I just wanted to know if anoyone agrees with me in saying that Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi should come to Adult Swim.
I just bought the first DVD today and think that the series is awsome. My reasons in thinking that it shoul come to Adult Swim are the following:
1) It's funny and out of this world
2) it's made by Gainax
3) It's like FLCL where anything can happen
What do you think?

Isn't it an ADV property? If so, then there's probably no chance.

ADV=No way.

Never in a million years! But I'd love Williams Street and ADV if they did make a reality.

What does it have to do with being for a white kid? Who cares who the show's dedicated to? If it's good, cost effective, and available, get it.

I don't think it has to do with bad relationships with ADV. I just think ADV would prefer to put stuff on their semi-anime network.

No, apparently ADV is still actively pitching shows to CN.

NEVER!!!!*

*Never should translate as "It's possible", or perhaps as "I may have misread it breifly, but then reread it, because I have a penchant for detail, and then decided to play off the misreading anyway because I thought it would be funny," however inane it may seem.

Well, that was as of April 2003. Hopefully the next time I get to talk to ADV's rep in April 2004, it'll still be the case that they are pitching to CN.

I still wonder if ADV is just being to picky about what to pitch to who, especially considering that everyone else is trying to pitch every property they get to everyone open to it.

They must have REALLY hated the ratings from GRW...

If the CN execs turned down Angelic Layer then they deserve to be shot!

Anyways, I've seen images of Abenobashi... I want to see it. Hell, that Mune girl was my avatar for a while.

If the CN execs turned down Angelic Layer then they deserve to be shot!

If dub-quality is a deciding factor for a CN getting anime, I can see why Angelic Layer (and why a lot of the other ADV shows have been turned down by CN.) Many of the VA's can't even their own character's name pronounced right, let alone the name of the other characters in Angelic Layer.

That however, is not an issue with Abenobashi, which has a very nice dub IMO.

ADV= bah I can't think of a humorious way to say what the abreviations mean...

Anyways Abenobashi currently o nly has volume 1 out and volume 2 is going to be released very shortly, besides there are gratutious shots of ass and boobs that may cause them to concieve the ever so hated digi-bikini...I mean there are limits and then there are limits

Yes, Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi is ADV, but since these rumors about ADV and Cartoon Network having a bad relationship are apparently untrue, it has a chance.

Anyway, I agree that it would be perfect for Adult Swim. It's like Fooly Cooly, but with a crossdresser!

Can we expect to see as many I want Abenobashi on Adult Swim threads as we saw for Excel Saga?
It probably won't but it should be on AS. I just preordered the 2nd volume and i can't wait for it to come in. It's really awesome.

IMHO, it seems like a cross between Excel Saga and FLCL.
I like the nice little swipes it does (but respectfully, not spitefully) at not only established anime and Japanese TV shows, but at American properties like Star Wars and 2001: A Space Oddessy .
It would be nice if it came to AS. Don't see it happening though. The way they'd have to edit it just to make it to television would have every otaku fanboy (and even a few casual fans) screaming bloody murder. Not to say they wouldn't have cause to.

That comment would proablly start a debate.I still don't see how a failure in the past would affect the future this much.

That can't be the case. Otherwise, Knights of the Zodiac wouldn't be on CN.

I'd be willing to bet that like with Pilot Candidate, CN bought before they saw Zodiac based on external hype. They probably though they were getting something closer to Saint Saiya. The few times CN's had a bad dub on it's hand, they've done there best to hide it a way and kill it.

The dubs aren't much different, aside from one using the original theme and the other using a cover of a song that's older then THAT theme.

They still might have bought on impulse based on previous hype though, and KOTZ might have put CN even further off ADV properties (if GRW's poor performance wasn't bad enough.)

So... why'd they pick up Pilot Candidate? Doesn't seem to have near the raves of Saint Seiya... maybe it was just a Toonami short series on the cheap?

Knights of the Zodiac is a DiC property. The UNCUT Saint Seiya is ADV.

No, uncut Saint Seiya is a coproduction between DiC and ADV. DiC's France branch has held the Saint Seiya licence since the early 90's. Back on topic, I just watched my Promo copy of Abenobashi Ep. 1 from Newtype, and it does feel like FLCL, if not as manic. Satoru Akahori 4evah!

Which episode is the Eva parody? I'm dying to see that.

I can definitely see MSAA on AS, it's plausible but I don't know if it's feasible, same thing with Excel Saga

Bandai might have hyped it as an Eva-eqsue series suitable for Toonami, or it might have been part of a package deal with Big O and Outlaw Star, or they might have only had a subtitled screener, or maybe a combination of those, or maybe some other 5th thing.

It's a question to ask CN next time we get the chance.

EDIT- Coincidently, CN also licenced Sailor Moon and Reboot from their parent companies, despite ADV owning the video distribution rights.

Episode 2 is a general giant robot series parody. If there's a specific NGE parody episode, it isn't available on DVD yet.
I like the DBZ parady but NGE was the best. What was the parady in Ep. 2? I forgot.

The problem would be editing during one of the later episodes. A lot of nudity...some full frontal... of minors...

But why couldn't they just mosaic it like they did with Fooly Cooly episode 6? (Even though that scene was already mosaiced.)They'd probably either crop or use the digital bikini. Moasicis and blurs always look stupid and halfassed.

which episode and scene, because I don't remember that all. Lots of butt, and a car made out of boobs, but no frontal kiddy nudity IIRC.

It is in the American Movie episode when the two kids teleport in ala termanator neither have clothing and you see everything. Sasshi does his best Arnold impersanation and Ayumi gets angry and kicks him repeatedly in the testicals... with a bell ringing sound. :) It could easly be cut and added mosaics wouldn't be too distracting although the hot dog scene would be complely lost on TV although I can see it working with bleeping.

It's not an EVA parody. They just happened to use some of the EVA background music when the kids were loaded into the giant robot. You know, that "TOOM-TOOM-TOOM-TOOM toomtoom" battle music when they fight Angels? A pleasant surprise to GAINAX fans, but by all means not an EVA parody. Just a slight nod 'cause it's the same studio.

Since I determined I really like comedy anime, I'll have to convince my girlfriend to try this one out (she's responsible for all DVD purchasing, and likes to just suddenly start collecting series she's never previously even heard of)

Oh yeah. The teleport bit would be easily enough to deal with some mosaic or recropping without losing the whole joke, and Kohei-san's hot dog stand bit would be just as funny with bleeps, if not funnier.
