Not only did Lupin make the Top 3, isn't this the first week any action show besides Big O has made the Top 3?

Animation Otaku

I'm guessing those were the bottom 3, simply because I doubt 297,000 could make #3. But if it was the top 3(which I severely doubt), that would rock.

Was something really big/popular on TV last Sunday? The last three programs of the night were the highest rated, so maybe people were watching something else initially.

At any rate, yay for Lupin, too bad we'll probably never see new episodes (on CN, anyway, there's still the DVDs).

They're not screwing with us OR trying to trick more people into watching their lower-rated shows are they? Did Lupin and CB REALLY make it into the top 3 last week?!?

IF this is true, then kudos to Lupy, but this doesn't speak well for the 1 1/2 hours of Sun. AS. Hopefully Home Movies is getting decent enough ratings for another season after this one.

<MattW> it means Home Movies is a bomb

<MattW> and it has driven everyone away
<MattW> 250,000 viewers is VERY LOW
<MattW> it's like a 0.3
<MattW> an overall 0.3 with 18-34
<MattW> that's 50% the normal ratings

Home Movies had 497,000 the previous week, that's pretty dang good. Yeah, the ratings stunk the next week, but it is way too early to jump to any conclusions. We have one week and one bad week, with a bunch more episodes to go. There is no need to say goodby to Brendan. Adult Swim doesn't cancel series based on one week of bad ratings.

What? Because after enjoying 3 full seasons of Home Movies they suddenly decided after one fourth season episode to never watch again? I guess this means people are never going to watch Space Ghost, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Sealab or The Brak Show again since those shows got less than 297,000 also. Eh?

Let's wait for next week's ratings before declaring the sky is falling.

I have to agree with Matt Wilson. It doesn't look good for Home Movies, the failure of the weekday run partly affected it. The second reason it is in this situation is because of its long hiatus, which may have made the fans of Home Movies think it WAS cancelled, and they may have stranded away from Cartoon Network all together. The third reason for this new low is what SwimBuddah said, it was a holiday, even I didn't see the episode last week. If Home Movies doesn't do good this week, then there could be some problems for Home Movies in the seeable future.

- If you had put any other AS show on in place of Futurama of Family Guy it probably would have done just as badly in that slot.

The second reason it is in this situation is because of its long hiatus, which may have made the fans of Home Movies think it WAS cancelled, and they may have stranded away from Cartoon Network all together.

- Then why did almost 500,000 tune in the previous week?

The third reason for this new low is what SwimBuddah said, it was a holiday, even I didn't see the episode last week. If Home Movies doesn't do good this week, then there could be some problems for Home Movies in the seeable future.

- There is still like 10 weeks to go, plenty of time for more data.

It is possible that the airing of the first episode was somewhat of a one-time thing. The overadvertising paid off, but even with the vacation 500,000 to below 290,000 is a considerable drop down, and you have to admit, something else must have triggered this huge downfall.

Duke

If these are indeed the top ratings, then the WS Lab shows, which normally take the top spots, failed miserably too.

*thinking about the shows on list, thinking improves*

It is rather odd that the ratings winners last week all ended in a clump, timeslot wise, and at the tailend, where the worst usually do. Couldn't find anything important going on last weekend (besides being long weekend). A few basketball games but nothing major.

Best guess: people came home late and turned on television.

Or maybe Home Movies had 3 lousy-performing seasons and was only kept because CN had no money to produce real content.

If you had put any other AS show on in place of Futurama of Family Guy it probably would have done just as badly in that slot.
Right.. I'm sure that CN regrets replacing Home Movies with Futurama on weekdays, since it's so obvious that it's a ratings super smash.

Maybe it did badly because it was Home Movies, and people are brainless and don't care for its humor. Do you think I hate the show? Because I don't. People never accepted Home Movies. Never have, never will. It's alarming how many people still think the show is done in Squigglevision. Home Movies has a cult fan base but that fan base is shrinking more and more and internet audiences alone can't help the show. Home Movies had its chance and it blew it. Even though they picked the perfect episode to air, people still didn't care. I dunno why. But then again I don't know why people enjoy Sealab either.

