness's rendition of Batman in that Superman crossover issue? His Batman looks really amazing. I'd like to see an artist like McGuinness on JLA or even a Batman title.

Ed McGuinness is easily my favorite artist, too. I like Mike Wieringo on Adventures, a lot, too, his art style is actually kind of similar to McGuinness. My favorite writer is Joe Kelly on Action Comics. The most recent issue, #783, was really powerful. The only title I really don't like is Man of Steel. I don't care for the writing, and the art's not too great either.
Hey, if anyone cares, I actually review the Superman comics on my website. There are a lot of spoilers, so, check it out if you wanna know what happened in issues that ya may have missed!

You must read ACTION #775, the best Superman comic in quite awhile. If DC dropped MAN OF STEEL - I don't think I'd mind. I, too, am not a huge fan of that book. The new artist may change my mind. I'm not a big Doug Mankhe fan, but his art in ACTION #775 was great though because it fit the gritty tone of the story.
Weiringo is doing his best work since ROBIN and SENSATIONAL SPIDER-MAN, in my opinion.
