View Full Version : Is it redundant to have AS air twice in a row?

I know some of you might miss the Family Guy or Futurama episodes, so maybe be inclined to catch them at their 2am/2:30am spot, but does anyone watch AS twice in a row? I use to love how at 2am we had PPG, Dexter, Edd, and then Courage, because it was different, but to have the exact same shows air twice in a row just seems like milking AS for all it's worth.
Sunday's would be good to air twice, since they usually have new episodes of shows, but weekdays? Anyone else think that too much is not really a good?

I only watch the first run.
No. Adult Swim > reruns of crap.

Well if I was busy and I was unable to see the first 3 hours of it, I'd usually wait untill the next 3 hours to watch it regards of missed shows.

Is it redundant to have AS air twice in a row? Ask that to Williams Street, you'll see your answer Thursday night.

I think it's great that it reruns. Sometimes, like last night, I fall asleep watching it, wake up a few hours later, and there it is again. It would suck to wake up to anything else.

I only watch the first three hours if I make it. Usually, I watch the animes I like and then go to sleep.

I usually end up missing part of the first run, so I'm glad there's a second run right after it.

I usually only watch from the middle of the first run to the middle of the second. I'm just getting into bed at 4 am.

It would suck to wake up to anything else.Yeah, one night I fell asleep to Bebop, and then woke up early to Lupin, waking up to Lupin is nice... Well the Tv show atleast.

I sometimes watch half the first run, then sleep during the second half and the beginning of the first half of the second, and then watch the last half of the second run.
You still with me?

Where's the "I'm out so late drinking and carousing that I only get to catch the 2nd airing!" option??? I feel so neglected...

Are you joking?
I used to love how 2 am - 5 am was ACME Hour, Tom & Jerry, and the Flintstones and Jetsons. Back in 2002, before CN decided to put Cartoon Cartoons there for no reason. NOONE liked the changed 2 am - 5 am schedule. Adult Swim is a vast improvement over repeats of PPG, Dexter, Edd, and Courage.
Not to mention those shows were ENCORE REPEATS themselves, an encore of the episode that aired in the afternoon.

LOL @ the forth option, I am humbled =)
Seems a lot of you are night owls?
Matt, when you say "everoyne" you mean yourself, right? ;)
I like the fact that AS repeats itself because it doesn't force me to go watch an episode when it first airs. I have the choice of continuing to do what I'm doing at that time and watch it 3 hours later. I like that.

You think anyone would have voted option 2 if I made it so I could see who voted for what? I think we'd have MORE votes up there ;) ;)
LOL
Great poll, please keep voting and imputing. I can def. relate to many of you. When I missed the 11pm premiere of Home Movies a few weeks ago, I got to catch it at 2am, which would have been non-existant without the second viewing.

Well, personally, I just set my VCR timer to tape whatever I want to watch on Adult Swim, so the same-night reruns have no use for me personally because I never miss the first showing unless there's a power outage or something. But then again, it's not like I'd watch anything else they showed on that particular time slot either, so I'm pretty neutral on the subject.

I gotta be honest with you Matt, I never liked those old cartoons. I use to watch a lot of Disney toons though, loved Donald Duck, but never go into the whole Warner Bros. cartoons, so I dont think I'll give the shout out, but they are welcome to come here and vote for me being a jerk!!! :bosko:

yeah I would say its pretty redundant. I enjoy reruns but not on the same night they aired. its as bad as when CN reruns CC's or anything else in the same day. :( http://members.aol.com/kimminakochan/chicken.gif

I want to have TylerL's babies!
One time The Brak Show encore scored better than the first showing (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=99442). Shows you how popular it is. Next we will see press releases that claim "Adult Swim is constantly beating Ron Poppel infomercials for the 18-34 male key demographics"

There can never too much of a good thing, and that includes AS.

It works for now. If there were more shows then maybe not but if we always had everything airing then some things would get really old. I'd like it if they did 3 comidies then 3 action show then 3 comdieis and finally 3 more action shows. Variety is the spice of life!

I watch it if I miss something, but I'd watch more if they had different shows such as Home Movies of Kikaider at 4 AM. Even if shows don't work out at 11 or 11:30 PM, I doubt they'd be out anything running lower rated material once it gets really late into the night.

But that post was ^^ much love.. Yeah...I like the second airing...I stayed up all of last night, and it was nice to watch Family Guy one more time

Word. They could even-- GASP!-- air Reign and Baby Blues in the AM as well.

Double word. The middle of the night seems like the perfect place for fan favorites that don't necessarily generate ratings. It might be really late, but at least the shows would be on.

Every once in a while there is something interesting on the history channel that I want to tape and watch later. Doubling up on AS gives me a chance to tape the shows there that I also want to watch.
But "Home Movies" or "Baby Blues" late at night would be nice. Even, very nice. Yes.

Right now, I don't watch any of the shows normaly. I use both runs as fill while eating or switching between games and Subs. I will start watching again when the new shows hit. (Yes, I do watch the new stuff I can stomach on Sundays. Not happy with some of the new eps.)

Having the second run enables me to tape the Daily Show, Leno, Conan, Family Guy, and Futurama without the need of a second VCR.

The U.S. Redundant Department of Redundancy also demands redundant payment too, for tax purposes.

I like how it is repeated, It would be something for me to watch if I couldn't sleep instead of boring paid programming

I see no great benefit in the repeat of the schedule. It has once or twice come in handy for catching something I had previously missed, but this is a rare concern. I'd rather have Adult Swim than some random slate of Cartoon Cartoons, though perhaps some classic theatrical shorts or seldom-seen shows like Freakazoid might be even better suited to the hours. I'd like to see them use those three hours to show some AS shows that haven't been seen in a long while or can't hack it in a more lucrative time slot. I actually do expect they'll do that some day, though I cannot predict.

Being a west coast satellite subscriber (meaning I get an east coast feed) I've found the replay to be really nice, as I now get to watch AS at the normal time rather than at 8pm when all of the locals are just beginning their primetime.

Who cares...its a second run and it allows people to watch it later. Its not like there is something better that would be less redundant if it aired.

Its not like there is something better that would be less redundant if it aired.Something better is a tough one to say, but I think any other AS shows would generally be considered better, and anything but the episodes just aired would be less redundant.

Sleep is better....
And of course it's redundant...the point isn't for you to watch six hours of television in one sitting...