Come ON. Long holiday weekend? What the hell does a long holiday weekend have to do with TV on a Sunday night at 11 PM? People are at home doing nothing anyway. It's not like half the audience of Adult Swim decided to go on a giant whitewaterrafting trip, only to fall into the land of the lost. RAR.

Duke
01-26-2004, 01:21 AM
Geez, Matt. Why don't you just wait and see how the following episodes do? I'm sure that pretty much any other show (even Aqua Teens and Space Ghost) would have bombed if it replaced Futurama and/or Family Guy on weekdays.

A network doesn't renew a show 3 times if it is performing lousy.

I'm not sure what you mean there. My point was that this summer if it had been Space Ghost, Aqua Teen, Mission Hill, etc. that replaced Futurama for those 2 weeks instead of Home Movies, the ratings would probably have been just as bad.

I thought you meant tonight for some reason. I dunno why. Maybe because it's 1:30 AM.

A network doesn't renew a show 3 times if it is performing lousy.
Broadcast networks don't, but Cartoon Network does. If they are so prepped to cancel shows with low ratings, Adult Swim would've been cancelled at the end of 2001. They took a chance because they hoped it would catch on, like ATHF eventually did. It only costs $50,000 an episode so if it does lousy at first it's no big deal. But it is when AS needs to tighten their budget to accomodate 35 episodes of Family Guy.

One thing people didn't even mention yet concerning the ratings last week: Last week, the NFC Championship game aired on Fox Prime Time. I'm not sure of what time the game had ended, but there's a possibility that the post-game show may have went into the 11:00 PM hour, which may have affected the ratings for Home Movies (although I don't know how it could affect "the Lab" programs' ratings).

Look at it this way. When Big O performed poorly on certain weeks(which it usually rebounded from the next weeks), the other shows ratings dropped a little bit, but it was still the usual suspects at the top. If Home Movies really did turn people off, ATHF, Sealab, and C2C would of still been up there, but with lower than usual ratings. The fact that it was the last three shows that got the highest ratings seems to indicate people were doing something else at the time Adult Swim airs, which fits in with the whole holiday weekend thing.

AS Sunday Thoughts:

SGC2C: First time seeing that episode with Shatner.. I found it pretty funny. Especially Space Ghost with the hook in his head, and beating up the computer with a rock.

ATHF: I've seen this episode, and find it ok.. How MeatWad keeps wanting to put Backstreet Boys as the answer, but at the end says N'Sync. And that it's an illusion the whole time.. And that huge dvd..

BRAK: Cardburkey strikes again.. yet my dish still calls it fairly Werewolf. 'Penguincleese!!" And bum arm are the things I take away from the episode.

Sealab: That was so funny that the captain made a commercial to bring tourists to Sealab to pay back the money he owes for making the commercial.. Nice sick and twisted circle.. Especially when that pregnant lady went into the dolphin pool. Very funny episode.

Mission Hill: Another great episode of Mission Hill, I'm really starting to enjoy this show. The things he went through to get that recommendation and then to fall in love and be rejected was a great story.. And it was funny to leave it off with him swimming after the recommendation.

Cowboy Bebop: Always a good episode. Spike saves the day, Faye doesn't think he'll come back... hm.. reminds me of another episode.. but in this one Spike lives. And it was really predictable that Spike was gonna go 'bang' at the end.

Lupin III: Ok. I'm really enjoying Lupin lately, this is a really good show, more people should watch it. The whole episode about trying to steal the wine, they do and then it tastes horrible is just so hilarious.

Cards: I really didn't care for the cards this sunday. They were pointless in my opinion. Although nice to know Lupin is being watched..

Wow,even though their numbers weren't too great I am still very very shocked that 2 action shows beat comedy shows. Adult Swim sundays have had months of repeat comedy in the past and still done better in the comedy department than the action department. So one must wonder if maybe people are finally figuring out how horrible these comedy shows are and moving on to the good stuff :D .

One side note though, didn't these 3 shows all come on at the last 1 and a half hour of adult swim? maybe people just got home late from holiday events and only got to watch these shows. Guess next week we'll find out.

I love the direction futurama took after the first 2 seasons. I especially noticed it in Tonights (as well as Monday's) episodes as well as in a few fifth season episodes. The show stops being just a "make everyone laugh at the future" show and starts some interesting character development. Last night with Fry and Leela, Tonight with Fry and his brother Yancy. Very cool how the show can still maintain it's amusing qualities while also having some character development

Except this is something we can also see in other american animation and live action. :rolleyes:You're right. My thread asking peoples' opinions on Futurama being even in the smallest bit influenced by anime was never implying that anime is better than american cartoons and live action shows. It was supposed to be a hot topic of discussion for people to discuss how parts of Futurama that could've been influenced by anime.

But it didn't exist until anime. Plot, continuity, and character development were all invented by Japanese anime.

There was nothing before anime. Nothing at all. God would not have created the universe had He not been influenced by anime.Ok. Let's not get into this again.

And now that I'm finished making fun of someone who thinks too highly of anime, does anyone know how many men Fujiko Mine has agreed to marry in order to take their money and jewelry?I don't think too highly of anime. I love anime, but I also like other kinds of shows.

As for your question, as many as she wants.

Maybe it did badly because it was Home Movies, and people are brainless and don't care for its humor.
I don't appreciate being lumped into the category of "brainless" just because I don't like a badly animated show about a bunch of stupid kids who like to make movies.

But then again I don't know why people enjoy Sealab either.
Well, I think it's one of the most intelligently written series on TV, but that doesn't mean that people who don't like it are "brainless".

RAR.
Well, I was piss drunk two Sundays ago. I got home just in time to see part of the second run of Home Movies. And no, even the alcohol didn't make it funny.

...intelligent? What?

It's lameass Comedy Central "obvious humor" of the most generic kind.

The answer is 34.

Foolish one, the answer to the ultimate question is undoubtedly 42. I thought you, of all people, would have known that.

AS Thoughts:

Inuyasha: The re-emergence of Koga, Inuyasha and Koga regretfully work together to defeat Naraku's latest incarnation. Jealousy rears it's head as Inuyasha and Koga clash egos.

Big O: The infamous Stripes episode. The episode where Angel and Roger become close than seperate as it appears to her that he's holding back. Also Angel is revealed to be a member in the 'Union' and Dorothy's life is being threatened by that one crazy guy I forget his name.. Even though I liked the Dorothy/Roger pairing, I always wondered how a Roger/Angel pairing would've changed the path of the show...

Cowboy Bebop: Radical Edward makes her first appearance, and at the end comes perhaps one of my favorite quotes from Spike. "Jet, there's 3 things I hate in life, women, kids, and pets. So tell me.... WHY DO WE HAVE ALL OF THEM NEATLY GATHERED ON THIS SHIP!!! " Something like that.

Lupin III: Another funny Lupin, as he and company attempt to steal a jewel from this old guy's eye socket. He does and escapes to the dismay of Pops.

And I would assume that you are a vampiric alien jaguar from a cat planet that's invisible to the human eye but I would be wrong.

Well...I always thought Comedy Central's humor was pretty intelligent. Besides, wasn't Dr. Katz on Comedy Central? And isn't Dr. Katz basically the same type of humor as Home Movies?

Personally, the only shows I watch on CC are The Daily Show, South Park, and sometimes Tough Crowd.

Great, this'll set back the chance of getting anime with "****" muttered aired uncut on Adult Swim by about a hundred years. Of course, that's fine if you're a plant.
